You know what? Ive reread this first post and cant find anything douchey about it. Especially since I researched other Intro threads and find it quite similar. I would bump a few but that would be cuntish.

Really, why? There was nothing - nothing - in his introductory post to recommend his writing. He gave us "i write and shit heres a link oh an heres a pictcure of me with mussy hair an i havent shaved in a couple weeks as you can see i have a tattoo also there are cartoon cigarettes floating over my head" So um, yeah, if he was going for simultaneously boring and repellent, he nailed it. Not an easy combination, so we should give him that.
Now, Brandon, he came in here and plugged his book. And he caught some hell for it. But he wasn't a dick, he stuck it out, didn't cry, and became a fully-participating member of this community. But this dillweed up here, he doesn't give a rat's ass about this forum or the people on it, or even what he can get out of it by taking part; he just wants you to click his link and validate his existence.
No thanks.
I don't come here to read page after page of plugs for a multitude of "indie" writers' portfolios, and I don't think that most of the others here do either.
I'll also add that no one with that thin of a skin is likely to succeed at anything, let alone as a writer.

And, yes, I read the rest of the thread.

hey, joseph. dont get too butt hurt. never take message boards too seriously. it's just not worth the indigestion. it just prompts you to do stupid shit, like try to rile people up over nothing at all. all this "Okay, forum guy" talk is really just without point or merit. tuffy's cool people and you'll see that in enough time. the point is, you did the right thing by putting it in the "trades and promotions" area--assuming it wasnt moderately moved by admin or frank or someone..
i mean, there's nothing wrong with asking people to read your shit by following your zine. if you get a response you dont like, it doesnt really matter. at least you asked. defending your request is the dumb part. you dont have anything to defend; nobody here really knows you, like at all. so what pride was hurt enough to defend. you just asked, then move along.
i dont tend to read zines. theyre more for the writers and the writers' friends, i think, than everyday readers. hell, ive only read a few of richard's and he's one of my favorite people here. maintaining a zine is a great way for writers to stay sharp. so keep writing.
also, this thread does show that you could use some thickening of the skin. workshops are hard. chuck has skin like metal, it seems that he's a rare breed when it comes to authors in workshops. some of the other authors whove taught here: will christopher baer is bad to the bone yet he has no interest in workshops. craig clevenger calls them necessary evil. the point is, the thick skin part of gathering responses on your work from strangers is a tough job. it takes time and practice. consider joining the workshop here. dont ask people to give responses on your shit. review other peoples work and it will be reciprocated.
but dont be mad on an open forum if people dont give you the response your looking for. we have a workshop forum that is a bit more serious. this area of the site is for banter and tom foolery.
have a good day, brother. hope to see you around the site more.
