Oh geeze... simmer down now. My idea is obviously not super original, but I did leave pretty much all of the details out of it. I am not going to make a big deal about someone else having a phoenix tattooed on their body.
Also, I am king shit of tattoo mountain, all other imposters may step away from my pedestal.
“Now remember my three beginner’s tips for picking up chicks: Address her by name, isolate her from her friends, subtly put her down.”
I'm not boiling buddy, I'm not even simmering. I'm a slow-cooking stew, man.
My friend got lotus blossoms tattood over the abscess scars on her arms from years of dope shooting. Phoenixes (phoenixi?) would have also been a symbolic option there. So, if anyone out there quits their dope shooting habit you can totally steal my brilliant phoenix idea - I won't care. Just make sure your artist remembers the part that says, " Bess is the smartest and prettiest woman in the whole world. I love Bess. Forever." K, thanks.

My tattoo guy used to do upwards of five Godsmack suns a week. And then the 90s stopped.
Can I skip the smack and the phoenixiiusses and just get the Bess part?
This is why we can't have nice things.
Duh. Of course.

what does it say underneath the birdie?
POO TEE WEET
This is why we can't have nice things.
Found this on the internets today. I thought it was pretty badass.

yes that one is great.
Yeah, I love it.
I can't figure out the placing. Is it on the back of a leg?
Yeah, I think it's on the back/side of the outside of an upper leg.
Ah he/she has the heath ledger joker right next to Marla too!
Yeah, I noticed that, too.
That's not my leg.
This is why we can't have nice things.

Of all mine, that is my favorite.

Sweet. Sailor Jerry?
This is why we can't have nice things.
Not Sailor Jerry as such, but certainly can take some credit.
The term 'Mutual Bond' was inspired by a drunken night out with friends, where every few minutes we charged our glasses and screamed it as loud as possible. I said to my buddies that night 'I'm gonna get that tattooed one day'
And the rest as they say.... Will be on your skin forever!? Something like that.
I have a half sister named Phoenix.
Also, I saw the best, most beautiful tattoo I've ever seen a few weeks ago. It was on a customer at work. It was some Japanese guy and on his forearm he had a geisha sitting so you could see the profile of her right boob, and she had a kimono draped down like she had just pulled if off. And she was covered in super vivid colorful tattoos as well. I didn't get a really good look at it, but it was amazing.

That's dangerous. My Flipper tattoo came about in a similar manner.
This is why we can't have nice things.
I don't remember you posting a flipper tattoo...
EDIT: Oh, the fish tattoo from the first page. I thought there was a dolphin somewhere.
Mom's gonna fix it all soon.
Ha, no it's fine. I happen to think it is a rather fitting and timeless sentiment, where friendship is concerned. Also, it was years ago and other friends have similar tattoo's now as well.
As for your flipper tatt.... Well, er...
That Mutual Bond Tattoo is really nice. Slick trad work. Who did it, might I ask? And did they draw up the design? It looks very Vargas, but I'm likely wrong there.
My buddy, a guy called Nick Horn. Used to Tattoo at Cult classic, London. He's worked in New York and all over though.
Yeah, he drew it up there and then. Guy has an awesome talent.

Which reminds me, I need to make a trip to Walpole, MA soon.

Getting tattooed tomorrow--woooooo!
Mel's got a large chunk of time, so I'll probably get a couple. Firstly, I'm finally getting my mummy's rose coloured. And, there's this Angelique Houtkamp design of a girl, side on, with massive hair that looks kinda like the ocean and she has a ship at the top of her Marge Simpson hair. Been loving that design for a while, so I think I'll pop it on there somewhere.
And, finally, another silly tattoo (because why would you ever bother getting serious ones?): a Kiss Me, Judas tattoo. A little one. Old school flash-style kidney and scissors with either "Kiss me, Judas" or "If you want to live call 911" written around it. But we'll have to see about that one. Make a few sketches and whatnot.
Very excited. Love getting new permanent drawings on my skin.
Get that apostrophe!
This is why we can't have nice things.
Oh, yeah! Hahaa. I'll try and remember.
Finally got my ma's rose coloured. And hate it. Kinda. I just don't like colour tattoos very much, on me anyway. I think it'll look pretty badass when it fades and settles a bit. And, also, when I get the black and grey portrait of her above the rose. It'll pop, and stand out which is why I wanted the colour. Mummy's special and deserves special treatment.
Didn't have time to get the Kiss me, Judas ink, or the Angelique girl. But I'm heading back in a few days to get that shit done.

