I've heard his music, and always thought that he had an american accent, but it's hard to tell, because it's not uncommon for the accents to be lost in singing. Plus, I've never been truly sure where he grew up, and how he sounded outside the songs.
I think he means the new song has something to do with hammers, knives or pliers.
