I Want to Learn to Surf Internationally
We really need a Travel forum.
Anyway I decided that I'm going to save up my tip money so I can take a trip somewhere outside of the states. It's been too long not being able to go on these amazing trips for some reason or another. I missed out on going to Europe, Cancun, and Thailand and now I have a passport that is going to expire soon.
International culties, there are a few of you I would like to visit but I want to see who is up for the challenge of being my tour guide.
I want to have a genuine experience of the culture through a resident's perspective and not a tourist's.

Post your applications here. Also if you don't live outside of the states but would want to travel with me somewhere can apply as well. (You can post here for fun to play out what a trip with me would be like but I am definitely planning a trip)
Lottery? A trip to Romania is about a week's worth of tips.
This is why we can't have nice things.
Who makes a thousand bucks in tips in ONE WEEK?
My bartender?
This is why we can't have nice things.
Good for him. Hanging around this place is pretty cheap, but the getting here is the problem.
Her.
DUH.
This is why we can't have nice things.
Oh, figures.
Goddamn right.
She's going to Reykjavik.

Any trip to North Europe is a good trip, I'd say. Those people are the most civilised.
If I went traveling I wouldn't be looking for the civilized people.
I should get a job as a bartender.
I might live in Norway, but I still feel like a tourist sometimes.
I've been making on average 60 dollars in tips a day and that's because it's been slow.
Hope business picks up soon and she still needs me to work. Today it sounded like I might end up out of a job. It's really frustrating.
By the way I need your advice on where to go and why peoples!
You should go to Australia. Because it's awesome.
And I dunno if you actually want to surf, but you can do that there too!
I would love to go to Australia but what is there to do there besides surf? Come kit some details. Tell me of all the local spots worth going to.
Australia sounds amazing. I don't understand why so many of their young countrymen move to London though.
Boyfriend and I are planning on going to California for 3 weeks at Easter. I have been planning this trip every year since 2005 so I really, really hope nothing is going to fuck it up for me this time.
I hope you guys make it to cali this year too. Do you know what area of California?
Definitely San Francisco, LA and the Central Coast. (I know, I'm a big fat tourist!)
If I could also fit in the going to the desert, that'd be cool but I don't want to have to rush around everywhere too much. I definitely need to go through my guide books and make some lists.
What do you think?
Depends on how much time you have and how long you want to be in the desert and when you want to visit.
I spent easter week in Death Valley once. I liked it.
This is why we can't have nice things.
And you didn't die!
Just found out that state schools only have two weeks holiday at Easter (at private school we used to have 3), so we'd only have 2 weeks, which is a bit lame. Maybe we'd be better off going in the summer, where we could have a month (but at summer holiday prices, grr).
Being in a relationship with a teacher is so very annoying!
Hattie, every time I hear about holidays in the UK I think you guys are so lucky. In university we got TWO DAYS for Easter - the Friday before and the Monday after - and schools used to get 2 weeks, back when I was like 10. They get a week now, and this year apparently we have one week, too. Two weeks for Christmas and no spring break. Just a week between the semesters, in February.
What does he teach?
Art.
Yes, that's pretty tough! Never working for a US firm either. I get 25 days paid annual leave at my work, which is about average in the UK. Boyfriend gets 57.
That's awesome! We get the same, I mean people who work. 3 weeks annual leave, plus holidays.
I spent almost a whole February near there in '94--not the best time I ever had.
Star Wars had just come out. I mostly made pretend that jawas were gonna get me.

I keep reading this as "I Want to Learn to Smurf Internationally"
I keep imagining her surfing off across the seven seas to visit distant lands.
Well duh.
Seriously though I need some help. If not I'm just gonna go to some tropical island and forget about you guys for a couple weeks.
Well since none of you have been much help at helping me decide on where to visit I think I'm caving in and booking my trip to Hawaii for Christmas. My friend is going to have a beach house on the north shore and I guess I'm finally going to learn how to literally surf. I have to see if I'm going to be able to take some time off work and see how many days I need to stay at a hotel or crash at my other friend's place during the days I plan on being there.

If you ever win the lottery, you can visit me. I'll be your guide.
