Being ignored or going unnoticed. My gf just asked me, 'I thought it was Failure?' - which is what I've told her in the past. It -used- to be that, but I've gotten used to failure.
Which living person do you most admire?

What is the trait you most deplore in yourself?
My ability to quickly give in to fear.
What is your greatest extravagance?
Wishing I was somewhere else. I spend most of my life doing that. I spend the most money doing that, too. I mean, what else are movies, books and computer games for?
What do you dislike most about your appearance?
I wish I had blue eyes.
Which living person do you most despise?
That girl who won't talk to me. My 'despising' of people is pretty short-lived, generally, and only ever over petty things. I always forget about the whole despising thing when next I see them, too.
What is your most treasured possession?
My ring. It's a pure gold serpent that wraps around your finger, with rubies for eyes. It was made in India in the 1950s, one of a kind, especially for my grandfather. It's our only family heirloom.
It is also the only thing that I would hunt down to the ends of the Earth, and take a human life over.
What do you regard as the lowest depth of misery?
Television.
Where would you like to live?

How would you like to die?
Saving lots of people's lives, or taking lots of people's lives.
What is your motto?
Never delude yourself. Delude the guy next to you.
What is your greatest fear?
Dying alone. Actually, I don't know. It's a toss up between that and the thought of etenity. Maybe it's just me, but there is something absolutely fucking terrifying about eternity. I just can't deal with it. It freaks me the fuck out. I just flip out when I really start thinking about it. God, I'm getting chills already.. Bleh.
Which historical figure do you most identify with?
Heh. Nietzsche, maybe. More than anything because of this little quote:
"The last philosopher I call myself, for I am the last human being. No one converses with me beside myself and my voice reaches me as the voice of one dying. With thee, beloved voice, with thee, the last remembered breath of all human happiness, let me discourse, even if it is only for another hour. Because of thee, I delude myself as to my solitude and lie my way back to multiplicity and love, for my heart shies away from believing that love is dead. It cannot bear the icy shivers of loneliest solitude. It compels me to speak as though I were Two."
I find that so beautiful. And I can completely relate to all of it. Especially the 'speaking as if I were Two' thing. It's strange, I dunno...
Which living person do you most admire?
Oh ghee, I dunno. I'm admiring Tim Robbins a lot at the moment.
What is the trait you most deplore in yourself?
Apathy, I suppose. It's so easy not to care, but I want to so much. But then I don't... Ah, the joys of being torn between wanting to be this ultimate humanitarian and then wanting to just bring the whole fucking world to its knees. Not because I feel I've been wronged or anything, but just because we're all so fucking stupid and shitty. All of us, we're a bunch of fucking twats. Ugh.
What is your greatest extravagance?
None, really. I mean, I don't spend money on anything at all really, I'm poor. Although I spend a lot of time downloading music, looking for new bands, going to shows and trying to teach myself how to play different instruments, but yeah... Not really much money involved in that, thxu internet.
On what occasion do you lie?
Rarely. Pretty much exclusively to 'figures of authority'. I seriously can't remember the last time I ever lied to a friend. I'm known as the absolutely brutally honest guy in my little group I guess, heh.
What do you dislike most about your appearance?
All of the above?
Which living person do you most despise?
Most of the politicians in our government today. And the people running the corporations that control them. And everyone how just follows along. Everyone that plays the fucking game and looks out for #1 and says to hell with the rest of the world. These people are in a position to affect real change. They really could change the world for the better. They could, for once in their fucking lives, stand up for something noble. And sure, maybe they'll just get mowed down, like so many of the few that have the courage to stand up do, but god dammit. At least try. If you're in a position to do something, fucking do it. Please. Maybe one day I'll be there, it's what I'm aiming for. And dammit, I do not intend to sit idly by while this world continues going further down the hole.
What is your greatest regret?
Suppose like Rents said, not trying harder in high school. I'm fairly confident I could have gotten a scholarship to Rice University, and damn, that would have been wonderful. Instead I'm stuck at a Community College thx to my parents divorcing, thx to me not preparing, thx to a lack of motivation.
Who or what is the greatest love of your life?
Nobody. I don't know love. Whoever coined the term 'hopeless romantic' had me in mind. For sure.
Which talent would you most like to have?
Any would do, seeing as I have none at all. Seriously. Although I guess singing would be my top pick. God I'd love to sing, would really be nice.
If you could change one thing about your family, what would it be?
I guess I'd have my parents back together. I mean, it never affected me emotionally, because I just kind of detached myself from it. I dunno, I've always been totally detached from my family, almost like they don't even exist. They're just some people I live with. And I feel shitty about it, but the main reason I'd want them back together is because if they were, I'd at least be going to UT right now, instead of Tomball College. Ugh. I'm so fucking selfish.
If you could choose what to come back as, what would it be?
Anyone that doesn't end up spending their entire life alone.
What is your most treasured possession?
Freedom? Heh, I guess.
What do you regard as the lowest depth of misery?
Not sure about this one either, the meaning of the question, that is... If it's "what's the most horrible trait out there" I'd have to say I'm torn between greed and stupidity.
Where would you like to live?
Ireland.
What is the quality you most like in a man?
Like Kitty said, honesty and a sense of humor.
What is the quality you most like in a woman?
Oh, so hard to pick. I'll just list some nice things. Pretty face, thin figure, reasonable, open-minded, relatively intelligent, modest... I've got a thing for shy/sad chicks, too. I dunno, something terribly attractive about a girl that's got some huge problem, but doesn't make a big deal out of it. Just kind of quietly accepts it. I guess it's cos I wanna be her savior. Heh. I just want to be the guy that some nice little girl knows she can always depend on, I'll always be there for her... You know?
What is it that you most dislike?
Being alone.
How would you like to die?
Well I've got this interesting little fantasy. About me and my girl being eh, serial killers, ok, so that's lame and overdone, but there's something really sexy about it. And I guess, when we know we're finally gonna be caught, at the end, when there's no chance to get away anymore, we just make love, and then we kill each other.. I dunno, it's stupid I guess. But I like it... Kind of inspired by a Wumpscut song - Thorns:
"and while embraced by death
they sing so fine than never
and while embraced by death
they stay in love forever"

