It’s tax season again. And for many of us, the idea of doing taxes and giving the IRS the pound of flesh they demand is a harrowing thought. One Austin, Texas, man, claiming to have been fed up with being ripped off by the IRS for over 20 years, flew a small plane into a building containing the local IRS office Thursday morning.

Way to not out-do the last folks to fly planes into buildings.

Underwhelming, but sort of funny.

EDIT:

Apparently, he posted a Manifesto online before the flight, which is posted here:

That thing is long. Haven't even read it yet. Dunno if I will... manifesto's are all the same, IMO.

No, read the manifesto!

I read it today while at work, and immediately I thought of The Cult. But, the site was down!

The manifesto is lucid, reasonable, well written. You will understand and relate to what he wrote -- well, maybe not all the technical stuff about his taxes, that part drags a bit. But, otherwise, it's a rant one of us might have included in a work of fiction.

Except this rant is real. And this coherent, seemingly rational person set fire to his house, stole a plane and flew it into a building.

It's a rare glimpse at the motivation behind a desparate act, not anything like Kaczynski's ravings.

He would have much appreciated a cop singing the chorus to I Shot The Sheriff while being careful to leave in awkward pauses in between breaths. Not kidding.

Duly noted, I'll give it a look a little later.

I was delayed for a few hours because of this incident. Big news around Austin. I haaaaad to read the manifesto as soon as I heard of it. At first I shed a tear. Then I couldn't stop laughing when he reminded me of Frank Grimes from The Simpsons.

There was a 1986 tax law that prevented computer programmers from starting their own computer programming business. That's partially what made him go crazy.

Having the IRS up your butt about stuff sucks. Were they auditing him year after your or something or was he just against paying tax at all? I'm guessing he burnt his house down so it wouldn't be seized.

I liked the rant, or manifesto, I was almost on his side by the end of it then he had to get all martyr-y. Don't know what to feel about this.

He should have planned this better. Get rid of the WHOLE building, that way we all can not do taxes this year.
