Do you watch anime?
Latest series I'm watching right now is called "GTO - Great Teacher Onizuka". It's hysterical.

I have Volumes 1-4 on DVD so far. Definitely give it a try if you like drama/comedy anime.

Yes it is, but it seems to me that Anime fans seem to think it is all great. I don't know how many times I have been told a movie is great and it was horrible. Not just the story, but the art as well.

There are fans like that in all forms of entertainment. They like everything under the sun esps what the critics tell them to like (coughbrocklanderscough).
I have a dislike for them too. Though i dont think they're a majority, they just seem to be the more outspoken fans.

No.
i am an anime fan, though i don't think all of it is fantastic. I've seen so much crap out there. DBZ, Pokemon, Zoids, Pilot Candidate. Labyrinth of Flames (wasn't all that great as some people said) And that's only some of the crapy anime out there. DBZ is the wrost

"Golgo 13: The Professional" and "Golgo 13: Queen Bee" are my absolute favorite anime films... Golgo 13 is like this bad-ass mofo killer, like Chow Yun-Fat in John Woo's "The Killer" or Yun-Fat in "The Replacement Killers" with just a hint of "Shaft", Steve McQueen & Charles Bronson mixed in with Leon from Luc Besson's "The Professional", maybe even a little Bruce Lee or Toshiro Mifune a la Kurosawa's Samurai Theatre, and definitely some Ghost Dog: Way of the Samurai aka Forest Whitaker in Jarmusch's film mixed in.
The talent behind "Golgo 13: the Professional" consists of director Osamu Dezaki and designer Akio Sugino, renowned for work on classics of anime like "Rose of Versailles" and "Black Jack". All of Dezaki's cinematic wizardry... sudden dissolves to matte paintings, multi-level split-screen action, and innovative camera angles, and like, I've always liked Sugino's chunky, realistic character design, it makes the film considerably more watchable...
Golgo13 aka Duke Togo is this total alpha male, like Vincent Mancini crossed with Tyler Durden minus the dysfunction. He's like James Bond with a sex addiction... wait a sec, that's redundant, isn't it? Anyways he kicks Bond's ass! He lives on the fringe, he does the jobs nobody else will touch, he dresses cool, and he always gets the woman, hell, it seems like he gets laid 5 or 6 times before the first third of the movie is over... Oh yeah, that's the entertaining thing about "Golgo 13: The Professional". It's completely fucking crazy. It makes absolutely no sense, dig? That's why it's so damn good...

i watch the stuff that looks good.
Blood: the last vampire
Ninja Scroll
Cowboy Bebop
Vampire Hunter D : Bloodlust
Trigun
Spawn(the HBO series, does that count?)
All i have are these Action Bills.

I liked blood the last vampire, i just wish it was longer.
Ummmm nah dont think spawn counts.
Rated R for disturbing and graphic depiction of violent anti-social behavior, sexuality and language.
i read somewhere that blood was suposed to be a stepping stone into a bunch of other stuff, i.e. comics games and the like.
i hope that still pans out.
edit-oh shit, i just saw you avatar, i just saw boondock saints a few days ago.
good flick.

Akira, Ghost in the Shell, Evangelion (NOT end of evangelion, that was weird, except when Asuka killed all the tranny Eva's and they came back and... yeah, that was kinda cool)
They always have to do with these ultra-hip criminals/bounty hunters/assassins or magical robot bullshit. Cowboy Bebop is cool because it doesn't have some world-coming-apart plot and it doesn't take itself too seriously, even though it does have the ultra-hip bounty hunter, but that's okay since he really is ultra-hip.

Eva was fucking amazing. End of Eva was fucking amazing, too. No matter how weird it seemed, what was happening was the third impact, a religious ceremony full of idols and shit. It looked weird as hell, but it was fucking great.
Anime scares me.
I've only seen three sets that i really like:
Trigun
Neon Genesis
Rurouni Kenshin
So if you have any suggestions of ones that don't blow ass, then hook a brotha up and let me know.

evangelion rocks, EoE especially, those production evas in the end are amazing !
I try to, but so far I've only seen Ghost in the Shell which is quite brilliant
Dillinger... Cowboy Bebop.
I dont know if this is true but the writer wrote evangelion when he was in a mental institution. I heard it from a friend. Watch akira if you like anime and dont forget the thousands of hentai the japs are making.
I am jack's irrational fear
FUCK NO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
i didnt like Cowboy Bebop... sorry
but i do like Akira... forgot that one.
but thank you.

umm I only enjoyed record of the lodoss war and akira oh also trigun. Blood the last vampire had the best technique aplied to it and nga is my all time fav.
My razor sharp knife's edge, pierces my victim's body.
But I can't take their soul.
Punching through jello, stabbing not killing.
Disappointment. Discomfort.
I don't think akira is as great as everyone says it is. Evangelion, Armitage, and Blood the last vampire, are my favorites for now. Once I see more that might change.
the scenario of akira is one of the most original ever. It's even better than matrix for sure.

