1984
Just read it for the 3rd time. And I have been very surprised to find out how few people have actually read this book, for being labeled one of the most important books and blah blah blah. I don't really care if you liked it or not, I'm just curious how many of you have read it vs. not.
"I have seen life on this planet, Scully, and that is precisely why I am looking elsewhere"
So where's the poll, then?
only if they pile tons of booze and pills on top of it.
I still remember most of the novelization for Rambo II from when I read it as a teen.
Did you know he originally died in the first book and they just resurrected him for the sequel without bothering to explain why!!
yeah read it but don't remember it and fyi all you youngsters who read alot, you won't remember any of it after like age 25, especially if you keep reading.
Hence me reading it for the third time. In a year in a half.

I've read Animal Farm though - if that means anything.
regardless i don't think our brains can store all those words.
I agree with both of those statements. I have read so many books. And then when somebody asks me what a book is about or how it was when I know that I read it years ago - I can't come up with an answer.

I was kicking around the idea of taking every single book I own and listing it on here somewhere, maybe MySpace, and writing up a little book review of everything I remember about it. sort of like a little virtual library .
Ive read it and cant remember too much about it. Its been a while. I had to study Animal Farm for school and when I bought the movie from a guy sell videos from the back of a van I was shocked about the adaptation.
I read it a few times and I think about it often
it's referenced so much in our culture
the whole concept of Big Brother watching you
and newspeak like double plus ungood
and thought crime / thought police
and -WAR IS PEACE -FREEDOM IS SLAVERY -IGNORANCE IS STRENGTH
and perpetual war
more later
stop typing stuff in that color blue! It's making my eyes bleed!
it's bad enough when everyone does it when ever they mention House of Leaves.
sorry I was trying to make the post more legible not less
read it, loved it. didnt like the movie as much though.
and that one christian bale movie always reminds me of it. the one where he does all the gun karate? i can never remember the name of it.
It's excellent.
I constantly refer to it, but no one gets the references. No one ever understands my references.
i like the blue prensa.
That shade is fine. she had a darker shade before though and against this background it was making me dizzy just looking at it.

i've always wondered about that
I bought it, but haven’t read it yet, but it’s in my next top five. Once I start craving Fiction again (Or possible realities?).

I created a spreadsheet of all the books I own and all the books that I've read, at least remember reading. I didn't write reviews for hardly any though, some on amazon, but barely enough to even be called a minority.
I read Sole Survivor by Dean Koontz way back in the day, then went to a thrift fair and bought the book again thinking it was a new book. I got to ~page 25 and realized I had already read it, I didn't remember what happened, but figured it would come back as I read so said fuck it. I think you remember a lot more about books you read than you think you do. I'm horrible at describing what happened in a book/movie, but if you ask specific questions, I'll remember fairly detailed things.
Think for yourself. Question Authority.
Koontz is like that. I can't tell you how many times I've done that with a Koontz novel. They aren't very memorable, though I love his older books (Whispers, etc.).
1984 is a fantastic book that I suggest to everyone. It was and still is a pivotal book. Here is a quick synopsis from Wiki:
Nineteen Eighty-Four (or 1984) is an English dystopian novel by George Orwell, written in 1948 and published in 1949. It is the story of the life of the intellectual Winston Smith, his job in the Ministry of Truth, and his degradation by the totalitarian government of Oceania, the country in which he lives. It has been translated into sixty-two languages, and has deeply impressed itself in the English language. Nineteen Eighty-Four, its terms and language, and its author are bywords in discussions of personal privacy and state security. The adjective "Orwellian" describes actions and organizations characteristic of Oceania, the totalitarian society depicted in the novel, and the phrase "Big Brother is watching you" refers to invasive surveillance.
In turn, Nineteen Eighty-Four has been seen as subversive and politically dangerous and thus been banned by libraries in many countries.[1] Along with Brave New World, by Aldous Huxley, and Fahrenheit 451, by Ray Bradbury, it is among the most famous dystopias in literature.[2] In 2005, TIME Magazine selected it as one of the 100 best English-language novels from 1923 to that time.[3]

Oh, I love this book and whole Orwell`s creativity.I have read "1984" twice.Just great.....
I read it last year, my english teacher told me to, I thought it was pretty good, I like Animal Farm better though.
The most likely dystopian cultural consequence predicted in 1984 to actually come true, in my opinion, is the Newspeak thing. The only difference is it's not governmentally mandated.
A conversation overheard:
Gangsta 1: You know. I be poppin's that shit for hella long.
Gangsta 2: Hella?
Gangsta 1: Hella!
I just saw Idiocracy for the first time yesterday. The melding of inner city sang, hillbilly, and vato is coming.
There is a new book out by Ben Elton called Blind Faith, its been thrown around as a 1984 for the myspace generation. I will be reading it soon and I can let ye know if its worth talking about.
