Well, we had to use some travel credits by the end of the month (well, it had to be booked by then), so we're heading up to Portland for a weekend in August. Anyone around there, near there, want to hang out? Anyone never been there and want to pop that Portland cherry together?

Also, if there's anything cool going on that weekend that you locals think is worth checking out, lemme know.

Jules has already decided we're stopping by Voodoo Doughnuts at least twice.

EDIT : We will have our little baby girl with us, so probably no bar hopping-type activities. Tongue

So if you're coming to Portland you need to head north for about 30 minutes and hit up the St.Helen's book shop, everyone there is more than friendly and will spend hours talking Chuck with you. Also Powell's book is is a labyrinth of used and new books, and that is a must. If you can, you definitely want a hit up the waterfront on a weekend for Saturday Market. You will find all sorts of handmade goods, street performers and a good number of odd Portlanders. And the best part is all these things are more or less free and within blocks of the fabled Voodoo. While you're in downtown head to Pioneer Square, anything around there is worth checking out and its a great place to people watch and the information center will guide you anywhere you need. The Shanghai Tunnels are decent, nothing overly amazing but are still worth an hour. And if you have time check out the Portland Zoo.

The Children's Museum right next to the zoo is awesome. OMSI, on the east side of the waterfront is also incredible if you are into the interactive science museum thing. In both spots, the parents have as much fun as the kids. It looks like you will basically be here for a weekend+ so you HAVE to check out the Saturday Market (it's on Sundays too!). PM me if like a bit of a tour (I don't know you from Jacob, so I would want to meet up in a public place) or for me to write you out an itinerary. I love my city and I take every opportunity to spout off how wonderful it is to anyone who will listen. If I don't hear from you, have fun!

Good stuff. St Helen's is also going directly onto the itinerary.

And yeah, we're hoping to snag a few more friends to come along, but it'd be cool to hit up a book shop or something with the local culties. I'll let ya know.

Sadly though the trip to St Helens is lacking. You will go through the Portland Industrial area, A piss poor strip of highway called Linton and then hit Scappoose, my sad little hometown. The only thing here is the worlds Largest Peace Candle, its a two story cement candle that at one time was made of wax. Its Huge and red, you cant miss it. Then you're in St Helens, again not a whole hell of a lot. But don't get discouraged its well worth the trip and chances are the Bookshop ladies will have some Palahniuk swag they wouldn't mind getting rid of.

Cool, we'll set it up when we figure out where we're staying and such.

I should be living in Portland by then, and I'm always down for meeting with new Cult people