Cowboy Bebop and Gundam Wing. I really liked those shows.
yeah homes, ancient thread appreciation.
My favorite anime series would have to be the first few Samurai X OVAs. They're in Japanese, but they have subtitles. I think there's 4 of them.

I've seen the Blood mangas. I wan't impressed. Their style is too far removed from the film.
Eva, of course. Series, film and manga; all far above-par.
The Akira manga blows the film away entirely. If you think the production values in the film were high...
I tend to not hardly appreciate much animé. Trigun didn't do anything for me, but Cowboy Bebop did, though the movie was painfully slow [until the last bit, where they really let their animation loose].
Neither of the Vampire Hunter D movies did anything for me.
The soft-core porn comedy/dramas are worthless fluff to me and serve only as bases for hentai mangas, as far as I'm concerned. All the over-obvious sexual tension just gets those kids rearing to see more than panty or two-frame nipple shots.
Anything by Studio Ghibli is priceless, but not suited to jaded little pukes who can't appreciate the work that goes in to them.
I'm starting to watch Last Exile, which is technically very impressive, but I've only seen two episodes so far.
Also getting the Zone of the Enders series after seeing the movie [which was terrible], though I may stop if it gets much more cheap.
My jury's still out on Kurogane Communication since I've only seen the first episode and it didn't do or say much beyond introduce the characters.
Stopped caring about Popotan after the first episode.
Stellvia of the Universe is an odd series to me... It's terribly childish, but there's something endearing about it.
All-Purpose Cultural Catgirl Nuku-Nuku reminds me of the rare little cartoons I used to see when I was too young to realize it. Astroboy and the like.
The Adult Swim animé series aren't exactly the top of the bunch, but there's some value to be had. Cowboy Bebop, of course, but I can't watch it a thousand times.
Inu Yasha is terribly sappy, but what do you expect from the guy who created Ranma½? It has some good moments and its exploration of Japanese mythology is interesting in its own right.
Ninja Scroll is in a similar vein and very enjoyable on its own. When I first saw it, I had to draw. And so I did. Scan available on request.
Big O... Is interesting, up to a point. The touching and going about the relationship with the android girl is interesting. The mechas are originally styled. The setting ends up feeling terribly contrived after a while, though, and the constant ponderous tone is too unrelated to reality. The lines of questioning don't strike a chord for me.
Rurouni Kenshin is quite the enormous franchise. Didn't grab me as much as it did some other people, though. The super-samurai schtick got old for me really fast.
I have the entire Japanese-style version of the Lone Wolf & Cub mangas, am collecting Blade of the Immortal, have all of Battle Angel Alita [including the side-story and am collecting the "real ending" series], the Star Wars manga series was brilliant [as far as the original three films are concerned; once they hit Episode 1, I tuned out--samurai Jedi are fun]... Gunsmith Cats, despite being largely soft-core pornish has some interesting technical details about certain cars and firearms that fits well with my liking of the latter.
Aqua Knight, by the guy who made Battle Angel, is a surprising turn-around after his previous work. Overtly simple, quietly deep. The style is so different and shows the artist's evolution.
I gobble up anything unanimated by Masamune Shirow, especially Appleseed and Ghost in the Shell [I personally know someone who visits Shirow's studios on a regular basis and has worked on promotional stuff for GitS and designs animé-themed airsoft firearms for Tokyo Marui and an other company that makes conversion kits for conventional frames, like Beretta 92fs and M4s]. Neither films did either series any kind of justice. I have his earliest publishing, which led to Black Magic M-66, which I feel is the only of his films that really showcased how deep he can go in to creating something. Dominion too, of course, though it's not the kind of story I'd prefer.
Domu, by the guy who created Akira, is really a masterpiece. Seeing it, I'm not surprised at how well Akira was received, though it's a shame Domu is largely unrecognized by the general public.
Despite that, the vast majority of the animé and manga I've ever seen was beyond deplorable. MD Geist, Street Fighter 2 and their ilk are just too bad for words.
I've probably missed something...
*EDIT* If you can get your hands on Bokko, or "Stratege," do so. Next to Lone Wolf & Cub, it's one of the greatest mangas I've ever read. Really says so much about humanity. Probably difficult to get in America...
I've watched a lot of what he watched, and he is a PIG for saying that about Vampire Hunter D who he KNOWS I love!
Studio Ghibli!!!
Speaking of Studio Ghibli, how could I forget the Nausicaä of the Valley of Wind manga? Took me weeks to read through just one. There's so much to see.
I can't fucking believe I lost the fourth book... No idea where...
Anime I like include, but are not limited to:
-Shoujo Kakumei Utena (series, not movie)
-Serial Experiments Lain
-Cowboy Bebop
-Trigun
-Pokémon
-Dragon Half
-Ghost in the Shell (movie + series)
-Vampire Hunter D
-Excel Saga / Puni Puni Poemi
Manga I collect include, but are not limited to:
-Pet Shop Of Horrors (raw)
-Dragon Half (raw)
-Ghost in the Shell (uncensored)
-Shoujo Kakumei Utena (original series)
-DB/Z (yeah, so sue me)
-Paradise Kiss
There's a lot more anime and manga that I'm fond of, but these are basically my faves.
Best anime: Shoujo Kakumei Utena (NOT the movie)
Best manga: Pet Shop Of Horrors (NOT the fucked up Tokyopop translation)
Best animanga character: Vash the Stampede

