To those who have seen/read Never Let Me Go
I finished the book a few days ago. I thought the plot line was sort of dull/vague but purposefully so. The underlying themes were thought provoking and I enjoyed the characters.
I thought they each represented something. Ruth- societal norms Tommy- stereotypical football player with a twist Kathy- cerebreal [sp?] deep thinker/quiet chick.
and for the questions raised "Is the whole cloning humans to harvest organs ethical?"
I also think it acurately portrayed a loving relationship dwindling.
The movie however, was out of order of the book and left out a crap ton of insight from the narrator but offered a different perspective.
What did you think?
I thought that Ruth was just a big bitch; she fucked a lot of shit up and did irreversable damage.and I have mixed feelings about the movie.
Man is the cruelest animal.
That's a little fucked up haha. Perfect display of speciesism, but then again almost everything we use is tested on animals.
Man is the cruelest animal.
I always hear about PETA types speaking out against animal testing yet I never hear about PETA types volunteering to have shit tested on them in place of the animals. Like I'm sure if they really wanted to the companies would allow them to so long as they signed a shit ton of waivers.
We can either test this experimental miracle cure that could quite possibly cause instant death on either YOU, or the cute little bunny. Pick one.

I've only seen the movie and I adored it. Had I known it was a book, I would've read it prior to seeing the movie. But, you know, Andrew Garfield and Carrey Mulligan were calling my name, so I gave in.
I also saved *the* song because it's just so perfect.
Yeah I got pretty choked up at the end of the movie, but I'm a sucker for those types of things. Usually I wouldn't suggest reading the book after seeing the movie but I'll make an exception. You'll probably feel different about the story after reading the book.

Testing medications on animals is means to an end. Psych experiments tested on rats is useful. I can see how that makes sense, BUT treating animals in an inhumane fashion so we can eat them, even though our bodies aren't even meant to digest meat, is something that I don't partake in. If anyone sees it differently fine, but it just doesn't make sense to me to sodomize, beat, and fill animals with harmful chemicals for consumption purposes.

I thought it was stupid. They have you reading this future where science is so advanced we're cloning people and harvesting their organs and then the big question being raised is, "Do they have souls?"
This is bullshit, it's a religious question, not scientific and doesn't fit with the future being described. A clone is exactly the same as whatever it's cloned from, end of story. I really hated it.
Whoa! Where did all this sodomizing stuff come from?

What? wow no, this book is not scientific at all! They don't specify anything about how they are cloned, what organs are harvested, or anything like that. "Do they have souls?" is not a religious question either. I hate that the term soul is associated only with religions, it doesn't have to be intertwined with any religious aspect of all. The question just as easily could be "are they 'human'?" Not to mention the whole science being advanced thing isn't really a part of the story. Nothing else is advanced besides medicine, it's not like they have talking walls or where chrome jumpsuits.

Do they have flying cars? Or has even the fantastical future given up on those?
I'd rather have a jetpack.
Man is the cruelest animal.
I think the Idea of jetpacks is a lot more glamourous than the practicality of one. What the heck are you supposed to do with a jetpack after you get where you're going? Just chain it up on old bicycle racks? What about if you get any groceries? Or have to take the miniature pet rhinocerus to the vet?
A flying car is just much more practical for the fantastic future.
A jetpack isn't supposed to practical. I wouldn't use it to run errands, I would use it to just fly around...and...do.......shit.
Man is the cruelest animal.
would use it to just fly around and...shit.
Coming soon! Jackass: The Movie part 14!

Wow. Didn't say the book was scientific, said the future described must be, as they are cloning humans. Didn't say it was sci-fi.
I remember you from before being an uppity dick. Learn to discuss things without being such a snooty cunt from the get go.
Never read the book and don't really care about the morality of it all, but I thought it was a wonderfully acted movie by both Andrew Garfield and Carey Mulligan.

I wasn't being snooty or condescending toward you at all, it's not my fault you're offended over nothing. Get off your period.

Cool your beef flaps. Your post was obnoxious.
Your MOM is obnoxious! Take that!

I tend to agree with 188416. I haven't seen the film, but the book was a rather tedious read, and I feel like those themes have been explored better in other books/films - ie Bladerunner/Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep? for a start. And also the Sonmi sections of Cloud Atlas.
I read the novel a year or two ago and was astounded that this was by the same author of The Remains of the Day and When We Were Orphans. The story was like listening to a sci-fi nerd recounting a long, boring dream. I didn't care for any of the characters or their fate.
Yeah, I've seen the theme many times before, but I didn't find it tedious after the first half.
Man is the cruelest animal.
i wish i actually could shit myself so you'd know how funny i found this. ;D
I wish you'd shit yourself too.
Man is the cruelest animal.
hahahaha

They should start combining DNA with humans and pigs more, to where they can just take organs out of pigs for transplants. Plus with pigmen running around, there'd be a whole new job market opened for them to find truffles.
