The New Art Thread
Those Water colors are great. I think you may have some talent there Fano
Whatever Whore!

More of Xia's stuff. I have nto been able to draw a damn thing for weeks now.
Love it!
Thank you Pete and Winnie.
I picture Fano sitting in the garden in Paris with his watercolors all spread out before him, wearing a beret.
You need to grow a thin mustache you can twirl arrogantly now.
This is why we can't have nice things.

I stand in my kitchen. I wish I had a nice garden with a place to spread my stuff out! And I cannot, for the life of me, grow a moustache good enough for twirling arrogantly.
Keep dreaming of me in that way, though. Perhaps in another reality.

You're supposed to go outside and paint. Quality d' Light and blahblahblah. Take your crap to the park and rush to get it done before the sun sets.
Also:
Print, Cut-Out, Apply with Adhesive.
You gotta think these things out, man.
This is why we can't have nice things.
yeah, theres a whole forum for that...

Arc de Triomphe seen from the Jardin des Tuilleries.
I would seriously love to have this one in my house.
Are you going to be selling any of these, Chris?
Uhhhh... holy shit that's like the most awesome thing I've ever heard, Alecia.

I hadn't thought about it much honestly, because I need to keep working on my skills to get better, but I think selling them would probably help me pay for my living expenses and stuff, so yeah, I probably could do that.

I'm thinking my portrait of Nightrious belongs here.
This is why we can't have nice things.
Or, in the Culties as Art.
Nightrious IS art; I have no control over that.
This is why we can't have nice things.
Clearly it belongs here then. As this is the ART place.
I think I am going to try my hand at some watercolor tomorrow. Been meaning to for a while, but never had a go before.

This is really nice.

This is really nice.
THANKS!
Do you paint on thicker paper, Chris, or did you buy canvases?
I love what you did with the trees, with the several shades of brown.
Thanks, Imke, those trees came out way better than I expected. I surprised myself with that. I use watercolor paper, it's thicker so that the water doesn't leak through.
Though, I need to start keeping the edges held down with something, because the water curls the paper.
yeah, you're supposed to prepare watercolor paper before painting by completely soaking it, then taping it flat to a board and letting it dry. I never have the patience to wait for that. I think there is a way you can get the paper to uncurl by spraying the back of your finished painting with water (like from a spray bottle) and then flattening it under heavy boards/books until dry
Yeah, that's what I've read, but I don't ahve the patience for that either. I bought clamps, so what I'm gonna do is clamp it to a wooden board if I can, like a cutting board or something, and then just moisten it with a sponge and a spray bottle.
yeah, that should work. the thicker your paper is to begin with, the less you have to actually totally soak it. depends how much water you use when you paint, too
Fano inspired me to get out the watercolors I've had sitting around forever and mess with them finally.
Very different from acrylics or oils!
It is going to take much more messing around than I initially thought to get them to do anything I want them to do, and I have more respect for his natural talent with the medium now! (Kit's too!)
we're all learning together - post your stuff!
So, it is a boat sailing on a rainbow tsunami sea.
I should probably dedicate it to Sarah or something, so she can sail out of her magic lands and come visit all of us.
I was mostly just playing with the colors and seeing how the texture worked. I did stretch the paper first, but I was impatient and didn't let it dry all the way before I started painting and when it dried it curled and crinkled up a bunch too.
Fano, your watercolors get better with each you do. Youve inspired me too. I have some, I've just never tried them before. I may give it a go. Pepper, I think that is great for your first go at it
Whatever Whore!
If I end up disappearing for a while it is because I sailed off to watercolor heaven. I all I know.
Watercolors, pah.
I'm gonna learn blacksmithery.
This is why we can't have nice things.
Now there's a hobby!
I'd like to weld.
FIRE!!
my husband is always threatening to teach me how to weld. i think i'll leave the metalwork to him though.
I like the colors you used, pepper. and there's a lot of movement in that piece, which is cool

This is badass. My problem is that I don't necessarily have the vivid imagination to come up with a picture like this. It's really awesome, though!

I love this so much.
Thanks you guys. Those are al probably too nice of things to say.
Chris, I have absolutely ZERO talent for making any sort of art that is realistic. That, takes quite a bit of talent, imho.
here is the one I painted yesterday. I do not care for the boat on the horizon much, wish I had left it out. Learning.

There are a number of things I'm happy about with this painting and a few that I'm not. I've noticed that my biggest failing is managing the painting, as in, step 1, step 2, etc. I end up needing to do things in an order that makes it more difficult.
But overall, I'm happy with how this came out.
nice perspective, chris

Yeah, the perspective in this is great.
Thanks! I leaned out my window and took a picture.
This was today's, and the first I did with actual water color brushes, which made a surprising difference in how the paint moved around. I think I am afraid of the water part of the water coloring, I keep catching myself using as little as possible.
Dogwood Blossom

What the fuck Chris?! You should probably start painting in public where there are a lot of pretty french girls or tourists so you can show off your skills. I'm really impressed with your watercolors. Also you owe me a poem...but I could use a painting

Wow Chris, you're on FIRE! The paintings are getting stronger every time! Inspiring.

Alecia, this is the best I can do for selling at the moment. I don't know what the best way is otherwise.
Jaz, that's a good idea! Haha. And I'll get you that poem!
Hattie, thanks a million!!
I feel like I'm making progress which is why I'm staying motivated. Your support definitely helps, too!
Have you taken any art classes? Seems like you know a lot about suggesting things and negative space and stuff.
No, I haven't had any classes, though I'd like to. I feel like it would be a big help to taking my work up a level. I'm just sort of learning as I go and using reference pictures and stuff.
Fano! I use to have an account with deviant art! I posted pics I would take of flowers and I also had some photo manipulations on there. It was a phase I went through. I must say, your pieces are getting stronger with each one that you do!! I am still to have the time to sit down and give it a whirl. You are doing so great with these, especially for not having any classes!! I think you have a true, natural talent for this and also a good eye. I like your perspectives and am quite jealous of that part. Perspective has always been a really hard aspect of art for me. I can see it in my head, but cannot transfer that onto canvas or paper. I think you do a good job at that!! Anyhow, keep'em coming, because I'm enjoying seeing your pieces.
Pepper, I really like your flower. The color is beautiful! I am thinking you have a knack for the watercolors too. It sure does seem so.
There are so many talented people on this forum! You guys inspire me!! Now if I can just get some time to create
Whatever Whore!
I just realized you look like Steve-O.
Si vis pacem, para bellum

First ordinary painting without a reference picture. Really proud of it.

Lookit this kid. He decides he's going to paint watercolors, and then kicks ass at it.
