I need advice about internet and TV service.
Right now I'm paying about $125 a month with Comcast for internet and TV. If i cancel my cable TV I'll be paying about $60 a month. I'm looking at switching to AT&T dsl internet, but I don't know if it will be as good. Not that anything about comcast is really good, but as long as my internet is working, its fast. I can get internet from them for $47 a month. If I decide to get TV I can get directTV for a total of about $90 a month. I don't watch a lot of TV, so I can do without it, but I have a really nice tv and i do like to be able to order movies and whatnot.
I'm mostly concerned about latency issues. I don't want inconsistent or just all around shitty speed.
Do any of you use AT&T? How has your experience with them been?

When I had AT&T DSL it was pretty reliable and fast. I've had more outages/problems through Time Warner, adn I wish AT&T served my area.
i have att uverse. i love it. cant recommend it enough.i have the basic broadband speed and that's fast enough for my use. i have the basic 200 service with hd channels. and three cell lines. i think with all, we are paying 158

oh, and in a year, we've not had one problem. not one. i used to have to call comcast at least once a month to ask when service would be back on.
i'd choose dsl over concast, because it is much more reliable. but i would definitely go with uverse if you can get it..

Right know I'm sitting at my desk at Comcast...due to a whole mess of legal issues i cant directly discuss much, and being that they monitor our computers let me just say,
The only reason i have my current internet services is because they are provided to me for free.
i had at&t ages ago at an apartment i lived in, and it was very reliable. when i moved and jumped to comcast, i noticed a big leap in my download speeds - from 200kbps download combined, across all activity, to being able to download 2500kbps at once across all downloads. i don't know if it was just low end at&t at the apartment, but as someone who streams or downloads whatever i watch, the speed bump was huge for me. i turn on the tv twice a year, maybe. that said, comcast is terrible when it comes to reliability, at least in my area. i call them every other month, if not every month, regarding outages and fighting for credits on the bill to compensate for them.

most of what i'm reading here is promising, thats nice.
Anyone who plays MMOs on ATT or other DSL? Cause I play and having ms go up and down is really frustrating. I am generally at about 40-60ms which is better than almost everyone I know, as long as I HAVE service.

If it were available here I would jump on it. Alas, it isn't

Yes, it very much does, but there's a place that has dollar beers on my lunch break, and that makes things a little better. But in all reality all you really need to do is bitch and complain and chances are they will lower your bill in one way or another. Or just say fuck it and go find a far better provider that doesn't rape you on a regular basis. Not that this fine company i work for would ever do such a thing.

I tried that. Apparently on demand sucking balls and never working is not a concern to anyone. and since its free, they can't make any adjustment to a bill based on its suckage. The fact that its the reason I ever got their crap service is unimportant.

ya... I can tell you that a lot of competitors to this life stealing company will match and beat Com cast prices.
I, more or less, get my internet for free and even i think i am paying too much. Unfortunately Comcast does have one of the fastest internet upload speeds, but you also don't need these speeds to play most if not all games online.

i play WoW on DSL and there's the occasional lag in dalaran but that's about it. however, when i played it on my wi-fi, it would disconnect a minimum of once per hour so i had to plug in an ethernet cable and now it never disconnects. i can play it on my brother's broadband wireless though (comcast) and it never disconnects.

This one apartment complex that we lived in - we could either get their shitty service or AT&T. So we went with AT&T.
It wasn't as fast as Comcast. But it wasn't that much slower. Most of the time it wasn't that noticeable. Maybe if you download a lot of stuff it would be - I don't know. I can say that it was never down and we didn't call and complain once. Where I call and complain to Comcast quite a bit in comparison.
