You've just been burned by fire. What do you do? Well, here are your options:

1.) Extinquish the flames and never bring it back. (The Military)

2.) Convince yourself the flame didn't really exist. (The Conspiracist)

3.) Blame the person who started the flame. (The Ignorant)

4.) Learn to live with the flame and eventually become one with it. (The Naturalist)

5.) Run away from the flame. (The Coward)

6.) Respect the flame's influence because in the end, a flame will always be hot. (The Citizen)

7.) Invent tools that will make you immune to the flame. (The Scientist)

8.) Dull yourself on pain relievers to numb the pain brought on by flame. (The Junkie)

Which approach will you take to change the obvious problem?

I choose numbers 1, 6, and 7.

Approach #9: Shut the fuck up.

You seemed to have left out "The Imperialist" in which we go and chase down flames that aren't even a threat to us in the name of "Global Democracy."

I'm assuming us getting burned was the terrorist attack of two years ago. Terrorist. Do you think for a second that eliminating Iraq is going to stop terrorism or even put a dent in it for that matter?

Bush is still riding the tide of 9/11 so he can finish what his father started 3 terms ago. The problem is, we know better than that.

Destroying flames is #1... there is no "Imperialist" choice. The losers of military actions call the victors "Imperialists".

Wrong. Don't assume. This is not a response to Iraq, just a question to see how YOU choose to change things in your life. What do you select?
9.) Should not have set the fire in the first place
Not a choice. Weather the fire was set by you or someone else, it has been set - and you've been burned. Time to make a choice.

Choice 10) Throw electric cords into the fire! And then water!

Yeah, self destruction is masturbation. Is that the right line?

Actually your #7 is wrong. A scientist will try to find out why the fire is burning and how it started. At that point the scientist will try to find a logical and reasonable solution to put out the fire if that is desired.

I think this is all wrong. All these people would put out the fire by hitting it, or, if water was at hand, either put water(i.e. a glass of water) on it, or get into the water(i.e. a pool). The only person who wouldn't do something along those lines is either parlyzed from the (if this is possible) jaw down, or is dead.

Assuming that the flame is a conflict of some sort within my life I dont believe that I would choose any of the options given. If I were forced to, I would choose number 4. Given the choice to use an option of my choosing I would: 1) Extinguish the flame to prevent further damage. 2) Compare the burnt and healthy portions of my body. 3) Realize upon analyzation that conflict is unnavoidable and even necessary. Necessary in that there will always be contrasting elements within any life. Life is nothing with out death. In the end I will appreciate the flame for the black and charred skin it has left behind makes the rest look all the whiter. (Now good luck placing me in a group)

Of course! But the American public didn't see it, and the US government didn't it take it seriously, or notice it.

This is why the war with Iraq is going on. To save money, get money and oil, and defend itself.

lol, listen up little mr. illogical. you just don't get it do you? what we're doing over there is not right. that's it. there's no "defending ourselves", there's no "getting oil", and there is no "saving money". the people in power got pissed off, and decided to wage war on a country that wasn't deserving of it at the time. all of your rationalizations do not make it ok, right, necessary or however you put it. that has been pointed out to you time and time again. you need to pull your head out of your xenophobic ass and be intelligent about it.

That's so rich coming from a nationalist racist, that claims he's not a nazi.

"The grabbing hands grab all they can
all for themselves - after all
It's a competitive world
Everything counts in large amounts"

Whats next? It's okay for the US to come to take our water, because they need it, or just to be sure?

Ill Rich, get enlisted. Maybe you grow up.

And to answer your orginal question: 1 and 8.

yep yep yep...i have "101" so i'm a greatest-hits lamer...but oh well.

anyways. i couldn't resist this, even though i know it's going to bring on an avalanche of bullshit.

HOW TO CHANGE THINGS

by ill Rich:

#1. seek out a forum (it may be virtual or in-person) in which you know your opinion will cause disagreement. for example, if you are conservative, go to a liberal activist meeting and try to stir things up. or, if you are a conservative, you also have the option with today's technology to visit the fan site for an author whose works are known to promote individualism and/or anarchy.

#2. enter this forum, and begin spewing extreme ideas. fight tirelessly (physically if necessary) with anyone who disagrees. if you are proven wrong, pretend not to notice. Compare anyone who disagrees with/argues with you to Hitler, no matter how far away their idealogy. when all else fails, accuse them of being of the opposite poltical viewpoint (if you are a conservative, call them a liberal) with all the venom you can muster. insist that attaching what has traditionally been a neutral political label to someone is an insult, and attach any unbecoming ideas to the label, regardless of reality.

