Monthly Sketch Project: January
Okay so I couldn't make up my mind on the theme/project for this month so here's how it's gonna go down...
If you wanna try something:
Easy/Fun= Draw a made up monster/creature. Get creative and if you have kids have them join in on the fun.
If you want to challenge yourself:
Make a collage and recreate it using a media you don't normally use.
Example:
Rip/cut out images from old magazines glue them on a piece of paper.

You can make a grid and enlarge it.

I used watercolor and pencil to recreate the collage.
Sweet.
I have sketch books full of random made up shit, this is going to be good.
As your attorney, my advise to you is to start drinking heavily(er).-Tuffy
Here are a couple ink drawings I worked on:
My EyeSpy-der

And a Parrot Fish or CockaTuna

Yeah, I'm a dork.
I haven't attempted to draw it yet, but I made a collage based on the idea of psycological monsters.
This is the first collage i've done in a few years and I don't think I've ever really incorporated words into one before so i thought that would be fun.
I also (re)learned that elmers glue isn't the best afixant when it comes to this sort of project.
close ups of different sections so the words are all readable
I like your idea Freemena can't wait to see what you draw up.
Freemena can't wait? Or are you confusing us again?
The thing is pretty chaotic, can't decide how much I even care for it.
The second one is too complicated. I shall be inventing a creature.

I'm curious as to what you're gonna conjure up. Hurry I wanna see!
'How do you spell pearl necklace?' .. hahaha
I don't have any magazines, so I guess I'm drawing a creature.
I'll try and do this while I'm in California!

Plenty of creatures in California! They might inspire you! haha
that's true, plus I'm hoping to go to the zoo!
I want to draw something now, but I can't even write my name

A linocut I'm working on. The second half of the lyric "The abolition of man is within the reach of science, but are we so far gone that we'll try it." A super late Christmas present for my friend. : x
As beautiful and tragic as a flower on a grave.
You can see it a little bigger here.
Cool you finished the eye monster drawing!
Use your other hand or mouth. Now that's a challenge! sorry Mel hope your hand feels better soon.

Yeah, there's a bunch of little weird creatures in there. It was fun to do - doodled with ink and brush till it was full.
It's an odd size and I was thinking I wanna think of a cool cheap way to make frames now. Maybe from scrap wood. I don't know.
It's lucky you picked this subject, cause I have 2 other things I'm working on right now that could maybe loosely fit into the theme.
Nice work! my favourite part is the right hand side, from the sign with the arrow to the edge
Thanks! It was a lot of fun.
Use your other hand or mouth.
Those don't ever work for me.
Tuffy the Dump Truck may rarely increase the risk of a heart attack or stroke. The risk may be greater if you have heart disease or increased risk for heart disease (for example, due to smoking, family history of heart disease, or conditions such as high blood pressure or diabetes), or with longer use. Tuffy should not be taken right before or after heart bypass surgery. Also, Tuffy may infrequently cause serious (rarely fatal) bleeding from the stomach or intestines. This effect can occur without warning symptoms at any time while taking Tuffy. Older adults may be at higher risk for this effect. (See also Precautions and Drug Interactions sections.) Stop taking Tuffy and get medical help right away if you notice any of the following rare but serious side effects: bloody or black/tarry stools, persistent stomach/abdominal pain, vomit that looks like coffee grounds, chest/jaw/left arm pain, shortness of breath, unusual sweating, weakness on one side of the body, sudden vision changes, slurred speech. Ask your doctor if Tuffy is right for you.
no comment.

haha
Awesome totem.
I've never been very good at drawing from my head. I drew these things with my right hand, which is my wrong hand.

Those are awesome Melody. I'm no where near being able to draw that well with my wrong hand (which is my left).
The first one makes me thing of you with your injury.
Also, I just had come to mind my teacher, Mr. Miller, in 7th and 8th grade. He was ambidextrous, in an interesting way - he wrote with his right hand and drew with his left. And he couldn't do either with the wrong hand.
Those are awesome Mel.
It's a bearded mushroom. He uses his beard to sort of slink about until he finds a cold, damp place to sit around and be emo about stuff. He eats only insects that occasionally wander up his beard, and sometimes small frogs or toads. From an evolutionary standpoint, he's like the Venus flytrap's ugly cousin.
He's a melancholy fellow since he isn't sure if he's the only one like him, or if he were to meet another, how on earth they'd reproduce. Also, he'd totally be into experimenting with recreational drugs (aside from other mushrooms, of course) except that he doesn't have any hands. So someone would have to be nice and help him out. And no one does. So he's sad.

Ooo I like that Tony! Color it please!
You don't have to color it but I think it would look awesome if you did.
I need to stop saying awesome so damn much!
I'm so sad now for the bearded mushroom.
Nice Tony
I dreamt about your mushroom during my nap!

Euphemism!

bahahahaha. touche.

All these are really cool. I like the collages a lot, maybe I will try one.
The bearded mushroom would make me sad if he wasn't wearing a pirate captain hat. He gives me mixed feelings.
There's no way I could draw that well with my wrong hand! Not in ink especially.
I'm glad the eye spider doesn't exist in real life, but I wouldn't mind having a parrot fish or a trumpet nosed spermtadpole, as long as they don't fight.
I think I'm more creative when I use my right hand. Maybe its because I don't expect perfection, just silliness.

I totally didn't even think that.
Nice.

Collage I made and drawing I'm working on with marker

That's looking really cool. I like the idea of using a collage for the composition of the final. It probably really sharpens the drawing skills of recreating what you see too.
What kind of markers? Are they special artsy ones? I haven't worked with markers that much, only acrylic paint or computer for coloring usually.
A mix of some cheap RoseArt markers, a cheap set I bought at a Dollar store, Pentel, and some Sharpies. I've used Prisma markers before and they're awesome but I love Sharpie's more.
This forum will take some getting used to...hmmm
Edit: This was meant for Dan. Oh man that is freaking awesome! I love the ant!
Dear New Person,
This thread is not for you to show off sketches. It is here for those participating in the monthly sketch project. Either participate or gtfo.
Thanks,
Melody

I agree I just didn't get a chance to say anything. Also the first drawing reminds me of the alien in watchmen(the novel).
Thanks, you two. Hopefully I didn't totally derail the thread and the first two of those drawings can count as made up creatures.

And how can I knock this out in five minutes in MSPaint?