my dead teddy bear friend, here is a recipe for german potato salad that has been handing down for ages in my family:
speck - crispy bacon for those of you who don't know what speck is.
red potatoes (bliss, new, etc) quartered and par boiled
leeks - trimmed
celery seed - trust me
dijon mustard - i know it's french
fresh mayonnaise
sautee speck until crisp, add leeks and continue sauteeing until leeks are softened. remove, drain and add to the par boiled potato quarters; add 1 tsp celery seed. stir in 1/4 cup mustard and eyeball the mayo. you don't need a lot. chill for as long as you can stand.
i can't eat it because it's odor is repugnant. i have never gotten past the odor to actually taste it. and the idea of a hot potato salad, just doesn't sit right with me.
and jane, i'm with you on the dying part.
no, no, no. this is a COLD potato salad. no odor because of the moutard. still, it's damn good.
celery seed salad dressing is tops.
hmm, maybe i'll have to give it a go.

I just identify with everything he's ever written about writing, God, relationships, art, the importance of experience and reflection....
Letters to a Young Poet is my bible. I can't believe it was written before I was born. It feels like Rilke scooped out my soul with a big soup spoon and typed it up into words.
And his poetry!
From 'Requiem For A Friend' (1909)
When somewhere, from deep within me, there arises
the vivid sense of having been a child,
the purity and essence of that childhood
where I once lived: then I don't want to know it.
I want to form an angel from that sense
and hurl him upward, into the front row
of angels who scream out, reminding God.
For this suffering has lasted far too long;
none of us can bear it; it is too heavy-
From Bowl of Roses (1907)
And aren't all that way: simply self containing,
if self containing means: to transform the world outside
and the wind and the rain and the patience of spring
and guilt and restlessness and muffled fate
and the darkness of the evening earth
and even the changing and flying and fleeing of the clouds
and the vague influence of the distant stars
into a handful of inwardness

