Martial Arts. Done it for eleven years.

This right here is a picture of me at a tournament. All of the action shots are blurry as hell because my dad screwed up the camera. So you're stuck with this.

writing, reading, music, surfing/publishing on the Net, being clinically depressed.

not necessarily in that order. depends on the day.

Being creative in one way or the other (Sketches, Music, or writing, though I never focus enough in any area to be notably proficient.)

past that...

I..

well this is sort of depressing.

yeah, I really don't have a whole bunch. Reading, writing, I play(ed, haven't picked it up in a little while) the trumpet. Not to brag or anything, but back in the day I played a pretty mean lead in jazz band. Every once in a while I draw, but not as much as I'd like to. Just don't have the nagging interest to. Uh, I kinda play the bagpipes. I backpack a bit. I really like to travel when I get the chance (been to nearly all 50 states). I think that's it.

personally, i think we all have the same interests... sort of... people like us, cultsters, like to read, write, art, and beat people down...
i was wondering too if anybody else was writing a novel or something like that... trying to make a life doing some artsy fartsy sort of thing. Smile Big i'm trying to finish a book and keep voluntarily getting sucked back into this kick ass forum. oh, i draw too... i'll try to post some of the things. Smile Big

I'd be honored to play bagpipes at your funeral. Hell, I won't even wait 'til you're dead if you want. If ever we meet on this long road called life, I'll whip 'em out and blow a tune for you. Smile
And to answer your second question, yeah, it sounds so weird to say it, but I'm working on a book. I recently made the decision to work really hard on it until I'm done so I can hopefully make enough money to be done with school. When I grow up, I wanna be one of those lucky bastards on the commercials telling the kids at home that they should "stay in school," and that I'm the exception to the rule. But it's certainly not all about the money. Just an added benefit really. The main thing I want to do is change people's lives, even just the littlest bit. I mean, hundreds of people are signed up for this forum, thousands have read Chuck's books, thousands more saw Fight Club. If I could even have a fraction of that kind of an impact I would be overjoyed.

kick ass, rents!!! maybe one day we'll meet at one of our book signings!!
i felt kind of strange bringing up the writing thing to begin with, too... but i'm glad i did. i think it's cool that your goals are to inspire and to motivate.. tony robbins is pretty cool in "mr deeds" hehe.
what kind of book is it that you're writing?
i never know what to tell people when they ask me, "what's it about?" i don't want to give anything away and kind of have my hopes set high on it. i can't imagine having anything close to a chuck status. all i'm hoping for mine is to be entertaining to the reader, because if i'm ever interviewed, i'll have to tell them i didn't go to college but for one day and never liked reading until i read fightclub. even though i have the same sort of style as chuck, i know i'm nowhere near the guy. keeping my fingers crossed..... oh.... and publishing will hopefully be easier than people say. Oh man, I hear that. It's all about the original ideas. I mean, I've read some people out there that I SWEAR I can write better than and not because I think I'm great or anything, but because they suck. I'm not really sure how to describe my "book." Like you, I don't wanna give anything away, but in a word, it's about fear. The progession of our society in an era of fear. Yours?

wow. that sounds pretty interesting, just that little bit.
mine is about egos... sort of.
i know what you mean about reading other people's work and thinking it's not good. my main concern is that highly educated people will read it and think it's not wordy (big words) enough and i've worked hard at making it unlike anything chuckish... but i'll hopefully find that out from test readers (which is an idea i got from a chuck article in rolling stone) how elementary it really is.

Yeah, you should also look into getting involved with writing groups/workshops, some place you're really comfortable. I'm trying to get involved with something like that up here, but the only thing I've got right now is my creative writing class that functions as something of a workshop. Once that feature of the site gets going though, I really hope to hear what people have to say.

yeah, non bias opinions are what i need. i remember the first and only day of college, in writing class, the lady told us to write an essay on what we were in college for. i didn't have any supplies but a piece of typing paper and a pen and i hadn't had written anything that long in awhile, so i wrote a single page, smart ass story about how i have a hand cramp among other things... i still wonder what the "professor" thought. rrrrrrrrrip and shread most likely. hehe

I really don't have any hobbies. I mean.. my friends and I just sit and around and do nothing. Because they're all in serious relationships, so they're content to just sit around with their SOs and do nothing. And I get to sit there and envy them and/or wish we could get the fuck up and do something... But oh well. I guess that's why I've started drinking, haha. Blah. Plus side of spraining my ankle - I scored some vicadin. Yey.

Anyhow. I try to write, but I suck at it. I try to sing, but I suck at it. I try to play guitar and bass, but I suck at it. I want to learn how to play the violin more than anything, but I'm poor so I can't afford one, and even if I could, I'd probably suck at it. I've never been good at anything in my entire life, and I'm not just saying this to be down on myself. I seriously have no talents at all, and it's pretty damn depressing. A long time I tried to draw and all that, I'd love to be able to do something with art like that, but I can't at all. My friends plan to make a movie. Maybe I'll discover that I have a knack for acting? Doubt it.

