I'm not sayin' that I'm organizing this, but we've got people on this Forum in third world countries and stuff and they would probably like to see a package some time before late-March, so let's get going at least on the whole perseveration thing of "I might do it but I might not, so um... maybe, possibly I'd kinda like to but I'm scared" thing now and get it out of the way.
Who would like to be in?
This is why we can't have nice things.
I be in on this!!
Whatever Whore!
Possibly in, have to think on it. I kind of enjoyed just sending stuff to whoever I wanted last year.
This needs pinned.
If I get financial support from college I'll be in, too.
Oh go on.
Are you in, Hattfield, or no?
I don't understand your britticisms.
This is why we can't have nice things.
Living in a third-world country is tough.
"Third World Country" = "anywhere not in the contiguous 48 states".
This is why we can't have nice things.
Well, I'm loving this Second World Country, with it's socialism and love and stuff.
Art thou in, O Fanutto, or no?
This is why we can't have nice things.
Nay, good sir. Haven't the monies for international sending, plus I already have to do that for some people this Christmas.
Your scoundrelcy is thus noted.
This is why we can't have nice things.
I don't understand your britticisms.
It meant a grudging yes.
Grudging? GRUDGING???
The volume of grinchery in this thread is simply appalling and I will not stand for it!
Will! Not! Stand!
This is why we can't have nice things.
Well boo.
I'm in I suppose. But I can't send internationally.
We don't need such international commitments just yet. This is a place to whine back and forth over the possibility of joining in and for me to cajole everyone away from their natural scrooginess.
This is why we can't have nice things.
I'll be sending postcards to several of you anyway.
Attention: Tuffy is a giant roast christmas goose

Eat Me!
This is why we can't have nice things.
I'm in. Not for the eating part, even though I'm all about food I'm not too sure about the Tuffy Roasted Goose. I imagine it tastes like pills and bourbon with a splash of sweet & sour mix.
While maybe not sweet and sour mix but those bitters and sugar. You know what I'm talking about? Tuffy knows what I'm talking about.
I'm completely off pills, btw.
That goose is herb-encrusted.
If you know what I mean.
This is why we can't have nice things.
Ahhh then maybe I wouldn't mind eating the goose. Herbs are way better than pills. Congrats. And makes complete sense why you made the move out to California now.
I'll do it!
I hope so. I'll make the final decision soon.
“if you want to be a bird,” you said once, “with colorful plumage and buoyant trills, you must also be ready for hollow bones."
I really wanna do this. I can't say for certain yet though.

"Chuck calls Noah fortnightly on his bakelite rotary phone and gives him publisher's insider information and stock tips."- Tuffy
Fuck it, I'm in.
Woooo I'm really excited about the prospect of making and receiving a package from you guys (well, one of you), but I'm a bit scared about sending books to people. I will have to subtly add them to my Goodreads friends list.
I also plan to participate in Operation Christmas Child, which is sending a shoebox full of toys to a child in the third world (...but not Irina
) so I'm excited about that too!
Well duh, Hattie, I'm not a child.
/jk
Count me in.
I am in, I am poor, so dont expect anything like a puppy or a new car. But ya, probably.
As your attorney, my advise to you is to start drinking heavily(er).-Tuffy
Like all Christmas things, it's more about the thought than anything. You do what you can!
If you can afford to do a few drawings and buy a second hand copy of a book you think they would enjoy, then that's great. At least in my opinion.
If you want to spend $100 on a package, too, I doubt anybody will argue. haha
Wasn't there a limit before?
Before we were supposed to spend $25. But some people want to spend more, and maybe some can't afford that. I, personally, don't think we should have limits.
I will find great things, make great things and buy some things. I had a dream I mailed a bunch of you guys my teeth.

Dibs on Noah's teeth.
Limits have been used before but not always. I always ignored limits anyway and so did several others. I suggest folks do what is comfortable to them without incurring hardship.
Also, there have often been imperitives of "hand-written card, one book, etc.". I don't feel these are necessary. We all have depth here and can manage to do something nice and sincere and heartfelt without a set of instructions. But If there are objections, we can surely have them.
This is why we can't have nice things.
I just like getting mail thats not bills.

I like getting a book that somebody thinks I will enjoy. But I'm guessing most people would throw a book in the mix. Right? I don't know.
And I like stressing out for days and days trying to find somebody the perfect book. Most times I get so stressed, I say that I'm never going to do this again. haha
yep.
The book part stress me out too.
I might just send whoever I get a copy of fox n socks.
The book part is fun but it is definitely difficult to pick a book for another book nerd.
Yes! Great idea. We are poor as Job's turkey this year with our toddler, but, I'll send something cool. Probably send a handmade plush (by yours truly, and a book). And even though I'm new to the group, it always brightens my day with a laugh to check in, and see what you crazies are up too. Glad to find like-minded wing nuts. So, yeah I'm all in.
Your enthusiasm is great, but usually only established members participate. Since it involves time and money and giving out of addresses. People sort of like to know who they are spending their efforts on as well as know the person well enough to trust giving them their address.
Everyone participating would have to chime in and agree that you are in, since you are brand new.
This isn't personal (as I do not know you, but that is the point) my vote is No for this year.
I'm afraid im going to have to say that you're too new to participate in this year's.
This is why we can't have nice things.
That's a quick response. It's okay guys. No offence taken. Looking forward to more Secret Santas in the future.
I'll keep my conspiracy theory books, and The Corporate Dominatrix: Six Roles to Play to Get Your Way at Work, for another year.
I like the idea of no set stuff we have to send.
Me too, Sarah!
I like that too. Books are incredibly difficult to gift. Mostly because not everybody updates their Goodreads as religiously as I do. I probably have an idea about what some of you might like, but not everyone.
^This. I think I could just about manage it if we don't have to send novels though.
I didn't send Sam a book last year because I had no clue what to choose. And I wouldn't even dream of expecting to receive a book. It would be hell on earth for anyone to pick something like that for me.

I'm Tuffy the Dump Truck and one (1) lucky Cultie will receive a box of Total Awesome from me at a time approximating Saturnalia.
In keeping with tradition, I do not expect to receive anything from anyone in return; we can't be setting any dangerous precedents here.
This is why we can't have nice things.
