I can't believe that this person kept posting to this site as these things were unraveling. I'm not happy about what they did, but I'm glad they made a record of it.

I agree with you. I want to read all of it, but I can't right now. But I read part of the first post. Let's just say I sympathize with him on a personal level. I know what he was thinking, how it builds up slowly. That could have easily been me.

I'm bookmarking this so I can read the rest of them tomorrow.

Well that was horrible.

I feel sorry for her but definitely not as sorry as she feels for herself.

I went through like the first 6-7 of them. Do they ever say what it is exactly they did? Seems like just a bunch of hemming and hawing, but never getting to the point.

It's a blog so the first post where she talked about getting caught dealing drugs and being given the option to be an informant is down at the very bottom.

Memento already did this.

So if i read that little bit correctly, she (a drug dealer) is a victim of the war on drugs?

I'm pretty sure she's trying to claim its entrapment (without saying it, probably cuz her lawyer already said it wasn't).

I don't think she's claiming anything. She was just telling her story. How she went from buying a few things for friends and her justifications of why that was okay, to doing bigger things. And then she got caught.

I don't know, man. She sounds like she's trying to make it seem like she was coerced into it, which she could make the argument for, if that "friend" that introduced her to the undercover cop was also coerced into making her get into selling larger quantities by the police.

I've only read a few of the post. Maybe I should go back and read them all.

It's like this. My mom used to be a youth counselor and she worked at a group home for bad kids. It always made for some interesting childhood tales. But anyway, once the group home did a Scared Straight field trip to a prison and since my mom was a counselor, i was able to go as well.

One of the prisoners stood up and asked what we would do if we were new in prison and a fellow prisoner stole our TV set. He went around the room telling each of us why our solutions wouldn't work. Can't tell the guards, then you're a snitch. Can't go beat him up, you're new in prison and you're young. Can't just do nothing, then you're a punk. There were many potential solutions, all of them debunked.

You want to know how to solve the problem of a prisoner stealing your TV in prison?

YOU DON'T GO TO PRISON.

You love Drive. Don't try to talk reasonably.

Yeah, I'm not sure this really applies to the central idea. Yeah, don't be a dealer, that's the easy way, but what's controversial is the discussion of an oppressive culture. If what she says is true, she was providing a victimless service, and she could very well have been influenced by the government into making more dangerous choices, causing her to commit more "crime" than she might ever have committed on her own, and now they own her future indefinitely because of it, given no chance of rehabilitation. But, since she was influenced to do it by an informant rather than a direct official, it doesn't count as entrapment, even if that informant was acting on the orders of said officials (which is still unclear).

I'm just saying i don't really feel bad for someone getting into more trouble when they were already in trouble in the first place.

See, that's the attitude the cops probably have, which makes it seem okay to push these people into further trouble.

Exactly.

And it's wrong.

No, no. You had it right the first time. Let's make them sell more drugs, instead.

This is the last thing I'm going to say on this - you get sucked into selling drugs slowly (at least the way she did).

You sell some weed and maybe once in a while shrooms to your friends. Then a friend asks you to get coke. You do it once, but that means you're their go-to person from then on. And they have a few friends that like doing that stuff. And at those small amounts, you're not even really making money. Meanwhile, the police are collecting infractions on you so they can make it seem like you're a big supplier.

I'm not saying that person shouldn't get in trouble. I'm saying that the police shouldn't bank infractions so they can make themselves look better.

I was also saying that I sympathize with her. I was in her shoes. I didn't mean to get myself in the position I was in. It just kind of happened.

So you accidentally sold drugs for how long?

Whatever, i'd like real arguments instead of just rebuttals. Then we'll talk.

Your argument amounts to "She broke the law. Therefore, she's a bad person. Therefore, we shouldn't care if she was manipulated into doing it to a more a intense degree by those who wish to use that as a way to incriminate her further." And so, it's not a matter of arguments. It's a matter of basic principle. Obviously, you disagree with her previous lifestyle to the point where you don't care what happens to her. I, however, do sympathize, strictly because I don't see that she's in any way malicious, so I don't see her as the enemy, so I don't agree with the way they "handled" her.

Those are the positions as I see them.
