These are the RULES you are expected to know them
I don't know. It all kinds of blends together now.
For a while there was this weird problem of quoting people out of context, quoting IM conversations, PMs, stuff from the chat room, etc. I remember Brock Landers got temp banned for putting in his signature that I had said something to the effect of, "I deserve to get fucked with a chocolate dildo because that's what fat girls like."
There is hope, but not for us.
Do they even make chocolate dildos?

Well, I don't know about this site, but I remember when the internet was filled with nerds. That was back when a website was just a page with some words and clip art and if you wanted to talk to a person, the screen was black, the text was green and you stared at that blinking cursor for a minute and a half while your dial up downloaded their response. Everything was pretty much done by universities students under the watchful eyes of their professors, so it was extremely bland.
You guys might find this horribly naive, but I was so unimpressed with the internet that I only used it for email and news for the better part of 14 years, even after the advent of click-able links and computer mice. I had assumed websites and such had stayed pretty much the same as I remembered it being from the early 90's. I'm not too sure what it was like here 7 years ago, but my guess is it was a lot more bland and homogeneous than it is now.
Mom's gonna fix it all soon.
I think it was a lot like it is now. a bunch of crazy characters from all over the world who occasionally got into arguments. the only difference was, back then, there were 7 years less worth of music and movies to talk about.
I think those both started around month five.
This is why we can't have nice things.
only because everyone was newbies back then.
is there anyone left from the 1999-2003 era besides Dennis? Were mirka or Kirk even around back then?
I joined in 04. I just missed the "good ol' days deadline" I guess...
4 more days and I get my 7 year itch!
Well, Jane's an '03'er, isn't she?
I predate Mirka.
This is why we can't have nice things.
there's a bunch of 03ers.
I think Six was one of those Pre3ers, but, well, you know...
Mirka and I both joined in March of '03. Tuffy's the longest-posting member that I know of. We used to have this whole posse of Australians, which was awesome. One of them introduced Kit to the forum.
There is hope, but not for us.
Then why is she an admin and you're not?
Jane and I have both been mods.
And hated.
Goes with the territory.
This is why we can't have nice things.
Yeah, but not admins.
I assume Mirka wants the job of admin for one.
This is why we can't have nice things.
Do you have an idea what it takes to keep a site like this running? I don't think you do or you wouldn't ask why I'm an admin as opposed to someone else that joined at the same time as I did.
I think it's 'cause you're prettier than her.
You're such a flatterer, Rittsie.
This is why we can't have nice things.
I joined in april 2003, and the Cult already had a history.

because Recent Posts shows the most Recently Posted things. the other forums just go by the date by default. I think You can sort through the forums by most recent too though. should be a little box t the bottom to "sort from beginning' to "most recent," at least there used to be, I dunno about now.
just checked and there is no sortbox there anymore. I dunno. mine always list by newest. Maybe there's something in the user control panel to set it up that way. otherwise, you may just be fucked.
It was painful but I was able to get through 3 pages of this 'rules' thread. From what I can gather, there is to be no 'profanity', yet people curse like sailors (myself included)and this appears to be tolerated.
There is a rule about not abusing people, yet I see that people are abusive and this is also tolerated.
I'm curious about this disparity between the 'Official forum rules' and what actually happens in the forums.
I left another writing board and I don't enjoy forums where hostile humor is thought to be hilarious (no, I'm not a prude, far from it). Prior to joining the Writer's Workshop, I'd like to know if the atmosphere in this thread is consistent throughout the forum?
For the record, I've read every Palahniuk book and I adore his brain so even if you all pounce on me in a defensive rage, I'll still salivate over Chuck's books.

You're not supposed to curse in the shout box or in thread titles, but cursing within the threads of the forum is fine.
The Writers' Workshop is nothing like the general forum. That is to say, it's a professional environment in which we're all operating under the premise that we're here to work and become better writers. Let me know if you have any other specific questions.
Thank you
Sounds reasonable to me. I look forward to joining the writing workshop.

Goes with the territory.
I don't think I was hated when I was a mod, but there were around 4 GD mods at that time, so I guess someone else probably copped all the anger
Everybody here loves me whether they want to or not.

I think it's one of the rules.

Mng! Mmmph mbub mrph! Ng-Mmmmmb!
This is why we can't have nice things.
Aww, I love you too.

Who hates me?

:(
Me...just a little though
I'm too scared of you to hate you.
Please don't hit me
Mom's gonna fix it all soon.
:(
Me...just a little though :P
You're itching for a bitching lady!
Please don't hit me
As long as you maintain that level of fear you should be good.
jk
Don't fear me!
Of the previous pages, I've read lots. Been lurking around the site since 2003. I stand by the following statement:
Integrity has no need of rules.
-Albert Camus
That's all well and good as long as people are integrous.
That's sounds a lot like rape-talk Frank.

That's my point Mr. Parker
Which is why I support the rules.
"Flames and insults do not constitute harassment."
YET
"Starting threads to harass, insult or intimidate another member will result in an automatic two week ban."
Someone should fix that.
I think it's more of the harassment angle they're going for. If someone says something stupid you can call them an idiot, but you can't go around to every thread they post in or start up a thread specifically to call them an idiot.
Well if it's such a problem then get rid of them, get someone to ban them if you want. You'd eventually end up banning yourself, I'd think, because EVERYONE has said or done something stupid, somewhere on the internet.
It's more like not starting a thread entitled "why so and so sucks big ones" or whatever and not so much arguing within the thread. Same reason they try not to cuss in the shout box, same reason they can hide a cock and balls temporary tattoo inside a cereal box but they can't print "Cock and Balls Crunch" on the label*. It's the mentality that you have to dig a little for your filth, same reason why they don't just put big pictures of vajayjays on the nudie mags behind the counter, or if they do they cover them with plastic for the old ladies and 6 year olds.
Anyway, did you just join to question the boring ass rules that no one reads? Probably not. They're vague for a reason. Just sayin. Welcome to The Cult.
*not a real thing
Gotta love it when new people start arguing about the rules the day they join.
Mom's gonna fix it all soon.
You're assuming she's new.
This is why we can't have nice things.
What better time is there to do it?
If I just joined up I'd want to get that all straightened out right off the bat.
YET
"Starting threads to harass, insult or intimidate another member will result in an automatic two week ban."

These are clearly two separate things. You are allowed to call someone a douchebag if you find them to be a douchebag. You are not allowed to create a thread for the sole purpose of expressing what a douchebag such-and-such may be.
This is why we can't have nice things.

We?
I stole them, word-for-word, from Fark.com!
