Culties Take On Portland
If you could have been watching me, Cincinnati to Seattle to Portland Looked a Lot Like This
Sometimes it Looked Like This Instead
Then I Could Open My Eyes For a Choice Between Nebulous Clouds, a Girl I was Trying Not to Stare At, and The Back of This Guy's Head
Except for Occasional Stunning Moments That Looked More Like That
And Then I Went Out with Noir Kitty
Who Is Brilliant and awesome, btw
And She Bribed Me With Drinks and Amazing Seafood, Followed by a Trip to Powell's Books.
(The Bribing, of course, was completely unnecessary, as she has great stories to tell.)
So, where the hell are you, fellow culties? Get Thee to Portland.

I think i'd be scared to death of flying and would never want a window seat, but flying over the rocky mountains like that I'd have to look out and be just in awe.
Have fun kids!

Heh, Portland's a lot different than Cincinnati. Portland's kind of creepy cause there aren't any black people but a lot of Asians. There's more black people in Canada than Portland. It's also eerily crime free. How boring is that? Beautiful city, but I'm stuck in Ohio
where are you at in cincinnati?

...and what's with the implied racism?

no there just arent black people in oregon. when you see one, you're almost excited.
there is however a truck of mexicans that just seems to drive up and down 101 shouting at girls... i'm pretty sure they never ever stop driving.
i'm a terrible person, in more ways than one.
We're at the hotel in Beaverton, about to grab a bite to eat as soon as Pallix gets her ass out of the shower...

mike, didn't get a chance to say adieu last night, t'was fun.
glad to know the alexi made it there but after doing a bit of google-fu, i'm sad to report that portland doesn't have in-n-out.

...and what's with the implied racism?
i read it as Portland would be less creepy if it had more black people. Which, while odd, i don't see as very racist.

There's more black people in Canada than Portland. It's also eerily crime free.

At the moment, I'm at a cool bar and grill called Candy's. They have computers all over the bar for internet surfing - I'm definitely not lugging my laptop along today. Apparently, I arrived in Portland just in time for the three weeks a year it doesn't rain... and it's been 95 blistering degrees, but it drops off nicely when you find some shade.
If you're looking for me, this place is at the corner of Couch Street and 9th Avenue, just a couple of blocks from Powell's.
Plans for later include Haunted Pizza.
Cheers,

Atomos (and everyone else): I sent out the contact sheets as the information came to me, so whomever got the sheets last got the most information. I could send out a new contact sheet to everyone, but we're already here in the city, and I have Vig's number, Vig's got your's, I have Nikki's number, and she has Vig's, so I think we're all going to be ok. This is me justify being lazy.
Anyway, the plan for tonight seems to be as follows:
Pizza & Beer at the Haunted Pizza Place at 8 PM. (I think it's on NW 2nd and Burnside or Broadway?) Followed by barhopping in the Voodoo Donuts district.
Alecia and Bethany should both arrive around 10 or so. Hopefully Alecia still gets a car, because I don't know how late the train and the Beaverton buses run.

The Catmother of all Worldwide Cats
im the first one back in from the haunted pizza joint, yes? i skipped out of the midnight pub stumble (which is really easy in oldtown, sometimes you dont need more than one step) because i had some car trouble, and had to catch the last bus out of beaverton. i didnt take my nikon, but there are pictures coming. everyone was super nice, and somewhat different than i expected from their personas here, in a good way, mind you.
heres a rundown. we went to meet mark (puppy) downtown around five. in the middle of the blues festival. good music, but what a clusterfuck crush of people! and then we walked around looking for something to do and talking. everything was closed, yeah? because of the impending holiday. so, we went back toward the pizza place region and read the wall graffiti in there and took pictures whilst trying to reach alex and federov,
best dinner conversation since stephen jones was in town last year, and the food was so much better. i look forward to seeing these guys again tomorrow or sunday, really, and i wish everyone lived closer, this is just too much fun

I'll probably put sleep ahead of pictures with captions right now, but it was a wonderful late afternoon/ early evening meeting Chuck and Michelle, pushing through the heat, talking, hitting a record store and then "haunted" Oldtown Pizza - where the Alexes, Federov and Kitty eventually found us...
and then a great and fiercely weird night thereafter. Barhopping. Pitchers of ale. Literature talk. High drama with some dude who didn't know when to quit hitting on one of us - cause she's English and real purdy. Karaoke (me, and there's footage!) Voodoo donuts with bacon (Federov is a speed-eating black belt).
Oh, and missing the last train. Sardine packing five of us into Mexicretin's already luggage-filled compact car, only to get vastly lost (possibly we crossed into Washington State) in the effort to find my hotel that should have been no more than 10 minutes away.
Thanks for the perseverance guys and gals and on the balance an excellent time.
And good night.

mark, if you guys want to see the fireworks down there, we should get down there before it gets turned into a clusterfuck, if it hasnt already, since the blues festival is going on. in fact, i know what we should do, yeah? theres a bar on like the 50th floor of the bank tower. i bet we could see them damned well from there, dont you think?

That all sounds good to me, Chuck. I'm just about to leave my hotel to convene in Old Town/Chinatown in a little while. Will call you once I'm down there.
VP - Workshop Dog
sounds like we'll need reservations (especially with a group our size) and the menu's a bit pricey, by my broke ass standards, anyway. will post a link below. im willing to make the call to get reservations if this is what we want to do. but the trigger would probably have to be pulled soon.

The place that you are talking about used to be called Atwater's ... I would go and drink and listen to the Leroy Vinegar trio there. I'm not sure if they have a dress code. They did once upon a time and since then I've always gone there dressed to the nines so I wouldn't have noticed.
Have fun and I will see you tomorrow

No, I wasn't implying a correlation, just the noting what I found odd about Portland the few times I stopped by. I also noticed a lot of hippies. It was like Pleasantville with hippies, which kinda creeped me out and kinda made me want to live there.
Pleasantville with hippies
That could be an adequate summation.
P.S. we have a really good mix of ethnicities here, not white washed at all.

Wow, thanks six. If someone wants to photoshop me a new one from the picture I just posted, that would be all kinds of awesome. I'm a word nerd and barely know how to snap and upload when it comes to pictures.
