April 2011 and I am reading...
Finishing up Four Past Midnight by Stephen King. Next I'll start Rose Madder also by Stephen King.
My cat loves King.
Nice! I used to recommend that book out a lot to my friends. None of them read it though. I thought it was pretty awesome.
I'm halfway through Sharp Objects by Gillain Flynn. This ones pretty good, but not as good as Dark Places - which I read last week.
Room by Emma Donoghue.
The Samaritan by Frend Venturini (it's fuckin' good! can't put it down).
The Postman Always Rings Twice by James Cain (enjoying this one too -should be finished within the week -it's not even 200 pages and it's a fast read).
The Orange Eats Creeps (Different. Started out good, got lost for a minute, but now it's enjoyable again -I don't know about this one yet and it's the most challenging to read by far).
Person by Sam Pink (just received in the mail/just started).
There's a couple of others but these are the immediate ones on my desk right now.

It's sitting in my closet and I can't bring myself to read it. I'm afraid it's gonna depress the hell out of me.
I've just started Pride And Prejudice And Zombie's and finished Post Office by Charles Bukowski this morning.
After my daughter was born, I'd considered buying a shotgun too ward off potential suitors fourteen or so years up the road. Now, as i listened to these girls babble and imagined Gabby one day talking with the same banality and ignorance of the English language, i thought of buying the same shotgun to blow my own fucking head off.
What's the verdict on those?

Some of the stuff in the book is crazy.
We basically loan a country money, but only if they use our contractors for the development. So we loan them the money knowing it will come right back to us two fold.
And then there are stipulations. If they become late or miss a payment, we have the right to put a military base on their soil. And we approve the loans knowing that they can't come up with the funds. So it's our way of controlling a country without them realizing it.
The Gun Seller (Hugh Laurie)

Heart Shaped Box by Joe Hill, who is Stephen King's son. Been avoiding it for ages because of all the over-hype I heard when it first came out but a few years later I finally decided to give him a chance.
150 pages in and so far... it's not terrible. Could still go either way. I'll finish it now I've read this much.

Latest update - What The Eyes Behold by Mike Frounfelter.

I liked Heart Shaped Box. His book of short stories called 20th Century Ghosts was very good while his most recent, Horns was muck. I'm going to wait for his next offering before deciding what he's like but so far I'm a bit underwhelmed.

Well Post Office by Charles Bukowski was brilliant, I'm really looking forward to reading more of his work!
PAPAZ is good so far I'm only about 30 pages in, I'm really liking the way it's staying true to the original book, the Zombie's fit in so well!

“...There are so many ways of being despicable it quite makes one's head spin. But the way to be really despicable is to be contemptuous of other people's pain. You ought to have some apprehension that the man you see before you was once even younger than you are now and arrived at his present wretchedness by imperceptible degrees.”

Interesting choice. I found it interesting, if riddled with cliches.

I read Giovanni's Room in college -my professor assigned it to us -and I liked it very much. Gave it to my mom for Christmas that year.

YES!! LOVE THIS BOOK!!
I read it at least once a year. Eugenides is brilliant.
Couldn't agree more. This book is brilliant.

I know you two love this book. You never stop talking about it. It better be as good as you say it is.

Oh, it is.
It really, really is.
Finished American Psycho, which I loved.
Deciding what to read next, thinking I am Legend, am quite feeling a quick read.
You look like the type of guy / gal, who would like:
I'm reading a fantasy novel, and it's the first I've read since high school.
Game of Thrones - George R.R. Martin
My grandfather said I should read it, and was so insistent he sent me the series. I tried reading it a few months ago, but I couldn't get into the language. I picked it up again a few days ago and have abandoned all hope of a social life now. It's amazing.
They're apparently also turning it into a TV series on HBO.
You know in all the years I've been here I've never been sigged?

An amazing TV series. They just released the first preview. It premieres in 2 weeks.
I'm squeezing in some time here and there to continue reading Naked by David Sedaris.
I'm halfway through Never Let Me Go by Ishiguro. I haven't touched it in a few weeks and I'm gonna start re-reading Guards Guards by Pratchett.
I just started Satan Burger by Carlton Mellick.
"If I were to kiss you here they'd call it an act of terrorism--so let's take our pistols to bed & wake up the city at midnight like drunken bandits celebrating with a fullisade"
Back to The Dead Women of Juarez for me. I like it.
I hate this guy's writing, and most of the other prominent Bizarro authors. Just couldn't get into it. It's all vulgar shock for the sake of shock shit. And, maybe I'd be able to deal with it if there was some style there, but the writing's just poor.
Agreed, when I posted this i was 3 pages in and figured I would give it a chance, after page 42 I put it down, it may get better but I wont ever find out. You were right, the style sucks, it's funny at times but it doesnt make up for it.

The Snows of Kilimanjaro by Ernest Hemingway.
"Someone must have slandered Josef K., for one morning, without having done anything truly wrong, he was arrested."
"Jemand musste Josef K. verleumdet haben, denn ohne dass er etwas Böses getan hätte, wurde er eines Morgens verhaftet"
I hated this book. It put me off the majority of Bizzaro fiction since he is kind of renowned as one of the best.

Good on you.

After Dark by Haruki Murakami. A book that remind me of someone special.
That was my first Murakami and I loved it.
That was my first Murakami and I loved it.
I'm reading it in honour of my favourite girl!
I have a few of his books but never got around to them before. It was either this or Norwegian Wood.
Harry Potter and The Prisoner of Askaban. Enjoying them, can see the fun that surrounds them.

The Virgin Suicides by Jeffrey Eugenides. It's completely amazing.
"A celibate clergy is an especially good idea, because it tends to suppress any hereditary propensity toward fanaticism." -Carl Sagan
"Am I cruel? Probably. Is she an idiot? Yes." -jane s.
QFT
That!
After Dark by Haruki Murikami is amazing. It got mediocre reviews in Amazon which confirms I shouldn't pay attention to Amazon.
Yipee! Go for Norwegian Wood, they're releasing the film this year I think.
Currently reading Joseph Andrews by Henry Fielding for college.
Just saw Norwegian Wood the other week, it wasn't good, just read the book.
QFT
That!
Should I see the movie when I'm done? I'm leaning toward no.
