CULT DEBATE - LIVE FROM FLOR!
Here's the dillio:
Me and Pocketfives are hanging out Tuesday night. We're looking to have an Anarchist debate, live, however possible that may be. I'm thinking about a half hour long, but if we get caught up in it, just letting it stretch on.
We could do it on justin.tv or whatnot, and I'm posting this as both awareness for it and to gauge interest. Who'd be able to watch Tuesday, April 28th, somewhere between 8-10pm? I expect to arrive in Gainesville around 7pm, so a little after that would be the time it would go up if possible.
I don't have a webcam, but I do have a camcorder with a firewire plug-in to my comp. I don't know if it could record live or not, but word. Me and PFives haven't really planned this out, we just texted each other that it might be a good idea. PFives, you have a webcam?
Anyways, if not many people can watch live, we could just record (non-live) a semi-formal debate and and later I could edit the footage to make my argument stronger...just kidding, I could post the raw footage later on DirtTube.
So, who's down? Suggestions? Wanna have cultie call-in to pose questions? Anyone wanna be a remote moderator via phone, etc? Who's interested?
Obviously, I don't wanna go too crazy with this, but make the most of it.
PS: I'll be hanging with various other culties along the route home from Flor that week, and I'll save that for a separate thread. This thread is for the debate.
Also, if we really can't get video to work, we could just have an audio debate easy enough, and still do call-in and all that good stuff. I have a mic for my comp, so that's all set if all else fails.
"They sold you hippies grunge, hip hop, now liberty activism."
I agree with monkey. Too, i probably won't be able to catch it live, but i'd love to see/hear it later.
I don't have a webcam, actually. I do have a USB mic to plug into my computer, if all else fails.
Also, looks like I'll have to do some reading over the weekend. And find a gun range.
Oh, too, it's really weird talking about the Cult out loud. This is going to be an experiment.
My camcorder should work. Gun range may not be unfeasable unless they have a hi-speed connect. I'll test it out with justin.tv later and post here with results.
And I'm attending a 'radical' conference this weekend at New College, 3 day event. By radical, they mean more up your alley than mine, but it'll give me practice.
"They sold you hippies grunge, hip hop, now liberty activism."
Do you think we could do this at your friend's place, or wherever you're staying? My place might be a bit tough.
Yeah, should be good.
My friend agreed to be a moderator, but for the sake of bias (since he's also AnCap) feel free to bring in an anti-capitalist anarchist amigo (then it can turn into a 4-way brawl
)
"They sold you hippies grunge, hip hop, now liberty activism."
Hey!

...hi?
Oh, I thought you guys were doing this tonight...

We still are, I think. Giggles' drive is running late.
just arrived, heading to find a place, we´ll be ready in a bit
"They sold you hippies grunge, hip hop, now liberty activism."
So, there's that. Pretty cool, yeah? Thanks to everybody who took part in the First Annual Cultie Radical-Off.
Also, for those of you who were watching and curious, I should have elaborated on the concept of alienated labor. It has to do not only with the worker being deprived of any meaningful interaction with the product of his/her labor, but also with the fact that the worker has no say whatsoever in how the work is done. This kind of shop-floor democracy is what I meant when I said "worker's self-management."
Anyway, yeah, this thread will probably turn into an extension of the debate, I suppose, and I'm very down with that. Good night.
Hey, Garret, I missed the debate after you got kicked out of that first room. I hope you had fun.
If you're running late to my house, I'll lock you out. No, seriously, give me a call. I'll PM my number to you. And don't worry about debating tonight - we'll just feed you burgers and fries.
Good coffee is like drinking Rock and Roll.
It was a great debate guys. And very fun for all of us. Thanks for putting it on!

Was the debate saved to appear on Youtube or some such? I'm sorry I missed it.
It's in 9 parts...we ended up running on for like 2 hours. Good fun though. I just wish I had been recording when the janitor/security whatever guy kicked us out, I imagine that was funny on the audience's end.

Also, thanks to all who participated/called in.

hahaha. i sound like one of those movie phonecalls that informs the main character that theyre about to be butchered. my phone voice is odd.
I don't want to hear myself. I had no idea what i was talking about!!

While I may not be able to watch live, I'd like to see the carnage later. I think you should hold the debate at a gun range, though.