Looks good to me.
Also, if I hadn't said before, I really like that lettering.
This is why we can't have nice things.
Love the color Matty.
Ah, thanks, man. Forgot the apostrophe too! I swear I'll remember on Monday when I go back in. I should really give you my number and make you text me when I'm about to get started to remind me.
I'm happy with it, the rose, I am. She tidied up the outlines and made it a little more fancy with the rolled petal thing, but I'm just not that into colour. I'm such a Black-and-Greysman. She's done well though. It was so jail before. But I kinda liked that about it. Jail tats rule.
Yeah, I started adding some color when I realized I looked like a county inmate.
This is why we can't have nice things.
I like the mostly black and grey look though. It just looks cleaner to me. Too many colours and it gets all messy and the colours don't match and I can't deal with that.
this thread really makes me want a new tat. like, right now.
“if you want to be a bird,” you said once, “with colorful plumage and buoyant trills, you must also be ready for hollow bones."
Go get one!
Like, right now!
This is why we can't have nice things.
The blue looks nice, Matt. Plus this way it's definitely different to your chest piece.
Ah, man, I'm gonna have so many black and grey roses I'm gonna look like a walking garden. Can't have too many roses.
I'm pretty happy with it now. It's starting to settle a little and looks much better. I just wanna get the black and grey portrait of mummy above it now and finish it off. Think I'll book in soon. It'll be smaller than my Bob one, so it should only be about 2 hours work. I can afford that. Just. 300. So worth it.
When I went into the tattoo shop the other day, the other guy that works there, the owner, had a look at my Bob tattoo and was just in awe. Stared at it for five minutes straight. He said it was the best portrait he's ever seen done in Newcastle. And I was gushing. So stoked. He's been tattooing for over 30 years and does a lot of black and grey realism, so coming from him it was very nice.
Couple of new ones:
Mum's rose, coloured. Next up is a portrait of her above the rose.

A fun little Kiss me, Judas tattoo.

An Angelique design of a girl with a ship in her hair.

The Apostrophe. For Tuffy.

Covered by Christmas.
Nice! You need a real Angelique Houtkamp, though. Her stuff is so great.
Yeah, I'll just swing by her shop next week, pop in for a quick tattoo.
/dreaming.
Don't encuorage him, Kit! The lad's running out of skin!
This is why we can't have nice things.
While I'm at it, I'd love to get something from Vargas, and a beautiful big portrait from the Von D.
/dream within a dream.
not judging from what I saw in the dressed down thread!

Just for the record, I haven't seen very many Dylan tattoos. And I've never seen one of the photo I have. And of the ones I have seen online, without sounding like a prick, mine is much, much better in quality; therefore, I am the KING of getting tattoos.
And, I don't think I'm a snob at all. Other than the photo-realism, my favourite style is traditional-american, and that couldn't be less original if it tried.
But i think there's a difference.
Sure, get a phoenix. Who cares. If it's a fucking ripping design, then, yeah, it will be original. Just know that you're not the first person to have gone through a hardship and decided you would get a phoenix to represent you rising from the ashes. It's been done, and done, and then done again. And the only reason why I brought it up was because the person seemed protective over the idea. And there's obviously no need for that. Tattooists love doing phoenixes and shit like that though. They love to take a classic idea and modernising it.
