Christmas 2011
aww that's adorable
Christmas tree is often explained by the fact of Christianity a pagan tradition and ritual surrounding the Winter Solstice, which included the use of pine branches and tree adaptation of pagan worship. christian christmas greetings
Where can I find pagan greeting cards?
paganism resonates with me more than any other religion. I'm some sort of agnostic pagan with lingering christian guilt.

I like those.
ME TOO!
I thought they were quite pretty.
The last one is nice in that it has the sun rising. Yule is the celebration of the return of the light into the world. Basically. The winter solstice is the shortest day of the year, in the northern hemisphere, and then the light comes back to us, back to the world. It is no accident that christmas is celebrated a few days later, honoring the birth of the light, the son of god, into this world.
I don't know how to tell my parents that I won't be able to come home for Christmas this year.
EDIT_
Sorry for the depressing post, haha. >_>
I do absolutely love Christmas though! We're not used to doing anything special in The Netherlands, besides spending time with family, but in Norway we have a big dinner and presents of course.
The acorn branches face one looks like Nicholas Cage!

Oh no, why not?
My boyfriend wanted to come to my family for Christmas but he's afraid of upsetting his parents so he's not. They always say every year when he goes home, "Oh, well we didn't expect you to come to us for Christmas this year" but if he didn't they'd make such a fuss! URGH.
I will say it again, I love pepperam.

I don't have a lot of money and should be saving up instead of flying to The Netherlands twice a year. Once I get a job, it'll be easier (financially) to fly back and forth, but now.. Yeah. My boyfriend doesn't have much time off either, and it doesn't make sense to me to spend Christmas and/or New Years without him.
Favourite Christmas song ever:
Oh I do love that song too Hattie.

and I already posted a picture of Kaya by the tree this year in the Thanksgiving thread but here is another one.

I did a good amount of Christmas shopping today, and pretty much covered my secret santa stuff as well!
Are the scissors broken in your house, son?

Also sam was one adorable little kid.
I wrote all the cards today. I'd like to send Sarah, Melody, Pete, Steve, Alecia and Chenoa cards as well, so if either of you wants one, PM me your address.
Hooray for Simon's Cat!
I am going to put up my Christmas tree this weekend. Woop!
I love Christmas and I love The Muppets! <3 Perfect combination.
Finally got a couple pictures to upload. Here is a my size Christmas tree
1 of 2 that I decorated.
And here is our living room
The angel in the corner is a painting my mom did.
Wow Jaz it is super festive at your house. I love that!!
Whatever Whore!
It smells christmassy too!
Oh please post pics Alecia!

On those purple sofa and armchairs of course. That green love seat used to be in my room. It's rather cozy.
I love that you have a strictly decorative couch, Jaz. Also literally decorative.
Are the scissors broken in your house, son?
Double post but whatever!
I wanted to get Chris an Advent calendar and I searched all around stupid Kirksville for 2 hours and found nothing. So I went home with a big plastic candy-cane full of Kisses (exactly 24 of them! perfect!) and painted this in 20 minutes:

then added 20 kisses.

I'm just going to give him the 4 spare Kisses on the side since they wouldn't fit correctly haha.
YAY FALLBACK IDEAS
Are the scissors broken in your house, son?
Cutest Christmas tree painting.
HA! They aren't strictly decorative hehe They are comfortable and we sit on them, sleep on them even. The pieces of furniture I could do with out are the cast iron tables and chairs. They hurt like a bitch if you stub your toe/run into them.
Aw, thanks! I was so ashamed of it at first because I kept fucking up and adding loads more paint, but that's my style I suppose haha. Chris loved it so I feel good.
Jaz, okay this is like the 4th time I've looked at that picture and I'm only now seeing that the containers of ornaments and the picture frames AREN'T ON THE COUCH. Totally looked like they were on the couch before. I guess the painful table is the one holding them. Got it. haha ahhhh YA PLAYIN' TRICKS ON MA EYES WOMAN

Sam, that's neat!
I still have my Halloween lights up on my house...

Yeah.. I do too... but they are only purple and green, not orange, so I'll probably leave them up.
We went and bought our tree this evening. I'm going to rearrange the livingroom tomorrow so there is a place for it and get down all of the decoration from the attic and see what happens. I am ready to forget about the rest of life and sink blissfully into christamas land for a while.
BUMPY!
Season's tidings, etc.
So who has finished their Christmas shopping? I ended up doing about 95% of my Christmas shopping online this year. Only one item has arrived so far, but I'm still optimistic :s
Moved to the proper thread.

Gotta christmas shop for my parents. Don't know what i'm gonna get them...
I've just got to get something for my brother. He's so hard to buy for! I'll probably just get him a T-shirt or something. And a box of biscuits or something for my Aunty and Uncle.
My christmas present to myself is that I'm not going to my folks house on Christmas day. I know I sound like a total grinch, but you have no idea what it's like to spend time with 3 autistic people (and Mum), that have no idea how to be social, and have no awareness that the house smells like cat pee, and the food on the table looks like it's been sitting there all day, maybe days, and it's the middle of summer people! Ugh. I'll see them at my Aunty's on Boxing day for a BBQ. I feel a bit mean for not going, but I know that after this xmas all other ones will be about baby and madness.
We'll be working on DIY this xmas too.
We had Xmas with bloke's family on sunday. It was nice, they're so Normal.
My niece was adorable and got the biggest pile of presents. We got given stuff for out baby too, which was quite sweet.
TOO MUCH SHOPPING TO DO STILL.
NOT ENOUGH HAIR TO PULL OUT.
No shopping here except for my nephew and little girl.. Going to be a quiet uneventful XMas for us.

This is the first christmas in about five years that we can really afford to do everything (or anything for that matter) we want to do without taking a loan from family.
And strangely, it is the first year in quite a while that I am not getting carried away and obsessed with over decorating and making mountains of fudge.
I've finished my xmas shopping. Phew.
But I only just sent out xmas cards today, so they'll be a bit late. Oh well.
I got to pick out my Christmas presents today I will post pics of them later.
I've gotten 4 Christmas cards so far, and I'm pretty sure I'll be getting more and it's making me feel loved! <3 I wish I could've sent out more cards myself.
And your card was the most christmassy card I received this year!
I just got a Christmas package from Amber! A cute little compact and some delicious looking candy. So thoughtful and sweet! Thanks Amber!

Today my Dad's home and after he and Mum go shopping for food we'll make the tree and I'll finish decorating cookies. I have the feeling it's the 24th, because we always make the tree on Christmas Eve, so tomorrow will be suuuuch a long day.
If I hear Driving Home for Christmas one more time, I'm going to scream!
On a more cheery note, I finished my Christmas shopping today!
