i did some research on amy hempel, seeing as that she is one of Chuck's favorite authors, and I came across a website featuring her short story, the harvest. but, im a little confused, does the story end when she tells the sufer boy that she is going to go back in the water, or does it continue with her explaining all the left out details, from the story...

I read the Harvest for the same reasons. Had to say, I can see where Chuck is coming from with the praise and all that
The opening line is particularly cool.

Well the story ends with the ocean bit but then she went back and edited it by adding more rather than taking away. So I guess you could say the part after the main story takes place after. Namely to show how things are always different than they really are and what not, one of the main themes of the story. Also that things can always be worse. Anyways I've started reading her too, taking Chuck's suggestion, but I'm new to writing so a lot of her master craftsmanship flies over my head.
