February Photos... Leap Year Celebration! _-NOT-_
now you're all just saying any fucking name!
i was supposed to look like a better looking version of jesus.
i was supposed to look like a better looking version of jesus.
You're not JEWISH!
that's why i said better.
You just zinged JESUS?!
No one stand next to Matt for the next few days!
I love the Jews

You remind me of the best friend from I Love You, Man in this photo...except with long hair.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOO.
I love Jason Segel. I don't see it! I can't pin who I think he looks like, I think you just have one of those recognisable faces, Matt.
Look what my boything got me for valentines day!:

This thing looks tiny, right? It's not. There's so much fruit on that goddamn thing. So much chocolate-y layers. It's YUMMO, but this motherfucker costs about a 100 bucks, maybe a bit more. I dunno. He wont tell me how much it costs.

It has strawberries dipped in chocolate, pineapple hearts, red grapes, and bananas half dipped in milk chocolate other half dipped in white chocolate (let me tell you, when they're frozen, they're GODLY.)

Needless to say, I can't stop eating the stuff. I've never felt so healthy eating so much chocolate before.
This has to be the best chocolate I ever had too. I'm not a chocolate snob, but my mom is, and she agreed. The stuff is delicious. It's like.. rich, but not ohgodmystomachhurts rich, but not exactly cheap and easy like Hershey's.
Want some fruit?
well, me and onyx are officially engaged as of early today.
yes i proposed in a graveyard it was one place we went on our first date.

nothing is as perfect as you can imagine it.
it's spelled YUM-O.
My bad. I have terrible english skills.
I always thought Go Fish was called Gold Fish until I tried asking boything to play it with me. He got really confused and corrected me, "It's Go Fish, sweetie."
I inspire really bad engrish.
I'm working on it, though, I promise!

I find this very sweet and romantic. Though I hope to never be proposed to, if it were to happen a graveyard scene would more than likely make me say "Yes!"
Congratualtions!

Moar ring pictures! From what I can see, you chose a very pretty one.
You guys are a cute couple, congrats!
Do you plan on getting married soon, or just waiting awhile and such?

this makes my present look kinda lame. this is what i got her:
it was more expensive than you'd think 2 flowers would be though...

I think they're beautiful! Personally, I would've been happier if boything got me just a flower. Cheaper, and I could've kept it around for decoration instead of consuming it.
What kind of flowers are those anyway?
i forget exactly, some kind of orchid. i'm not into roses, everyone does roses. and i didn't feel like giving her candy because i didn't want her to think i thought she was fat or something like that. i don't know, i remember i had a good reason for not going for candy.
Orchids are beautiful flowers! I'd love to own some in my garden. I agree, roses are overdone, I don't particularly care for them myself.
I have to admit, I've never met a girl that's received chocolate and thought "Do.. you think I'm fat?"
Ah well.
If you throw in a couple of candles, sexy music, and a poem or something I think you're good to go.
By the way, I notice you live in Texas. What part?
oh they're being delivered to her at work, can't really do candles there. it seriously took me days to pick those out. anyway, i live down by houston, just north of it. i run back and forth between houston and dallas though, and sometimes austin. but i don't have enough friends in austin yet to stay there for free so i don't go there much.
congrats zoth! all good things to you and onyx!

Congratulations! I am so happy for you. The graveyard all snowy and everything is so cool. What did you say exactly!?

haha, cupcake, you love your fruit. Very sweet of your boyfriend.
S, VERY classy. Orchids are beautiful and so fragile looking. I really like the orchids, and I like that you didn't go with roses.
All three are very impressive, but the chessboard is amazing! How long did that take you to make?
I'm not done sanding the top of the chessboard, so right now it's still a little uneven, but probably only about 4 hours, so not too bad. Each of the chess pieces probably takes about an hour, so it'll take awhile to make a whole set.

That's very cool. How long have you been whittling? Do you do any carpentry also?
That is REALLY damn awesome. Did you ever figure out how to do knights?
ALSO, Cuppycake, this is for you:

CONGRATULATIONS ZOTH AND ONYX! Graveyard proposal, very cool.
Cupcake, your chocolate and fruit gift is awesome. I'm currently nibbling on caramel sweethearts, chocolates with crispy bits and a hint of fruit.

