The New Art Thread
Yes.
thanks guys.. I like that self-portrait, pepper, i always find that charcoal/pastels difficult to work with, but i'm a little nuts about smudging and things like that.
i might take up the pepper challenge, i should have some free time this weekend
apologies if any of these are reposts.. just some things from the last few months, getting my hand back in. most are pencil or pen except for the first which is acrylic paint.. not usually my thing but a friend asked me if i would have a go at doing some simple line portraits in paint for a t-shirt line he's doing

the coloured pencil (is it?) side profile one is so well done!
yeah, that's coloured pencil.. was just messing around with colours. i still haven't finished her ear! haha
I can say two words: it's wonderful!

Need more practice, but I'm proud of myself for having completed it.
Oil pastels. Turtle. Of the sea swimming variety.
That is really good Chris. And with oil pastels? Nice. Those are rather tricky.
I like that it is sort of abstract, it gives it character it wouldn't have if it was too realistic.
Arms and legs? I guess, yeah. Or flippers, or something. Those started as the easiest part, and then became the hardest. It was quite the experimental process, to be sure.
Thank you, Pepper!!
I prefer chalk pastels, but I can't find mine, and I didn't want to keep putting it off and making excuses. I'm happy with how it came out. I was trying to get a lot of detail, but then I realized I liked it with the blending.
Yeah, that looks awesome chris. If I had my old under the sea themed room I definitely would have asked for that drawing and displayed it.
aw thanks!!
That looks great!
Sank you sank you!!
:)

Chalk pastel owl. Not as good as I wanted it, but that will come with time and practice.

That owl is fiend upon.

I thought the nose would be the hardest part, but that actually came out the best I think. Gotta work on eyes.
Felt like trying something new. The drawings are a bit rough but I'm definitely going to use this technique for a more fine tuned drawing one of these days.

What did you use? I wanna say potatoes but it's ridiculous.
HOLY SHIT JAZ!! I LOVE THOSE!!!
Let it be potatoes.
Thanks Chris and I used oil pastels and charcoal.
The first one fascinates me because of the (use of the) colors.
Cool effect, Jaz. I'd like to see one where you fill the whole paper with colour!
I saw the Damien Hirst exhibition at the Tate Modern on Saturday. Thank god we got in for free because it was shit.
Here's another I did today. I have to figure out a different tool to use to do the drawing that's more comfortable to hold.

Ahh, love it!

Holy shit that's AWESOME!!

This reminds me of a Romanian poem, where a girl falls in love with the Morning Star, and about halfway through the poem (98 stanzas), they have a hard time deciding who should sacrifice their life as they knew it for the other. Eventually, after the Morning Star (or Lucifer) offers her immortality, she declines, unable to leave her life on Earth, and falls for a simple boy. The poem ends with "But he falls not as he did once / From his height into swells: / -"What matters thee, clod of dust, if / 'Tis me or someone else? // "You live in your sphere's narrowness / And luck rules over you- / But in my steady world I feel / Eternal, cold and true!"*. I have no idea why your piece reminded me of this, but it did and I love it.
*Not my translation

Attempted a self-portrait. I added color to it, but I should have left it black and white.
Thanks you guys. Irina what is the name of that poem?
Good job Chris! I like how you got the shading by your brow and the cleft of your chin.
The Morning Star or Lucifer, depends on the translation. Here's one version, it doesn't sound nearly as good as in Romanian, but that's poetry for you.

I'll have to get back to reading it tomorrow but so far it's an interesting poem. I can imagine it sounding much better in Romanian though.
These are all inspired by my coworkers,

I like it Bro and of course I always enjoy Noah's character drawings. You're a mash up of Ralph Steadman and Matt Groening.

Congrats, Noah!
Yay, congratulations!
Awesome drawing as well.
Congratulations Noah. That is great news.
Also, Noah, I think we forgot to tell you (and I just remembered), but back when I first made this thread is was because Jazzy and I were conspiring to try to get you to put on lipstick and make lipstick art.
It has been like a year or so now or something, so I guess the time for subtlety has passed.

Oops. That is from when I first joined the cult though.
But I didn't realise I do that, covering my face thing. I guess I do somewhat.