nine, i don't fast. unless i feel the need to purge my system in a healthful manner. keneffles are the same as spaetzel, just somehow they got termed differently in my family line. i didn't know that such a simple recipe could vary. i do on the other hand have the recipe for celery seed dressing (great on egg rolls and salads). back at ya' in a few with that one.
you da man. thanks.
fastnachts are a yeast dessert that are fried like doughnuts and filled with jelly. my oma used to make them every year for good friday.
oh yea, very tasty. that's what i get for trying to speed read, thought you were referring to just plain old fasting. do you eat pork chops, sauerkraut, and speatzel on new years for good luck? tradition in my family at it's best.

celery seed dressing. have got to try that. any brands you'd recommend?
mirkah - or, my dear mr. klappus, yeah LTYP, rules. and, rilke's poetry, especially in the original german, is marvelous. have you read the panther? will think about the red cabbage recipe. have one for regular cabbage, but give me half a mo.
yeah, Der Panther. First thing I thought of when I read the Hunger Artist by Kafka.
....Then an image enters,
goes through the taut stillness of the limbs,
and is extinguished in the heart.
I'd love to read it in the original German. It looks so great with all the nouns capitalized...
Wir gehen tanzen und trinken, ja. Is pretty much all the German I know...
Oh, und "rauchen sie, bitte. Heben sie Fuer" (sp)
ok, here's celery seed dressing, the do-it-yourself version.
Celery Seed Dressing
1 cup Sugar
1 1/2 tsp. Salt
1 1/2 tsp. Paprika
1 1/2 tsp. Instant Onion
1/2 cup Ketchup
1/2 cup Vinegar
1 1/2 tsp. Celery Seed
1 1/2 cup Water
Blend all of the above in blender then reduce speed and add 1 1/2 cup Salad Oil. (refridgerate)
and here's the family version (i guess probably the most basic) of speatzel.
Knieffles
1 1/2 cups Flour
1 tsp. Salt
1 Egg
Put egg in center of flour and salt mixture and mix well. Then begin adding small amounts of water until the dough gathers all together. Knead dough on counter until it is a smooth dough ball. Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil then begin breaking small bits of dough into the boiling water. Continue until all the dough is broken into the boiling water and cook until tender. Drain and put a little bit of butter on and mix through.

Cynism, pessimism... They're just dirty words people use to make realists look bad.
You know, I LIKE my motto. Just because I didn't have one about Salisbury Steak, cooking spicy dishes...mugh.

that's an excellent motto and quite true. i remember the tour.
trypd - we have pork chops, cabbage, spaetzel weekly. never realized that is was a good luck meal. for new year's, oder silvester, we always have fish. when my grandmother was alive she'd melt lead and have us pour the molten metal into a bucket of cold water; then she'd read us our fortunes. this was a blast and i want to continue the tradition, but unless you're a plumbing is damned difficult to get lead.
mirkah - have you read HUnger by knut hamsen. great stuff for the struggling writer in all of us. excellent film too.

you know, i just realize we admire most the same person, the dahli llama. why do YOU feel that way?
I am usually a pretty peaceful person, but the kind of grace and peace he showed under pressure during the Chinese takeover of Tibet was like nothing I'd ever heard about before. He would not fight. He would not compromise his religion and the lives of his people over soil. And all these years later, he is still peace-loving. A lesser person would have become jaded and would have convinced the US or the EU to help him go fight the Chinese to get tibet back.
FREE TIBET!!
There is hope, but not for us.

No, but I'll check it out. Thanks!
you know, jane s., if you believe in six degrees of separation, you're not that far away from him. i think his worldview is the one we all need to adopt if we're going to get along with all kinds of people. strangely, i don't recall hi sattitude towards the war in iraq. i can only guess, though.
Six degrees of separation? Like the Kevin Bacon game?!

There is hope, but not for us.
Yep, like the game based on the movie in fact. Great, great movie.
I'm only 2 degree's away from the Dali Lama but I'm not allowed to say how. I'll get someone in trouble .
