Cult Meetup: 2006
Has anyone compiled a list of all the viable locations for this? Why don't you guys just put up a multi-selectable poll with all the locations and public - visible results. Then you would be able to see:
1 - How many can go to each location
2 - Who those people are
You'd have to pick a date, or something close to it. At least distinguish between summer vs. schooltime so that people have a general idea as to where they would be.
I agree. I live all the way up in fucking New Hampshire. And I'll be damned before I go to the state that brought us GW. It would be better financially if we had a lot of regional gatherings instead of one big one.
I'll be damned before I go to the state that brought us GW..
Why is this a valid excuse? Seriously.

He wasn't born in Texas. He was born in Connecticut, so technically, you're saying you don't want to go to Connecticut? Isn't that closer to you?

And went to school at Yale. Not UT.

Okay, okay I'll lay off my hatred for the south because it's very biased and wrong. But still, I think it would be financially better if we did it regionaly. Or by state or whatever (if there is enough people), I mean, I would actually like very much to meet some of my fellow Cultists but don't have the money to go flying all over the place. I can go out of a state or two (and maybe, maybe Canada) but that's about it.
Okay, okay I'll lay off my hatred for the south because it's very biased and wrong.
Texas isn't in the South; no need to fear it. I'll come to New Hampshire though. I hear it's rather... quaint.

Quaint it is. Well, I go to college in NH but l live in MA. So it depends if it's during the schoolyear or not (I dorm it up). I also have no liscense, so would have to hunt for trans. Depending on where it is I could probably find my own transportation.
Okay, that's 2 for the Northeast region. Anyone else?
I know one "trans" that I found rather cute last July... but I'm off topic.
I urge everyone to look at this decision from the point of view of : What is best for the Cult as a whole?
It seems that many are looking at what would be best for themselves or naysaying others suggestions, just cuz.
If you have a suggestion for a place. State it and give reasons.
There is going to have to be compromise. There are a whole lot of people that would want to go to an event like the one that has been preposed.
How can we get the most people, for the least cost to a viable location?

If the Cult were some sort of democracy, I would vote for you man.
Maybe you could meet in the middle somewhere and nominate someone from each region to be in charge of driving the CULT MINIBUS and have a minibus for each region with a sign on the side like the special kids at school have. Then it'd be like a bunch of mad road trips and one big meet-up! EEP!

They don't call me Butterknife for nothin'.
Your vote has been counted and a representative will be contacting you shortly.

Right-right, Robert. Didn't mean to jump out of nowhere (well, the South
). But seriously, I'll go anywhere. Texas is good. The South is good. The North, well, I'll go there too. Fuck, it's been a while since I've been to Canada. I'll try to make it whereever the Cult deems good. So... I'll stay quiet for now.

And many of us can and will go anywhere. Myself included.
BUT, I would think the focus should be on the Culties that CAN'T go anywhere. To do what we can to accomodate them.

I vote for that idea. Makes the most sense we can get the most people that way. And I know I would be willing to pay for transport on the Cult minibus.
wait. butterknife?
The name was given to me by Karbunkle late one night outside of a motel in rural Indiana. It's because I'm good at smoothin' shit out.

True. Like I said, I'm voting with the majority. You make sure the majority includes the minority, then we'll all be happy.

I was kidding. I was mocking you people.
How can we get the most people, for the least cost to a viable location?
*clears throat since it may not have been clear before* How about a poll. Nobody's going to read back through this mess and take notes. Start with some numbers and names. If people can't make it to the "main" meet-up they can organize regional meet-ups.
And don't list USA locations only. List Canadian and European and any other place that could get a half-dozen or more people. Let everyone vote for as many places as they'd be willing to go. See how the numbers stack up.
This won't get you a final decision, but at least it would give you some direction. This thread is just a mess as-is.
What's the list so far?
Portland
Austin
LA
San Francisco
Boston
New York
Toronto
Chicago
London
Amsterdam
New Orleans
Seattle
Venice Beach
Las Vegas
Phoenix
keep it going (cross off any non-usable ones), assemble the list, and make a poll. It's not brain surgery.
i thought about that a couple weeks ago
about how stupid it is as a nickname i mean its a butterknife for christs sake its ridiculous !
although it does have the word "knife" it it so theres something cool too that
I was kidding. I was mocking you people.
We're serious now. No need for mockery...
We should appoint someone to organize this whole thing. Anyone wanting to step up?
1. What is the scope of the meetup? Regional? National? International? Defining realistic goals is important.
2. Collect data. A map with little pins in it would be useful here. Some people talk a game, but would never actually go to a meetup. Don't let these people skew your data.
3. Analyze data. Which location best suits the most people based on the goals and data?
4. Present results. Offer Multiple choices and clearly describe the benefits/limitations of each.
5. Vote.
I won't be going to a meetup.

