an honest-to-science, lifelong dream was achieved last night. I met jane goodall. I'm still reeling from it. I remember reading in the shadow of man when I was a teenager and like swooning over the thought of going to africa by myself (and somehow not dying) and revolutionizing an entire field of study.
it's so lame, I was so nervous because I realized I only had about 20 seconds while she was signing my book to say what I wanted to say to her. so I walked up to her and said (while stumbling all over my words), "hi jane my grandmother gave me your book when I was young because I always loved animals and you've been a hero to me for years I'm a primatology student now and it's just REALLY NICE TO MEET YOU" (oh god I sounded so spastic)
and she smiled and put her hand on my shoulder and said "you do great things, okay"
and then I walked away and cried a little.

I used to live in my college's library basement. That was during my first semester, I had a crazy schedule and no car and not many friends... it was easier to just stay there in between classes.
My grades were never better. My mental health probably took a hit though. My point is... I know whatcha mean, girl.
