television
No one is calling for the end of television here, Tuffy. It's just a discussion on why television sucks/doesn't suck. In fact, you're right.. for the most part movies and books are the same, however, television is, in my opinion, the worst of the bunch... right down there with most radio stations... as movies have an actual chance to not be about selling commercials... and I'm not talking about commercial mainstream films that have product placement, but there is some real cinema out there that actually says things worth hearing... not just mindless fun... and mindless fun has it's place too, but books are much better than television too as you and i both know you can pretty much say whatever you want in a book and don't need to worry about selling commercial time for coca-cola...
As far as your first statement about people getting what they deserve... do you REALLY believe that your life/perception/reality has NOT been altered by television... ?
All of us living in the world today are effected whether directly or indirectly... it's just a part of life in a society that feeds off of it...
The mind is the limit. I am going to be the best personal trainer to ever exist on this earth. I am going to inspire, motivate, and change lives. I have that power. There is not a doubt in my mind that I can make you have an orgasm just from the power of my mind via the internet. I'm a giver like that. I can heal you. I can make you whole. That's Brock. That's what I do. Moving on...
I get what you're saying, I'd just like to say that while some of us can "filter".... through the use of critical thinking... we are ALL of us effected by the things we perceive, even indirectly. What I simply mean is that for everyone of us "critical thinkers", there are plenty more buffoons out there... and the actions the buffoons take effect even the critical thinkers. So regardless of our ability to "filter" i.e. use our brains, we still are hit by the ills caused by television... which effects the economy, the marketplace, world politics, education, laws, social constraints, taboo, war, etc... so basically, even us with the ability to choose wisely are just as fucked as those without a brain in their heads when it comes to the effects of television as a whole...
... in essence... we get what they deserve...
Sure we can do certain things to sidestep avoidable pitfalls, but the very existence of television changes everything for everyone... hence its necessary abolishment... if I really cared either way... which I don't... and just arguing for the sake of arguing and possibly stimulating thought... if only my own...