I liked Serial Experiments: lain, Cowboy Bebop, Akira, Ninja Scroll, Ghost in a Shell and Bubblegum Crisis Tokyo 2040. Been waiting to get hold of Evangaleon and Blood: the Last Vampire.
Didn't mind Digimon or Pokemon either, but not the kind of thing I could watch repeatedly.
Blessed are those who can laugh at themselves, for they shall never cease to be amused.
I used to watch anime alot...GTO was one of my favorites. I was into collecting the fansubs and all that jazz. I have about 100 tapes still, but I sold all my dvds...I guess I just grew out of it.
Anime scares the shit out of me.
Not the anime itself so much as the fact that people actually find it interesting.

"There has been so bomb bomb!" - Drank Funk
I am quite new to Anime, haven't seen many, but Spirited Away just blew me away, it was so magical. Also Blood: The Last Vampire I enjoyed immensely!
They are adapting quite a lot of animes to live action films in America.
Blood The Last Vampire being one of them, as well as Akira.
Fans of anime films, what do you think of America remaking animes into live action films?
There's also Neon Genisis.
I think it's a foolhearty endeavor.
Spirited Away is by Studio Ghibli. You need to see their other films. Anything you can get your hands on. Nausicaä of the Valley of Wind, My Neighbor Totoro, Kiki's Delivery Service, Castle in the Sky: Laputa, Princess Mononoke... I have a six-DVD collector's set with eleven films and a beautiful music video. Brilliant team.
Ghibli and Gainax are my favourite studios.
Jin Roh: The Wolf Brigade is another fantastic watch.
Now, I like the sound of a six disc set! I do want to see Kiki's Delivery Service(looks wonderful from the trailer) and Castle In The Sky. I wasn't familiar with anything else by Studio Ghibli. So will look for that set in the shops.

And here I was thinking I was the only one!!!! Rejoice!
There was some loser in my art class talking about going to aniem North and who he's gonna dress up as, I looked over at him and sighed, than shook my head. He abruptly shut up.
Cowboy Bebop is my favorite anime series, followed closely by Evangelion and Trigun. If you've only seen the Cartoon Network version of these, you're missing so much. The greatest anime movie of all time is Grave of the Fireflies, hands down. Most people have no idea anime can be this powerul. The only thing that comes close to the level of emotion throughout Grave... is the ending to the Bebop series.
Akira is a classic, as is Ninja Scroll and the original Vampire Hunter D, although the sequal was better.
The great thing about being ignored is that you can speak the truth with impunity. - Steve Aylett, "Toxicology"
Emotion, power?
They've got voer-exageratted facial response and constant flashing backgrounds to simulate fast movements. How are they emotional and powerful?
Most of the backgrounds are water color, and the majority of the scenes are quiet and docile. The majority of the action happens during the fire bombings, when the village is burning and crowds are running for safety, I think that warrents "flshing backgrounds." The moments I'm talking about when I mean powerful are parts like the opening scene and the interludes of the brother and sister just spending time together, doing the best to be happy, despite all of the chaos around them.

So you're saying you equate simple shit like Pokemon with the entirety of what the Japanese have to offer in terms of animation?
Is The Matrix symbolic of all that American cinema has to offer?
Is Chuck symbolic all of what American literature has to offer?
Right.
Grave is in the six-disc set I have, which is liable not to be easily found in any stores in America... The whole set is plagued with the worst subs I've ever seen, and they're not by fans.
I have all of Love Hina on my PC right now, all sequels and specials too, need to burn to disc.
I have all of Cowboy Bebop on it too, all episodes, and the feature length movie.
Neon Genesis Evangelion is next maybe.
I love anime, I think it's great, especially Cowboy Buebop, which just has this unique style, and the music is great. Love Hina was just so damn hilariouas, the story kciked ass, and the ending of it all was so sweet.
NIow I'm going for big robots in NGE.

Spriggan is good too. But in response to Cliff, I have a feeling all you've ever seen is Dragonball Z on cartoon Network. No offense, but, you don't ahve the slightest idea of what you're talking about.
Ranma 1/2 was the only thing I ever cared to watch.
Without dubbing or subtitles.
it's bolox.

I love anime. I haven't gotten anything new recently, but I still watch Cowboy Bebop quite often, even though I've seen it all the way through countless times.