I hate that, disx. The significant others thing. It irritates the piss out of me.

Something I made very, very clear to the girl I'm going out with now is that I refused to allow her to become my life. I've lost at least three friends because they got a girlfriend and devoted themselves exclusively to her, denying all their previous friends, some completely, others almost completely.

So far, it's worked. And someone kill me if I ever stop seeing my friends because I'm too busy with my gf. I care for her deeply, but my friends are the most important thing in the world to me.

And as for talents... I try to have faith in my abilities. I get compliments on my writing, so I at least know I don't suck. Which helps you keep going, I guess.

i mountain bike as much as i can, pretty much every day in the warmer months. ok, if there isn't ice on the ground, i'm on my bike. i like to think i'm pretty good, but there really isn't a way to be bad at it...just stay on the bike and make it to the top/bottom of the trail. having said that, i have bailed (like a billion times); i broke my finger once, and i have a huge scar on my thigh from a goddamned tree branch.

other than that, i enjoy all kinds outdoors stuff: camping, hiking, swimming, canoeing, sailing, etc.

i'm not really into writing, as many of you are. i'm so uncreative, it's almost painful, and i do tons of tons of technical writing during the day, so fuck if i'm going to spend my spare time on it. if i had a good idea, however, i would probably do something with it. i'd rather leave it to the professionals, i.e., reading what other's have written. yeah, so if any of you kids want an unbiased and critical opinion of stuff you've written, send it my way. i've read some of rentster's sonnetts, and they were great Smile

someone mentioned buying assloads of cds...i'm not sure if i consider this a hobby of mine, but i do that, too. i guess the hobby would be listening to live music, and discovering talented folks.

Shit this is depressing. Especially disx's story. One day, I'll buy you a violin. In the mean time, I suppose you could practise sketching and things. It's pretty theraputic, and the more you do it, the more you improve;well, that's what I've found.

I see where your coming from and all. I've got four guitars, and I'm not a legend at it. Pretty average. I got a Bass for my birthday, and the only music I've got for it is I love Rock N Roll (Joan Jett 80s version) which is depressing. So, I should buy some sheet music.

I also sing, well infact,( but I have poor confidence) and am writing a novel. All I do, all in all, is write in my journals and watch movies...and come here.

I'm really getting into Basketball too. I'm going to try and get one of the Sports staff to get a girls basketball team running.

Oh, it's no big deal, really.. I mean, I'm used to it.

I mean, who cares about talents? If I had someone nice to settle down with, being completely untalented wouldn't even be on my mind. Shit, who cares, in that situation... But yeah, I'm still complaining, just on a different subject, now, haha.

But yeah, I mean, I get some compliments on this and that and stuff, but every time I ever do, I just can't help but feel like I'm being patronized. People never seem to want to tell people the truth, they'd rather spare your feelings, and okay, they've got good intentions, but dammit, why fuck around like that? If I believe that crap, then I'll just end up building up some false ego, thinking I'm something I'm not, and one day I realize the truth, and well, it will suck. Terribly.

But I whine way too much. I'll quit.

i love dogs and one day plan to breen hunting and gun dogs. in the meantime i have been researching types of breeds that make for an exceptional hunting / gun dog, a great pet, wonderful with children and other animals. the dutch partridge is the winner. now all i need to do is get on the waiting list to get a few of them to breed.

sadly, our dog, artemis passed away. she was 16.

beyond affections for our canine friends, i enjoy pool, cards, other board games, exercise, jogging, boxing and squash. cooking. love to cook.

Haha. Yeah, i wasn't too big into them, but I liked em. I guess my favorite when I was in that stage was System of a Down, long before Toxicity came out. Blah. Very sub-par album. I still really like the S/T, but they've just gone downhill.

And of course, beloved band of every angsty teen - slipknot. ha. hey, it was fun music. well, the first album. thought the second sucked. or maybe i had gotten out of that phase by then. i dunno.

Smile Big really, i think it rocks.. i used to play backyard baseball and football, but it fell through when everybody had to get jobs and then before i knew it all my friends were married too... had to split from the friends i grew up around and make new ones that like video games and skateboarding sorts of things... it's cool too because if i throw something, they think it's bad ass because none of them got into sports very much, but i lived for that shit until i realized i was standing alone in a field with a ball by myself.

i still think this is a perception thing. you have yet to freak me out, for example. however, i also have yet to meet you in person, so given that you have a talent for freaking people out, maybe in the beginning you were no better than anyone else at it, but you thought you were, which kept you going until this was true.
