It's August? It's hot, I'm tired, this is the picture thread.
I read The Sun Also Rises last year and enjoyed it, but I also didn't really get into it until about two thirds of the way. It was one of those books that I had to really trek and push throough but then one quote right near the end made the whole thing beautiful and worth it, and without the whole book before it the quote/pages around that quote wouldn't have meant much..
Cannery Row is on my list of books I;m reading before the year ends.
Thanks for your reviews Pepper. I knew the books were classics and I'd heard of them, but that doesn't always mean their good. So far I'm either going to read Cannery Row or For Whom The Bell Tolls first.
Whatever Whore!
I've read The Sun Also Rises and For Whom the Bell Tolls. All the subtleties make The Sun Also Rises my favorite Hemingway book (great characters) but I reread For Whom the Bell Tolls last year and was blown away. That one is a great read.
I've been to Cannery Row. It's cool, but a little touristy.
Some good restaurants. First time I ever had thresher shark was there.
This is why we can't have nice things.
Now For Whom The Bell Tolls is at the top of my list! May start reading tonight.
Whatever Whore!
One of the hotels I used to manage was on Cannery Row. I forget the name of the restaurant attached, but it had some great shark options.
You know in all the years I've been here I've never been sigged?
I've read those, too, and they're all good books (Cannery Row is kinda boring and to me, Steinbeck is more manly than Hemingway, and manly lit's not my favorite. But I do love Hemingway, so...anyway, I digress).
READ GONE WITH THE WIND. It's a fact that Gone With the Wind is the greatest movie of all time.
It really is.
The book is one of my all time favorites, and the opening line is wonderfully surprising if you have an image of Vivien Leigh in your head when you think of Scarlett O'Hara.
“Scarlet O'Hara was not beautiful, but men seldom realized it when caught by her charm as the Tarleton twins were."
Well Alecia I am pretty excited about seeing the movie. I'm sure I can get it on Netflix. But I wonder which to do first read or watch. I don't want one to ruin the other, but from the sounds of it, this may not be the case if the movies is that good. Well either way, I have lots to look forward to with these books and the movie. Its interesting hearing everyone's opinions on the books and recommendations. About a month ago I was trying to find a good recommendation for a book, and now I have too many to choose from and not enough time on my hands. I'm still pretty sure I'm starting with For Whom The Bell Tolls.
Whatever Whore!
Oops wrong thread!

Beautiful! Short hair really suits you.
Now if you'll excuse me, I have some beach pictures to download from my camera.

Horsey

Before the dolphin show, the day it rained

Last night, very cold, in the only normal bar in the resort

Imke I really like your short doo! It really makes your eyes pop. Very flattering. Irina , looks like you're having all sorts of fun. I want to go to a beach!
Whatever Whore!
Winnie, the fun is over, I'm back home now. But it was a nice week, even when it rained, because that day I saw a dolphin show, a mini-zoo, an exotic birds exhibition and the planetarium.
You look lovely in those, Irina.
I know this is going to sound really weird, but you kind of remind me of my Mum when she was in her early 20s. Although that was back in the seventies (flower power!) and she had much shorter hair, but I can definitely see a resemblence. I will try and dig some photos out next time I go visit!
Thanks, Hattie.

Irina! You are so pretty and I just LOVE all the pictures of the birds!
We saw this, just leaving San Francisco, I'm yelling at Gabriel to take pictures, should have just let him keep filming have gotten he would gotten all the flames and everything. ah well.
(DAMN SCARY! The whole thing was engulfed!)
He got a shot of the firefighters putting it out right as we passed.

then entering the Shasta Forest, we saw a forest fire just starting, between the time it took for him to snap these pictures and us to round the bend in the road, at least four large trees were completely aflame:

Oh, also, we saw this sign, in San Francisco...
oh man, that abandoned casino looks amazing, Irina.
It looks amazing, but it hurts to think nobody wants to restore it - the mayor and the minister of Culture keep fighting over who should have the responsibility, and in the meantime pigeons die inside and everything collapses. I have many more pictures of the rooms, I'll post more tomorrow.
Thanks, you two lovely ladies.
We thought it was just the hillside and the grass on fire! I started cussing right when I/we realised it wasn't the hill it was the TRUCK.
We saw this, just leaving San Francisco...
I'm going to ignore the fact you were in San Francisco and didn't say hello.
You know in all the years I've been here I've never been sigged?
I am sorry.
I thought about you! If that counts.
Totally does!
You know in all the years I've been here I've never been sigged?
Irina is a beauty.
Went to the beach.

Climbed this mess

And broke my foot, the bruising is a lot worse now.

Anyone know anything about feet?
As your attorney, my advise to you is to start drinking heavily(er).-Tuffy
Dude. I just broke my foot in a super similar way last month. Just wrap it, keep it stiff and stay off it as much as possible.
You have the health insurance?
You know in all the years I've been here I've never been sigged?
Shit, broken, fuck. I am going to make a docotrs appointment in a day or so.
those whole bottom is swollen and the bruising is crazy, i can put wieght on just the toes. And ya i have insurance but time off work and copays are a pain.

That was one half of mine the next day. Pain in the ass.
You know in all the years I've been here I've never been sigged?
Fuck it, I am getting a cool peg leg.

Word.
You know in all the years I've been here I've never been sigged?
I broke my foot 10 years ago right before I was going to Portland for a month. They put a hard cast on bottom and up the back of my leg, with soft down the front. I was suppose to weAr that for two weeks with crutches. I took it of on day 3. I went to a drugstore and bought a ace bandage and then one of those black kinda hard foot braces, but it was flexible. Used those together for about a week and no crutches. Then just went straight to the black thing only. I wouldn't recommend any of this, because I don't think it healed properly and now it bothers me if I'm on my feet all day. It gets sore and arthritic feeling. Stay off of yours as much as possible. You'll be better off in the long run.
Whatever Whore!

Thanks, it's one of my favourites, but I don't wear it very often because of the big cleavage.

Love those pics Irina.
I want to live in that old casino
I'm pretty sure nobody would kick you out.
But look at Billy.
Billy takes ketamine.
That is what taking buffalo tranquilizers does to a person.
Look at Billy again.
Look at him good and long.
Keep looking until urge to take ketamine passes.
LMAO! I was thinking the same thing. No offense to the dude, but he looks like the bad end of a mop used to clean up MCDonald's-slop.
Billy looks like a mess, Billy is a mess. But all in all Billy is a nice enough guy. Just don't touch him.
As your attorney, my advise to you is to start drinking heavily(er).-Tuffy
And, under no circumstance should you ever lick Billy.
No matter how nicely he asks.
This is why we can't have nice things.
No matter how nicely he asks.
LMAO.. probably sweating out acid and K.
Wait.. maybe I WILL lick Billy!
niece had a photoshoot recently

so did I

“if you want to be a bird,” you said once, “with colorful plumage and buoyant trills, you must also be ready for hollow bones."
What a babe! You're pretty good too Cam.
She's so tiny! and adorable!
My friend is a baby photographer and she takes a lot of photos like that. I'm not sure why they creep me out so hard.
Not that your niece isn't totally cute. Those pictures just freak me out.
You know in all the years I've been here I've never been sigged?
Yay.
But isn't that girl in the "attacked strangers" picture Xia?

Raided my Mother in laws bookshelves the other day. She is 82 and has lots of old books. She said she has Gone With The Wind and wants me to read it. It is her all time favorite book and movie. She thought it was on her bedstand, but it wasnt, so she said she would find it for me. Any of you guys read the ones I have right now? Which do you recommend is the best?
Whatever Whore!
