The New Art Thread

I don't think I ever posted these here before, I do have them on facebook, but I don't assume too many of you make a habit of lurking my facebook art folder, some drawings I did earlier this year;

This was supposed to be a woman when i began it, but most of my people take on a life of their own before I finish them(I wish there were more depth in the eye area)

This is older

These two go together (also way old) my sister and I were sitting on my porch in about 100 degree heat drawing the same half destroyed tulip from different angles, I finished first so then I drew her drawing the flower, then I wrote a poem about the flower (but i am not going to post that). I need to dig up her version of the flower and post it but it is at home. (I need to go take pictures of my sisters artwork and post that is what I need to do, she is amazing)

So i guess those are all old, not new. But I don't think i ever posted them before.

Those are great Pepper! I especially like the one that was going to be a woman. I actually the eyes.

Here's a lady in a boat on a mostly cloudy day with one normal bird and one legless bird flying overhead. There is also a red herring.

looking at pictures of dodos is an emotionally confusing experience.
They look so comical, but it makes me sad to think that they're extinct.

No, I am jealous of yuor skills to. I draw cartoon shit, and doodles. I would never call it art. Your stuff takes skill and taste. WEll done.

Thanks kit, that means a lot. These murals have been a lil frustrating and I'm not entirely pleased with them, but hearing people's reaction to it has made it worth the sweat and craziness.

It would be awesome to hang out and art with you.I'm sure you would have an awesome playlist for us to listen to while painting. I always try to hang out with my artist friends to have some art sessions but they never end up working out. I've only had a few successful art sessions.One of them was when I drew up my suckerpunch stencil.

I just silver leafed it a few months ago. As soon as I get it framed I'll post pictures but here's the stencil again because I have an obsession with my face haha.

Oh man, I get so pissed off when drawing, I over think everything, hate everything I draw, get mad, and consider throwing away my sketchbooks atleast three times a week. I only post shit here because its all fun and games. Plus Xia is all sorts of a razy good artist and its intimidating as all hell.

You have a unique style though. You should try painting what you draw. I think it could have a cool outcome depending on the style of painting. But I feel your pain. I learned not to throw my sketches away. Aside from being interesting looking at my progress it's also cool to see old work that you hated through fresh eyes.

Being up close and personal with something you always end up seeing/knowing the flaws and it's hard not to focus on those until you take a few steps back.

When I'm painting the moment I stop for a break I make sure I move the painting and look at it from a different point in the room or I lay down and my favorite is facing it in the mirror to get a completely different perspective. Photographing your work sometimes helps but not always.

I am not very good when it comes to colors. I should practice I just get intimidated. One thing I do is force myself to find and pick out flaws in comics and cartoons. Makes me realize that unless you are looking you dont notice them half the time.

That dodo is seriously some of the best artwork I've ever seen. I can't believe you just popped it out that fast! Have you always been so talented? That is really amazing. You should commission your work (if you haven't already).

What medium(s) did you use for the Dodo, Kit?

Dodo is just watercolor and felt-tip pen (I use Microns)

Thanks everyone. I've never taken commissions or anything before. I was working on a portrait piece for a magazine project a friend was designing but the story it was for fell through, so it didn't end up happening. It's a whole lot of added pressure but I guess if I really want to do anything with this stuff I should consider it.

Sometimes I find it's a good idea to make a copy (or a few copies) of the line drawing and lay down some color on that, just to get a feel for it. That way you're not ruining your drawing.

I think part of making art is never truly being pleased with what you've done (even if its so deep down that you don't even really know about it).. that's what drives us to keep drawing/painting/creating.

I need Kit-art hanging on the empty walls in our apartment.

My girlfriend says she made more from her paintings than from her day job.
