Was there a movie about this? Only instead of troops it was actual plants, on a greenhouse on a distant planet. One man had an eagle and then he left or died or jetisoned himself off to die in space but not before leaving a robot there to take care of the plants forever. It was a 60s movie about preserving the environment and plants and how people will die but plants should go on forever with technology and eagles or something.

I'd do an I'm leaving thread but everyone knows that isn't gonna happen, you can't even kill me off I'm like Cher and cockroaches. My sister had a turtle once but she didn't water it and it dehydrated and stuck to the bottom of its house or whatever, my mother would yell at me everytime I pointed out that it was dead.
