Your Perspective On This
i feel pretty flat/lacking enthusiasm a fair bit
well, my enthusiasm is more over the place
im not sure wether i am 'clinically depressed' or not-
or if my state of mind- mood swings are just normal things.
id really like to avoid seeing a doctor whos
only going to shove me onto anti-depressants...
um, does someone know of an online-medical-journal
style data-base where i can find out if im over-reacting?

Translation = NOT US.
watch your favorite movie. play in the rain. do something you havnt done in years. or something incredibly spontaneous and outside of your normal behavior. Go crazy.
It might be one of those tedious life things. Like where you get sick of the balanity and sameness of everyday life. I'd say go to one of those Depression help sites and see if the symptoms match yours, but like Fake Plstic said, a good friend is always the best way, let it ALL out to them and you'll feel better, guaranteed. Good luck.

thanks for the humourous responses- but im kind of serious.
im asking people who:
a- are on anti-depressants- why they needed them, or why theyre on them
b- people who chose not to, and have alternative ways of getting by
c- people, who can help me figure out if im depressed or not at all

I chose not to back when i was deppressed. Seriously, a long talk with a friend really really helps. Ad i mean a friend, someone who will really listen. preferably a girl. they listen better than guys.
check yo punk ass inbox
apart from that I recomend copious, copious amounts of maple shakes
Just talk to your Best Friend. I've never been on anti-depressants but I've been depressed plenty. I guess it just takes a while tog et through, but don't become a drugged-up-prozac-addicted idiot. Maybe you could try the art approach, poetry and painting and all that, I hear it works for a lot of people. You feel like shit you paint something or write a poem, put yourself into it, alleviate some of the inactivity.
Do you feel alone or bored or just tired of everyday life or what? Give me a little more specific idea on it if you can, PM me if you want. But i've been throught he heavy depression shit and I know you can get through without the medication.
cheers to those people who have given a serious response. loki, rocking.
id just like a clarify, im not suicidal, just over-smart and unchallenged.

a- yes, wellbutrin. Its good stuff, kicks in fast and doesn't affect your sex drive. I take it when b- is no longer doing the trick. See below. I usually take it for a couple of months a year.
b- I take massive amounts of vitamin b and excercise every day until I get an endorphin rush. That usually keeps the blues or depression or whatever at bay.
c- I think its worth checking out at a clinic. Yes, anti-depressants are over prescribed but if you are depressed you need to address it. You may just need to talk to someone thats trained to help people or you may need to be dosed. No shame in it.
d- if all you need is a pep talk, catch me on MSN or Aim
thanks v. much, mirkah, will do (if you ever get on MSN/AIM that is
)

(I didn't bother to check this before-hand, so I'm gonna assume that the NFP Org that put it up didn't give up on depressed kids and take it down since I last saw a commercial.
Yeah, you're really better off talking to someone you know and can trust about it, tel them just how you're feeling and reacting to things and see if they can tell you if you're depressed or not.
I'm usually on ICQ, AIM and MSN if you want to talk. I've talked to quite a few people now to help them work out whether they're depressed and whether they should seek professional help for it or just change their lifestyle to help. BUt you might feel more comfortable talking to someone you know better.

I got over depression by falling in like with a guy who was just as fucked up as me originally, until we're at the point where we've fixed each other up a bit and helped each other get back on the right path. Oh so cheesy, but hey, it worked for me.

The people at my school, not the kids, the people that work there think I suffer from acute depression due to long term mental trauma. They may be right. I didn't recieve any treatment for this trauma at all, no pills, no shrink-rap. I feel fine but maybe it's denial.

im not sure.
someone i know or trust, is quite likely to palm me off
and call it normal behaviour
i think maybe someone impartial
/unbiased might be able to identify it quicker.
maybe?

Now that's constructive advice.
There is hope, but not for us.
Very true. Sometimes it's good to hear advice from people who won't base it on your past emotions and experiences because this could be something totally new and unrelated to anything that's happened to you before. But I've only been a member of this thing for about half a day and I think it's fair to say that we aren't the best people to ask for advice along these lines.

Okay, what I'm getting at is, you could be depressed, you might not be depressed, you can't really tell, someone else has to tell you. You can't think to yourself then start calling yourself depressed. People that do that want sympathy, they want to be depressed.
Axel, I say it's better to ask people you know IRL if they think you are depressed, they would know a lot better, depression is not in just the way you act, it's the way you move, the way you look. We can't really help because this is the internet and everything's just words, it's not even spoken.

Maybe you're bi-polar, especially if your moods keep shifting from high to low. I know you said you want to avoid doctors, but to find out for sure what's going on with you, I think you should talk to a mental health professional. Yes, your friends can give you a pep talk, but you should also talk to someone impartial. You may just be in a funk, but maybe something more serious is going on.

I've taken at various times, prozac, pamalor and serzone till I realized that any depression I had was drug/alcohol related. And also that most of my angst was quickly cured by a financial injection. I don't know what your drug use history is but there's a thing called 'post acute withdrawal' that can go on for a year or so. Mood swing au go go.
erg. this is so unsavoury.