The chess pieces are actually done on a lathe, not whittled. i know everyone got a big kick out of the discount lathe ads up awhile back, but some people actually do do lathe work. I just started whittling, as in the pipe, because I'm going to have to do the knight that way, since I can't do it on the lathe, and I need some practice first.
I've done a bit of carpentry, built a few decks, and a bunch of furniture. I couple of coffee tables and chairs, some cabinets, that sort of stuff.

ha, so YOU were responsible for the lathe ads!
Very cool stuff that you can make.
One of my brother's is a master carpenter, and now a general contractor. I think it's so cool that he built his own house, not to mention his own bed and a crib for his babies, and a rocking chair for his wife. Funny, he started making money from carpentry when he was 13 by building and selling awesome doghouses...like with skylights, and/or swinging doors. He made one with a stained glass window!
You could lathe the bottom and middle hourglass shape of the piece first though, and then wittle the top if you left it a block, couldn't you?

I've actually been looking to try to make some money selling things, but can't figure out how really. I've sold some jewelry boxes I've made, but only to friends and family. I was thinking of trying to make some adirondack chairs in the the spring and sell them, but like I said, I'm not sure where to sell them.

Yeah, that's what I plan on doing, I just have to get around to it. My whittling so far is mediocre at best.

I don't know where you live, but flea markets are great for selling things like that. Maybe MonkeyMike can build you a website (to be paid for once you sell a mess of stuff!)
You could make things on demand, too.My brother did that with his doghouses once word got out, people would tell him what they wanted and he'd sketch it, get it approved and make it. OHH, the other thing that he sold and people went crazy for are butcher blocks. Like on wheels. He made them for the person's specific height, with how many shelves drawers, hooks etc they wanted.
You can sell at flea markets, but sure to have cards that say 'Custom work on demand".
set up a shop on etsy. i've a couple friends who make a fair amount selling everything from handmade clothing to toys to jewelry. if it's hand made, you can sell it there.

Yeah, I've considered flea markets, but the flea markets around here aren't the nicest. So I don't think I'd be able to really make a profit doing them, but I may give it a shot anyway. I'm in the central New Jersey area. Good idea about the website though.

Etsy would probably work better than a personal website. It's got the whole built-in community vibe. That and eBay. And you can make an account on WhittlingFetishists.com, if such a thing exists.
Damn, Nick. I'm way impressed. They look super good.
Tom, your apartment looks great. My walls are actually the same color, but I inherited it that way, I didn't paint it myself, but I like it a lot! And it's the same color as my cupboard oven! (Sorry, for posting these in two threads.)The color doesn't come out strong enough in the photo, tho.

Thanks! It is a pretty sweet color. Lighter than I thought it was going to be before I painted, but it worked out. It's very relaxing.
Also, that is an awesome oven.
Zoth!!! Congrats, man! More POIDH.
Haha, just kidding. Of course it happened. But seriously. Pics.

I think it's really relaxing, too. I like the red that you paired it with. Both pop out. I wish I'd thought of that, I have cream colored curtains. They match, but not in a striking way, a kinda boring way.
I LOVE my oven, thanks!
@mirka Your cupboard oven is the coolest thing I've ever seen. I've never seen a house with one of those!
I took the apartment mostly because the oven enchanted me so much. But I like a lot of things about it, it's roomy and has an enormous balcony and stuff. But THE OVEN is like something out of a fairy tale to me.
everything in these last pages has been good. Nick, i'm impressed. Congratulations on engagement!! Houses and ovens look nice. what else?

BEHOLD. MY NEW WORKPLACE.

See those things that look like brown dots in the flagstones? They're carved wooden BABY FACES. And the posts holding up the mantle are basically the exact same faces, only more adult-y looking.
I also just went onto my boss' facebook and tagged them as "creepy baby faces."
There is hope, but not for us.

The curtains are actually dark brown when light isn't coming through them. So I can't take credit for that, even though you're right - they do look reddish with the light behind them. But that was by accident. But in normal lighting, it's dark brown with circles of the same shade of green as the walls and a baby blue that matches the flecks in the shag rug. Yeah...I made everything super coordinated. hehe
