Opening Day...Thoughts?
Okay, so I saw The Dark Knight last evening...and although it might have been my brain telling me it was good simply to justify the wait in line, I can easily say it was the best blockbuster out this year. As a huge Jack Nicholson fan, I highly doubted that the star of cinimatic highpoints such as 10 Things I Hate About You, A Knight's Tale, and Cassanova could take his place as The Joker. But my thoughts on Nolan's first installments of the new Batman series were hopeful, because while Burton's Caped Crusader was more comic and reminiscent of the show (in which the best dialogue was in caption bubbles), Nolan's interpretation was disturbingly sinister. And this is, of course, the way Batman should be. Nicholson's portrayal of the Joker was comical, and yes, homicidal, but it was just this side of hilarious due to his charisma and charm. The Joker as a back-handed ladies man...you can see why Harley Quinn would swoon. The new Joker, however, acts as though he would be just as likely to kill her as anyone else...
And we finally get a back story, in a movie, of Two Face...a very good one might I add, and although I don't happen to be Aaron Eckhart's biggest supporter, he did well. Never could he hope to live up to Mr. Jones...but, he was decent. His makup, on the other hand, could have been better...
Love Miss Maggie G. as Rachael, as I've always thought that Katie holmes looks like a runway model hopeful with Down's Syndrome, so although I hate replacements, this was the first time I whole heartedly approved.
This movie, like a Tool song, is extremely long, but entertains the entire way through. Fight scenes were fantastic, plot was brilliant, special effects looked as real as the rest of the film, and best of all, some of the best previews I've seen so far this year. Look for Watchmen, Terminator (also starring Christian Bale), New Ben Stiller Movie, Extended Mummy trailer, The Day the World Stood Still and a bunch more that I can't remember....
Can't wait to here what everyone thought!
when we we're coming out of the theater last night there was some film crew for a Reelz(?) channel. I don't think they got it when i told them they wouldn't let them take the camera in to make a pirate movie. they kinda sneered at me.
Oh Jar Jar, every one hates you but me.
there aren't any spoilers in here...all that shit you could've deduced from the fucking trailer...Harvey Dent is Two Face???!!! OMG!
Some of us have avoided knowing ANYTHING about the movie whatsoever, and I for one would appreciate holding off a lot of reviewing until, you know, at least 24 hours after the movie opens. Aand also, there's already a Batman thread.
You're lucky you ain't my wife, cause I would slap you in the face many a time like you was Connie Corleone!
I post everything in this forum for some reason...I think it's like defaulted onto my posts, lol. Appologies for breaking forum etiquette...=(
I was actually able to move this one from GD.
I don't get how my powers work anymore. :(
Spoilers, faggot.
are you asking for them?
i'll give you a spoiler...there's nothing at the end of the credits so there's no reason to stay.
No, I don't, but that's good advice.

I'm having a lot of mixed emotions about this. I want my family to go but I worry that the movie might be too violent for my 9 year old.
Viewing now = nightmares later?
i think that will be the biggest gripe about this movie is that it didn't show enough of the violence and whatnot. sure, there's plenty but most of the real brutal stuff you never see. that being said, the joker is pretty damn scary just by himself and two face looks a lot like Darkman unmasked if you've ever seen that. It might be too intense for 9, i dunno, i don't really know what other movie to compare this to to give ya some idea on the violence chart.

Kind of already apologized for posting in the wrong place...and unless youre a hermit...in alaska....and partially retarded, I assumed everyone had at least seen a trailer. And if you were really excited about the movie, you would've seen it last night, and my thread would pose no inconvenience on your part.

giggan ruined that one because ron paul told him he gets free movie passes if he votes for him or something, i dunno...

I haven't seen a trailer, actually. And I work, because I'm a fucking grownup, so I couldn't go last night. The earliest I can go is tonight at 7 pm.

not clicking into new batman threads would probably be on that list.
Note that it doesn't actually say anything about Batman in the title. I clicked it thoughtlessly as a new thread.
I wish we still had that little thread preview hover thing.

Umm, nobody over twenty refers to themselves as a grown up, and I have a full time job that starts at six am and usually goes to about six pm... and yet, five hours ago...I was elbow deep in a bucket o popcorn enjoying the hell out of myself...=)

So...people UNDER 20 refer to themselves as grownups?

Mamma Mia opens today, actually. And if you had a movie about the opening day of Batman, why wouldn't you put it in the movies forum? I don't know what kind of opening day it would be, if it presumably was not about a movie. Maybe the rodeo came to your town.

Actually, there were other movie openings:
July 18 - A Man Named Pearl (NY; LA July 25) - A Very British Gangster (NY, LA) - Before I Forget (NY) - The Dark Knight (conventional theaters and IMAX) - The Doorman (NY) - Felon (NY, LA) - Lou Reed's Berlin (limited) - Mad Detective (NY) - Mamma Mia! - Space Chimps - Take (NY; LA release: Jul. 25) - Transsiberian (NY)
But there are many reasons lots of people couldn't make a midnight showing. Sold out theatres, jobs, children, etc.
Once again, I live in Boston, and it says that beneath my pic, so clearly any movie opening in LA or NY would not be a movie opening for me. And three solutions:
Buy tix early
Nobody actually needs eight hours of sleep before working
and children are irritating and completely the parents fault, and therefore cannot be used as an excuse
I live in Boston...where exactly would we have a rodeo? Why so serious?
Good morning, Nate. I love you for things like this.
and a fine morning it is, isn't it? I was a little worried about doing that if jane yells Spoiler! and calls me a faggot but you know what I Don't Care! So there!

I wasn't trying to attack you. I was just making a post. I am honestly one of the nicest people here.
That being said, I don't appreciate your comment about children. I'm going to take that personally. I just moved 1000 miles from home a week ago and have no one to watch my child so I can go see a movie. I love my daughter and put her safety as a top priority. So, I really can't just leave her asleep and attend a midnight showing.
I'm sorry you're feeling the need to defend yourself against what I said but it would be nice if you would refrain from making blanket statements about parents and their children.
I wasn't defending myself and I didn't think you were attacking me. I just hate children. Not saying you should practice poor parenting and leave her by herself at all. The only thing worse than a kid is a badly cared for kid...
I'm sure you are nice, I wasn't insuating that you weren't...
The watchmen trailer was bad ass....I really thought that the The Day the Earth Stood Still looked interesting, too. Kinda curious to see the Leonardo Dicaprio movie...Blood Diamond was excellent, and his last several movies have been decent as well so hopefully this movie follows suit.
Back in the fifties and sixties, there were folks who would drive around small rural communities, setting up a large movie screen and projector, having outdoor movies for anyone to come and see...
Every friday night my uncle would pay for this man to set up behind his house, and people would come from miles around, to watch the picture shows. My uncle would make money by selling goodies from his gas station and bar, which was also their house...
I didn't always think too highly of digital media, I like my shit old school, but anymore I think it is the only thing that will save the cinema, and by save I mean blow the everloving shit out of it, to smithereens, be gone with the whole mess of it, slash-n-burn, let the ashes of the 30-plexes feed our tomorrow, let the green grass grow anew, let our sight behold the new day's dawn, power to the people I say, POWER TO THE CINEMA!!!!!!!!
oh yeah, i meant to bring this up earlier...
I don't happen to be Aaron Eckhart's biggest supporter, he did well. Never could he hope to live up to Mr. Jones...
you mean Mr. Jones impersonation of Jack Nicholson as the Joker? That's all he did in that movie! echhh! it was bad, and shame on you for reminding people about it!