#3. many forum members will become exhausted after a while, or simply dazzled by your stunning display of determination. assure them that you are here for their own good, to "help them help themselves." remind yourself that this is a (idealogically, at least) "war of liberation."

#4. at this point you must take the lead. start your own discussion. this is when you really need to preach to the people. here's one way: set a little idealogical trap for them. offer them a series of solutions to existential problems. however, label them either arbitrarily or in accordance with your own views. make the terms as vague as possible, and call the option you predict most of the people in the discussion will choose "the ignorant." this will show them the error of their ways, once and for all. if anyone objects to this, report steps #2 and #3 as necessary.

Disposable Latex Gloves should be worn to prevent infection whenever contact
with open wounds or body fluids is possible.

An approved resuscitation face mask should be used when attempting
resuscitation. Persons using this mask should have received recent training in
its use.

A burn refers to the damage caused to body tissues by heat, chemicals,
electricity or radiation.

Step 1: Immediate Action

- Ensure safety for the first aid person and bystanders.
- Remove the injured person to a safe environment if possible
- Give priority care to airway, breathing and circulation.
- Cool the burnt area with cold water for 10 minutes to limit tissue damage
and relieve pain.

NB: Hypothermia may result from excessive cooling of a large burn with cold
water.

- Remove any constricting items from the area surrounding the
burn, where practicable.
- Cover the burnt area with a loose and light dressing,
preferably sterile.
- Elevate burnt limbs.
- Do not break blisters.
- Do not peel off clothing or other substances stuck to the
skin.
- Do not apply any lotion, ointment, cream or powder.

Step 2: Subsequent Action

Most types of burns require prompt medical assessment. Refer to doctor or
hospital without delay. The method of transport will depend on the severity of
the burn. When in doubt, always call an ambulance. Some minor burns may be
given first aid treatment using items from an approved first aid kit.
Caution: Always seek medical advice where any doubt exists.

Types of Burns - Specific Actions

Inhalation (airway burn)

- The injured person may develop breathing difficulty due to
inhalation of hot gases or fumes.
- Oxygen should be given if available.
NB: First aid personnel may administer oxygen only if they hold
a current Occupational First Aid Certificate.
- Medical assessment is essential because breathing
difficulties may develop hours or days later.

Scald

- Remove all hot wet clothing as soon as possible because it
retains the heat.
NB: Avoid pulling hot wet clothing across the person's face.

- Check the natural body creases, e.g., neck and groin to
ensure that hot liquid is not retained.
- Arrange for prompt medical assessment.

Flames

- STOP, DROP & ROLL THE PERSON TO PUT OUT THE FLAMES

- Smother the flames with blanket, coat or other appropriate
items.
- Keep the person lying on the ground or floor.
- Remove smouldering clothing which is not stuck to the skin.
NB: Avoid pulling smouldering clothing across the person's
face.
- Arrange for prompt medical assessment.

Electrical

- Disconnect the power source from the injured person where it
is possible and safe to do so.
- Check airway, breathing and circulation.
- Commence resuscitation if required.
- Look for 'entry' and 'exit' burns.
- Seek urgent medical assessment.
NB: These burns are always more severe than they first appear.

Lightning

- Check airway, breathing and circulation.
- Commence resuscitation if required.
- Treat any other injuries.
- Seek urgent medical assessment.

Chemical (Corrosives - solids and liquids)

- Flood the burnt area with water for at least 15 minutes.
- Flush eye burns thoroughly with water for at least 15
minutes, including under eyelids. Hold eyelids apart if
necessary.
- Remove contaminated clothing as soon as possible.
NB: First aid personnel should avoid contact with any contaminated material.
- Identify the chemical whenever possible.
NB: Specific first aid information and requirements should be provided,
according to Material Safety Data Sheets.

- Keep phosphorus burns (flares, etc) wet at all times
- preferably immersed in water.
- Remove phosphorus particles only with forceps. Do Not Use
Fingers.
- Treat bitumen and molten plastic burns as follows:
- cooling must continue until the substance is cold; - Do not
attempt to remove from the skin or eyes;
- When medical assistance is delayed and the limb is completely
encircled, split the substance lengthwise as it cools.
- Seek urgent medical assessment.

Radiation

- Seek prompt medical assessment for the following burns:
lasers;
industrial microwave equipment;
nuclear radiation;
ultra-violet or infra-red rays.
