April Fools and I am reading........
Some kid at school ripped off a sequence from American Gods (which I haven't read, but it was a bit about a scheme involving a violin?) to write his writer's craft short story. He got an 100% on it and the teacher reads the story aloud to the class every year and credits the boy who wrote it as being some kind of genius or something. I'm sure there's a kid in every year who's known the story was plaigiarised, but no one really wants to say anything... I mean, how do you bring that up? This teacher's a little off, she'd probably cry about it, and then refuse to believe it was true, and later give us a Serious Talk about not accusing people of plaigiarism. Then she'd give us a timed writing assignment that begins with the phrase "'Get out of my apartment, you filthy whore!' said the man in the blue suit, with an erotic flourish..." God, that woman is weird.
Hahaha
Anyway, I finished the Phineas Poe trilogy a while ago. Baer is kinda great, no wonder everyone drools over him.
I started Misery yesterday, and so far I like it. I'm only about 30 pages in, but I think I'll be nicely creeped out by the end.
Um, I don't drool over Baer.

Why not? I saw his picture. He's very droolable.
The Peculiar Memories of Thomas Penman- Bruce Robinson
Nice - I've never seen this book mentioned around these parts before (except by Vendetta, but I recommended she read it). I think it's brilliant - in a similarly descriptive/melancholic/hilarious way that Withnail and I was.
I've just started some more Wodehouse (Blandings Castle). Love that fucker.
.
where the fuck is nicky, anyway. havent seen 'er around in a while. just thinking about that the other day..

speaking of gaywayds and what we're reading this april. I got a book called "Writing below the belt" like 2 years ago figuring it might give me some insight on writing sex scene stuff without getting too porno about it. anyways, I never bothered to read any of it till a couple days ago. Turns out it's all about GAY writers writing only GAY stuff! Whatta gyp!
dude. phil is sooo jealous..

then
IT'S APRIL: WEEK TWO
and on.
i'm just being lazy and grouchy, but when threads get to the second and third and on page, everytime you post youre kicked back to the beginning and.. i dont know, just a thought

Im easy. If thats what the general consensus wants then no problemo. I can start a new thread every Sunday night before bed. Let me know what you decide, as long as people ar happy with me starting these threads?
i'm reading How the Light Gets In by M. J. Hyland. i needed a book for a trip real quick on saturday so i picked one by the cover... its pretty good so far. about this awkward girl who goes to chicago as a forgin excange student from australia.....
i'm a terrible person, in more ways than one.
i'm mostly just venting and am not really serious about it. no real reason to make it at all more complicated. a dumb suggestion on my part.

No problem. If the site gets busier after Snuff comes out then we should think about it again. This is the longest Monthly book thread in a longtime with all the banter going on.
I've always been a staunch supporter of bumping the previous years monthly thread instead of making new ones each year.
But since we can't search for old threads now and since it would be multiple pages in those threads i don't think the idea is so hot anymore.
I kinda like having the job of opening the monthly threads. I know when I was drinking during the Xmas I even thought at one stage was someone else going to do it. If you want me to stop just say so.
no big deal to me. although i think I'm gonna start a What are you reading this October thread tomorrow just to beat ya to the punch.

You shouldnt have told me that and it would have been even funnier.

I just finished the Gunslinger last night(again thanks derek) and so far today i got my self about 180 pages into The Drawing of the Three...Very very good read so far (i dont know how i feel about Odetta yet though)...im excited to all hell and back to read the whole series now.
Im going to read Boy A by Jonathon Trigell next.
Finished the Drawing of the Three, I am going to start the Wastelands around noon today
Im reading Travels by Michael Crichton.
Finished the Wastelands, About half way through wizard and glass
Im starting The Reapers by John Connolly.

Im off to bed with Wait Until Spring Bandini by John Fante, so far so good, I love his style.
