So what? They're sad, ignorant people, too. And perhaps he does talk more bullshit than you, but there's a difference between being deceived by someone else and being deceived by yourself. The latter is just one of the saddest things ever. It's the case with most religious people, in my opinion. (Note: Some people have got religion figured out, but most of them have no such luck.)

People do it all the time. They do something and then they need a reason for it. And so they create this arbitrary reason. And they build it up, and they build it up, and they build it up... Eventually, they become so convinced that nobody can open their eyes to the truth - to the fact that they're clinging to a lie.
