Just curious if anybody has taken a look at the novel some dude is releasing chapter by chapter at some website he designed for the purpose of the release (www.fubiggie.com).  My friend put me on to it and its pretty fuckign cool.  The whole concept is to have a community type feel to the novel where readers can post edits , add artwork to the site, etc.  My boy from NYC put me on to it.  Regardless,  its downright hysterical and on point.  Thought this site would appreciate it since you can definitely see Chucks influence on his writing.  He even references Chuck in the Thank Yous for helping him mold his style.  Trust me its bonkers.   Curious what you guys would think.

Good look MixilPlix. Just finished reading it and loved it.  Definitely see Chuck's influence but I do really like the voice the author has captured thus far.  Very unique and effective at conveying a message.  Also like how he gets political at times.  The sex with cartoon characters bits are my favorite. The Legend of Zelda scene has got to be one of the funniest things I ever read.  Gets better with each chapter as well.  Curious though, do you know the writer?  or how did you hear about it?  and do you have any idea where he is gonna take the drug dealer / runner thing?  I want to post on the site but feel kind of weird since I don't know the writer at all.  Anyhow let me know what you think.  Thanks again. Ill check back.

Two first time posters approaching the same topic with flatly positive reccommendation. Could this be a cloaked advertisement? Me thinks so.

There might be a million writers using a million methods to get some attention, but you aren't the first to think of this and certainly not the best.

My thoughts exactly. I'll wait until an established cultie wades in and gives a report.

whatup maddiego and monkeywright?  listen, i know the dude and i like him.  im not familiar with this nor any blog community.  you can hate on me and my lame-ass attempts to get the writer some more shine, but the truth is I've read some Chuck Palahniuk and figured readers of him might truly enjoying this book.  And I  know my friend would appreciate any feedback. I mean thats what this blog spot is designed for, right?  he'll probably be annoyed at me embarassing him like this but ill try to get him to write in himself.  i like the third chapter the best.  first one goes off on a few too many tangents for me but i feel like he finds his voice more in teh second too.  either way, sorry if i wasted any of your time but if this site is really designed for book reviews then it might be worth checking out.

It's not hate. It's just that we get single-post people passing through all the time, convinced that Palahniuk readers will love their (whatever). I will probably give the first chapter a read...the whole project sounds unorthodox, but if the writing holds up, he could be on to something. (I don't know any writers who would seriously open up their works-in-progress to the world - bad idea, if you ask me).

The only thing wrong with this is - trying to get people to critique yours or somebody elses work.  There are rules here.  We don't do that in the book club.  That's what the Writer's Workshop is for.  I'm not going to delete or anything - but that is one of the things that people here are on guard for.

We have a Writer's Workshop that is amazing - the people are super helpful.  But it's a pay option of the site.

hey i appreciate the feedback from you three. i really do.  ill tell him about the writers workship bit.  might interest him.  can he just sign up on the site if he likes (for a fee as you said).  yeah i agree its kind of ballsy to open up your work like that. its funny. it gets soem great feedback and other times people just rip it.  but either way, he just likes the feedback.  i agree its a very unorthodox approach. regardless thanks again. ill encourage him to check out the writers workshop. and if any of you do read it let me know what u think or you can post comments directly to his site. and by the way, i love the king hippo photo. believe it or not i have a mike tysons punch out tattoo myself.

. .

got the inlaws coming into town this morning and don't have enough time to scratch out a clean, thoughful reply. just gotta shoot from the hip for this response:

first:
yeah, if you're reading contemporary fiction and especially writing current fiction, you have to read HoL

it's like a rule, or more. or at least, one that i agree with hehe
yes, this site is all about book recommends and promotion of all lit and authors, and i mean in a hardcore manner

but we do get flustered when we receive a lot of spam, which does happen in flux from time to time:

hard sometimes to tell what is and what is not spam, err, well, often, actually. don't take it as a personal rebuke against yourself and certainly not the merit of your friend's craft:

we do come around, but only after we realize the plug is genuine, as is the case i think here

as for workshops in general, man, they can hurt. what will baer has called "fish in a barrel" and craig clevenger has called "necessary evil", just showing your work takes brass balls and a thick epidermis

i've spent some considerable time in the workshop here and in fact learned to write via chuck's workshop essays on the craft. it seems to me, you get out of a workshop what you are willing to put into it, not so much unlike anything else:

if your friend does make it to the workshop, have 'em hit my PM here and i'll show him around, how to get started and whatnot. the workshop has proven an incredible help to my craft

if your friend has a completed manuscript, link him to the resource page here: lotta contacts there and info on the best ways to format for submissions to houses and addresses to said houses, market info and all around resources for writing.

oh, and mixil, welcome to the cult !!