I would add Manchester on there.

Groovy, you blingless warrior,
...and any other place that could get a half-dozen or more people.
if theres only half a dozen people show up I'd look at it as a failure
how many did we have this past summer 23-24?
I would add Manchester on there.
Why?
Why?
Because I'm around there. Not sure if anyone else is though.
New Orleans is a broken city. Although it would be fun, it would be hard to get places. I spent a week in Mississippi after Katrina, and we had to drive two hours, to Florida, just to find a hotel room.
Granted, this will be near a year after the hurricane hit, but the hotels are clogged with refugees, relief workers, volunteers, construction crews, and such. Those people are going to need hotel rooms for a very long time. My two friends just went back to the city to get the last of their belongings. All they said was, "It's broken," and didn't want to talk about it.
A year's not a very long time for the kind of recovery effort that would be involved -- people down there I've spoken to say it'll be decades before the city is close to what it was. There are neighborhoods that people will never move back into, that the government will eventually renovate themselves.
And those levees are going to take years to repair. New Orleans has a sucking chest wound with nothing to cover it.
It would be fun to help boost the economy but we'd really have to look into what the city looks like around that time. If we have a large crowd, it may not be feasible. And yea, the Quarter is doing good, but the rest of the city is shot.
I like the idea of Austin. Mainly because my brother is going to college a half hour away. Plus, Daley. Also, Portland, because my friends from New Orleans both moved there. Those two cities are both on my list to visit, so, selfishly, I will throw in my vote for those two.
/ramble
Seriously, though. I'm up for whatever. As long at it's near the beginning of the summer. I'm probably moving up to Albany and as long as state legislature is in session, it'll be hard for me to get time off.

The NYC meeting had less than a dozen and was quite fun. It wasn't a whole-weekend deal but I had a blast. Hardly a failure. Some people will not be able to make the big shinding. I know already that if it's not within driving distance, I'm not going. But I'd be up for a smaller one-day deal even if that's the case, even if it's just a half-dozen people. It's just a good excuse for a good time.

So, why isn't this post a thread with a poll?
And just so you know, cassun has this covered around page three, the poll etc. This thread is just to see what cities should be on the poll.
I say we stay away from Toronto. A few of my friends got jumped by 20 black guys there, and those 20 black guys are still on the loose.
These things get so messy.
AND so the process is no longer up for discussion?
Is there any other Cultist in the New Hampshire/Massachusettes region?
I say we stay away from Toronto. A few of my friends got jumped by 20 black guys there, and those 20 black guys are still on the loose.
20 ?
thats all the black guys that are in toronto aint it ?
If it's in New York I'll go for sure. I've been meaning to do New-York, and I have poor taste in everything and its close, so that would be pretty cheap for me.
Is there any other Cultist in the New Hampshire/Massachusettes region?
i think prensas up their in NH and theres snuffy an co. in massachusetts

I would love to go to NYC but would need transportation to and fro. Willing to financially compensate anyone willing to take me.

Snuffy is in Mass? How did I not know that?
Because 1 - the list isn't complete and 2 - the likelihood that it won't be in New York depresses me.
1 Exactly, so stop yelling at us about a poll already!
2 But there's a likelihood that other culties in your area won't be able to go either so ya'll can have a regional one.
The NY one was smallish but cosy and a total blast.
Yay New York!
Where do you live?
My college is in Manchester New Hampshire, but my home is in Ashburnham (some small town middle of nowhere) Mass. Great, now you all can stalk me.
