Olympics 2012

Here you can find the schedule and the results:

Will you be watching? Where? With who? Which event are you most excited about watching? Anyone in specific you're cheering for?
I've always loved watching the Olympics. People get all excited about their own countries!
I love everything that has to do with Athletics and Gymnastics, so I'll try to watch that as much as I can! Swimming can also be fun to watch, but that's because the Dutchies tend to do quite well.
I'll be watching the first week in The Netherlands, but I don't think me and my boyfriend will actually be sitting in front of the tv much then. Probably in the mornings though! When I go back to Norway I won't have much time either, because I'll be working every day again. Oh well, I'm sure there will be reruns of events that I could watch.
What about you all?
A dude I went to high school with is gonna be in the Olympics with no national sponsorship, since he's a refugee from Sudan and doesn't have US citizenshipdom yet. Other than finding that awesome, and wishing every other athlete threw off their national colors, I'll probably be watching the same amount I watched last time; sobre five minutes worth.

Oh and I'll probably watch the opening ceremony because I'm going out tonight, and will probably come back around the time it's on tv (11 pm our time).
I have to keep reminding myself that this is the world we live in now, and its not just a shitty 80s dystopian movie.

God Giggan, do you always have to put a downer on EVERYTHING? Your life must be incredibly miserable.
To quote the hit British comedy Peep Show:
It's not that it's a conspiracy. It's that it's a system that can be abused, as well as improved.
Carrying on, check out these super amazing, 3D printed shoes that're supposed to win the olympics!

Si vis pacem, para bellum
WOOOW at the forged circles!
Did she really jump? I was literally mouth agape when the parachute opened.
I have to admit I didn't watch all of it, I stopped after the Athletes' moment, because it was too late at night. I saw footage of the fireworks though, and I have to say they were amazing. In fact the whole ceremony (what I saw, over half of it) was great.
When is the basketball on?
In 15 minutes.
Beach volleyball is at the same time, though
You are joking, right?
It was cheesy and embarrassing but so much fun! It really sucked me in, I feel all excited for the Olympics now.
No, I couldn't tell. I mean, I know it probably must've been a stunt, but I couldn't tell.
What the fuck? Nuh-uh. This is The Beatles.
I do not understand how The Olympics works.
I guess I can't watch China vs Czech women's basketball here. Oh well. I'm rooting for Thag in this bicycle race.

The Vice Guide to the Olympics is on FOREVER on the internets!

So, is Thag really in the olimps? Youtube it for posterity, por favor.

We won the first medal - silver for women's judo - 48kgs.
Fencing is the only real sport in the summer olympics. Two people going at each other vigorously with weapons. The possibility of death is very very real. Yay fencing.
This is why we can't have nice things.
Well we might win a medal in women's fencing, we have a great team.
Haha, we.

Vice is neat. Have you seen their story on Scopolamine? I'm not sure if I spelled that right but it's scary bad voodoo.
Aw, they have sword fighting in the olympics? I just found they have gun shooting, too. And archery. And fire! I had no idea how violent they are. Last night, I ended up somehow watching a bunch of clips of gymnasts falling on their necks. I remember being a little kid and watching people just run and jump as hard as they could into a sand pit...some went legs first like a drop kick, others nose dove and came out all sandy-faced with sand all over their heads. And there was this one black guy who kept getting hurt somehow. He would dive through the sand, then lay there for a minute, then come out crying with sand all over his head, and I knew he was going to get hurt every time he came on and I had no idea what the point of the game was but I wanted to do it so I went outside and played Olympic sand diving. It sucked. Was this game actually real or did I dream it?
Guess I'll be breezing through these Olympics just like with Athens and Beijing : not seeing a single minute of them.

Unfortunately, in the shooting events, they are not pointing their guns at each other. That would be a sport!
This is why we can't have nice things.
I don't have any television, so I can't watch. But I would love to watch gymnastics and swimming.
Mom's gonna fix it all soon.
USA vs France basketball! The stupid clock broke and they set it back wrong and someone just got a tech foul for "talking". WTF, Olympics.
Watched the opening ceremonies of the Olympics in the town square in front of Paris city hall. The British ambassador was there. The opening was AMAZING!!! Met some British girls and they were so happy with it.
The only access I have to the Olympics is on Eurosport, and all the talking is in German. that's fine, though, all I need is to watch.

Yeah, it's probably best you can't understand what they are saying. The NBC announcers were getting on my nerves. One of them kept making inappropriate/negative remarks about each country that was walking in.
Lucy has been watching Olympic coverage almost non-stop since it began. I'm a little concerned about her.
This is why we can't have nice things.
Gah the dude finished 4th in the sword competition. But today start our girls, double world champions, so beware!
I can watch the Olympics in 5 different languages here, which is quite fun.
Wasn't able to watch much yesterday, because I spent time with all 4 of my grandparents, but I did watch us winning the gold with cycling (women).
We now have a silver (swimming, 400 m, should've won like last time though) and a gold medal!
Yes, well done to the Dutch lady in the cycling - she was amazing!
Yesterday I spent all day on the sofa watching Olympics coverage. I shed some tears for GB 2-time Gold Medalist Rebecca Adlington, she's my sporting hero and I was so happy for her to get a Bronze medal in the swimming. I've also really enjoyed watching the beach volleyball.
Right now I'm watching GB's 18 year old weight lifter, Zoe Smith, kicking some serious ass.
Some photos from my window on Friday:

First gold medal: 10m air rifle. From the looks of it, we were also very good at rowing (women's double, first qualification round - finished first) and women's fencing.
Nice pictures, Hattie! Are you enjoying working from home by the way?
Watching judo right now! Dutch person in the semi-final, against a Japanese guy.
EDIT_
Damn that Japanese guy!
The athletes have no identities, they are just flags. When the flag wins, we all live vicariously through this nameless person representing us. Thank you, athlete I don't know, for proving how awesome I/We am!

"They sold you hippies grunge, hip hop, now liberty activism."
LOL
Hey, I know those who compete in fencing, judo and gymnastics. They're about the only people on sports news besides football players. Of course that's a shame, but apparently our tv stations think it's more important to know who footballer X is dating and what club owner Y said about player Z's new haircut.
Stop mocking my flagthletes!
This is why we can't have nice things.

Britain just got fucked out of a Silver medal and Ukraine got fucked out of a bronze. Japan was in fourth, when really, they should have been 5th. 2 of their competitors fell off of the pommel horse, and they submitted an "inquiry" and the judges changed the score and so then ended up in second. It's total shit.
We lost in semifinals in women's epee individuals, but there's still the team competition where we have great chances, and only got another silver medal at judo.
The French have just won their 3rd swimming gold medal. Tearing it up!
I saw a good portion of the opening ceremony, it was weeeeird. I'm at the bar right now and what I think is water polo is on tv, but I'm not really watching. According to Sean our men's gymnastics team took first in the prelimenaries and looks really good, so I might try to catch some of that.

Good, I wasn't the only one.
I joked about them doing a Peter Pan bit because my mom asked why there were children in pajamas sure enough the next act was Second from the Right and Straight on to Morning or whatever. I didn't understand why they had to go overboard with the villains and nightmare with those crazy ape looking things.
The assembling of the rings was amazing though.

I always watch Gymnastics (because we kick ass, but this year one of our most promising girls got an injury this week) and Swimming. This year I'll also watch a few Tennis matches, mostly because our girls play the Williams sisters in their first game, and that's gonna be it
Cheering for Michael Phelps and our girls in Gymnastics.
