That whole bit was due to the director's notion that Children's Lit is one of Great Britain's greatest contributions to the culture.
This! A lot of people were also saying that the villains over the hospital bed were a kind of metaphor for the government who threaten the NHS. I don't know if that's true or not.
It was completely weird, I've never seen anything like it! I loved when they went through all the British music but didn't like the texting bit with that boy and girl, that made me cringe.
I liked most of the opening ceremony, but I particularly enjoyed J K Rowling reading from Peter Pan, the forging and uniting of the circles and the Mary Poppins moment.
I wasn't able to watch the opening ceremony, but absolutely everyone is talking about it, so I better check it out online.
I thought most of it was pretty cringeworthy (especially the NHS part) but loved the Queen's cameo with James Bond.
I haven't watched any of the Olympics. But after reading some of these posts, I found this:

So what is the connection between Batman and the latest spree of killings? Are they attempting to Raise a Dark Knight? Hopefully this video will answer all of your questions and more.

I am getting up at 8:30, ready and sitting at my 'desk' for 9:30 (the time I start work ordinarily) and then dip in and out of the coverage throughout the day, until about 5:30 - 6:00pm where I snap the laptop shut.

When I was in the 11th grade and got a new PE teacher, she asked me if I'd done gymnastics when I was a kid, because I definitely had the flexibility and stamina. Second best compliment I received in my life. And I did, in fact, for two years, in between ballroom dances and karate.
My only regret about our gymnasts is that Andreea Raducan (picture) retired after competing in 2000 at Sydney. Gold medallist with the team and silver medallist at vault, she was stripped of her gold medal for taking Nurofen Cold&Flu, which made it look like doping.
There's also a procedure (?) named after Simona Amanar, 7 times Olympic medallist.
Oh Phelps, the disappointment.. Just silver at 200m butterfly.
I teared up in the BBC interview with Chad Le Clos, was kind of glad someone else got a (temporary) look in other than Phelps! Phelps made a silly mistake not doing an extra stroke at the end.
Also - feel like a perve, but Le Clos is really handsome. His Dad is now trending on Twitter (what a legend)!

I read the cracked article, I did not watch any documentary.
I also noticed that the mighty Budweiser is a sponsor et cetera et cetera, yes I have all my cynical opinions about that too.
But you know what. Not everything has to be a cynical bullshit conspiracy. Even if it is heavily armed, because there are psycho fundamentalists running rampant in this world, and even if it is being funded by a bunch of corporate overlords, because someone has got too and at least they are doing something good for once, that does not change the fact that it is bringing the world together in peaceful brotherhood and sisterhood and healthy competition, that does not change the fact that these athletes give us hope in humanity, that they do in fact show what the highest level of human determination can accomplish, it does not change that they are the the embodiment of human physical beauty and strength gained through dedication to the form of their own body and what it is capable of, what we could have all been capable of had we the strength in our own hearts.

Just watched the all-around individuals and Gabby Douglas is the first black girl to win the Olympic title. Totally well-deserved, she was extraordinary! Also, poor Russian girl crying all the time.

Prettiest gymnast, best result - Romanian Sandra Izbasa is the new Olympic champion in vault. The other two performances were so pathetic, both the silver and the bronze medallists fell on one of their jumps. I feel sorry for the girl from the Dominican Republic though, she had a 7.1 difficulty on her first jump, if she hadn't fallen, she would've got the gold.
I did tear up a little at this, with the anthem playing.
