Would you save one family member or ten strangers???

Family member.

Why? Because I'm a self-centered asshole. This applies to most people though, so in a kooky sort of way, I'm part of the 'in' crowd. Hoo ray. I'm so happy I bet you can SMELL it. Sniff your monitor hard enough. You'll see. I promise.

If it was my younger sister I would kill 10 people if it meant her suffering the worst death in history. Oh, how I loathe her.

1 family member.

The fact that this person stays alive means your DNA has more chance to spread.

10 strangers.

I don't have to occasionally spend weekends at the relatives of dead strangers' houses. Besides, the chances that any of their lives are more worthy of continuing than my relative's is less than 1 in 10 in my book.

Easily one family member. More than 10 strangers die every single day and it hasn't bothered me once.

Depends on which relative... and if the 10 strangers are children, that would influence the decision as well...

Children? Yeah because that doesnt happen in Africa all the time by the thousand-fold. Where are your tears for them? You'd feel better if you could save TEN? Oh, how noble.

If there were two gas chambers, one with my mom and one with 10 people I dont know, and they were both screaming "Save me", I wouldn't even THINK about it and save my mom.

Keep in mind I have a good relationship with my mother, but it still wouldn't make a difference to me.

I'd pick one family member. If you asked those ten strangers the
same question, most of them would probably pick one family member also.

But all your scenarios are faceless. How about this:

You're held hostage with 5 kids, 5 old ladies that remind you of your grandmother, and your mother. The criminal spilts the 10 people and your mom apart. He hands you a gun and tells you to shoot either all 10 or just your mother.

So are you going to just keep changing the details of the question until I answer how you want me to answer?

It's funny how people only mean something to us when we have
a gun pointed at them.

I would find it easier to shoot my mom, not that I hate my mom, but I don't think I would be able to shoot ten people, instead of one. I don't know why. And my mom is 51 (not that that's old), and has accomplished, just about everything she can accoplish. But those 5 children... they're a different story.

As for ten children, yeah, the kids anyday. As for the thousands that die in Africa everyday, I do hold a special place in my heart for them and occasionally cry for them as well. Now, for barebonesness, ten people, over a family member, family member wins out.

1 family member. because, as it has been pointed out above, i already make this decision every day.

Yes, I'm a bit of a hypocrite. I don't do this kinda thing. But I do give food to starving beggars out in the street, I don't take anything for granted.
