hey i like a good ol' slab of murdered cow for dinner as much as the next guy, but yea, PETA goes to extremes, but if they didn't, you'd probably be eating the crappiest meat on the planet because they helped establish laws that farms and slaughterhouses have to follow, therefor keeping the animal in better conditions than most farmers/slaughterhouses would do it if was left up to them. and then instead of 5% of every McD's hambuger being fecal matter, it would be probably around 20%. chew on that cud.

Valium, read "Fast Food Nation" by Eric Schlosser. but only read it if you're sure that you'd want to know this stuff. he backs up pretty much everything in his book with factual evidence from the FDA.

a hardcore vegan would be someone who, in addition to not eating any animal products, will not wear leather or any other item made with animal hide. the kind of person who will not eat honey because it "exploits bees". a truly hardcore vegan, as robert lowell once put it, "wears rope shoes and prefers fallen fruit." this is also the type of person who can seriously compare factory farms to the holocaust, and who throws fake blood on people wearing fur coats.

a softcore vegan, to me, believes strongly in not using any animal products, but respects other people's choices, is practical when it comes to things like clothing and is mature when speaking out about their ideas.
