Portsmouth, May 4th
Anyone else seeing Chuck tomorrow in Portsmouth? This'll be my first time seeing him. Any tips on what to expect?
Oh, goody.
I'm excited! My brother & I are going together. He, too, is a huge Palahniuk fan.
Hey just bought my ticket for tomorrow evening, I've been on the phone trying to find a friend to come with...so far no takers. I figured I'll just put this out there in case anyone else is on the lonesome and wanted to meet up for dinner, or just a drink before hand and talk chuck or whatever else...?
Lame American towns stealing British city names!
I got excited for a moment
It was British people who recycled the name, so take it up with them.
I won't be there but wish I could...The Palahniuk going to the Shire and me not there is sadness.
Have fun gents! The Palahniuk's tour events never cease to amaze me.

Funny, I'm going with my brother too!
What a load of crap.
What a load of crap.
How so? White people didn't spring from the ground over here, they came from somewhere.

I think you're missing the point. Obviously there was a large area of land that became known as Portsmouth, USA. However, Portsmouth, UK predates Richard the Lionheart, so I really doubt a group of American Indians, or settlers just came up with the name randomly. Same goes for (New) Hampshire, Birmingham, Manchester, London...
oh, and...

USA (New Hampshire): the state's only seaport, it was established on the Piscataqua River, after which it was first named, in 1623. Having been renamed Strawbery Banke, it was renamed again in 1653 after the English city‐port because, like it, it was a port at a river mouth.3. Becoming a town in 1640, it was probably renamed after the English Portsmouth.5. USA (Virginia): a port at the mouth of the Elizabeth River, it was founded in 1752 and named after the English city‐port.
