what a noob
I'm not the first post on the page - at least for me. But we've already proved that the formatting is all weird for mods...
what a mod
The best beer comes from the NW, where Chucky lives. Having been to Portland, that's my opinion at least. Tons of microbrews. I would go for Deschutes brewery and try the Black Butte Porter. Another thing to try is the "hop in the dark" CDA by full sail brewery. Some dark and tasty brews.
enjoy!
Discontents: The real story of the disappearance of Emory Walden
A bump.
I had some of this yesterday:

I thought it was great. It had a smokey/seaweedy taste, if that makes sense. 11.5% alcohol and i had to chug it at the pool because glass containers aren't allowed and this old man called the office on us and the lady had to come out to tell us but luckily it was empty and back in the cooler before she came out.
I drink this a lot:

And this:

Both are awesome.
That first beer sounds interesting.
I had this

and then I tried this epimere(?) beer which tasted almost like a gummy bear.

A beer tasting of Gummy Bears probably has the potential of turning you into a real life Gummy Bear
Ha!
Whatever Whore!
Oh and, there are so many new beers out there. I haven't drank for 8 years, but when I use to drink I liked to drink Rollimg Rock and Corona with a lime in the summer. Also , I liked Heineken, St. Pauly Girl and Dosequies? (sp?) You guys post such interesting beers.
Whatever Whore!
I really want to try this bacon lager but the place ran out of it.
I'm not sure if it's this one but either way I'm curious.

Oh god I love new belgion. How were they? please say magical?
As your attorney, my advise to you is to start drinking heavily(er).-Tuffy
Everything about New Belgium is magical, i've never disliked one of their beers. That's probably the coolest brewery i've been to.
Also, my friend and his girlfriend added gummy bears to a beer they brewed. It's possible.
...gummy beer.
As your attorney, my advise to you is to start drinking heavily(er).-Tuffy
Exactly.

I've had Trois Pistoles numerous times. I like it.
This is why we can't have nice things.
It kicked my ass.
Does it mean three guns?
The pistole was an old time (think, Musketeer, Louis XIV) currency.

It should be pointed out that the brewery in question is called Unibrau.
I typically don't like "clever" beers; they tend to either have the alcohol cranked-up so high that they only taste like burning or be otherwise gimmicky in a bad way such as, "We put all the hops in our beerses! Alllll The Hops!" But Trois Pistoles is, while fairly high in alcohol, still pretty good.
Blithering Idiot (Weyerbacher Brewery) is also good.
Xingu Black Beer was a favorite for a long time.

Surprisingly drinkable.
This is why we can't have nice things.
My beer is boring compared to this thread.

Mmm Sam Adams and Guinness. What is that Shark beer?
Dogfish Head 90 Minute IPA. Esquire Magazine called their 90 Minute IPA "perhaps the best IPA in America."
They make a reallly awesome pumpkin ale that I wait all year for.
I can't remember if I've had Dogfish Head but I know I've heard of it. I rarely drink IPA because they usually have way too much flavor for my acquired taste.
Dogfishhead never really clicked for me. It's quality stuff, just not my thing.
This is why we can't have nice things.
Dogfish Head brews all seem to be very strong, flavor department wise. Almost like a challenge to admit it is just that little bit too much. Many of them aren't quite dry enough for my taste, but awesome for the occasional change of pace.
This whole thread is making me drool, really.
I had some PBR tonight. As plain as it gets, (yet I still need a glass for it) but I still relished it so much. Haven't relaxed with any beer in weeks.
Does one use the term "dry" when referring to beer, not jut wine? Or does that sound silly of me?
I agree. Dogfish Head and most IPA's aren't my thing at all. It's odd to me but they seem molasses-y and almost chocolatey to me. I can't really enjoy them at all during the summer, but my boyfriend does year round. I don't know how to describe beers well but it just sit really thick on the tongue and heavy in the belly. I like them well enough on occasion in the winter with marshmellows.
Does anyone know of any good sour beers? I've recently discovered two that I love which are regrettably rare and hard to find.
Siasons are usually dry, especially farmhouse ales. I get those when i'm in the mood for dry beers. Not a lot of people like dry beer so it's harder to find. But French and Belgian farmhouses ales are typically dry.
Also, i had this sour beer from New Belgium called tart lychee i think. It was super sour but really good. Hard to find too i think.
I also prefer (and refer to them as) dry beers.
This is why we can't have nice things.
I like chocolatey and molasses flavored beers but IPA's are very floral and Im' not big on the floral taste. If it's floral it has to be the right amount and not over the top which IPA's usually are.
I don't think I've ever had a floral IPA but now I'm curious.
I had one a few weeks ago and it was wonderful.
this one

Or I guess hoppy is the proper term.
Barley wine is pretty hefty, it's hard to drink more than one.
You know nothing of how I can drink!
(kidding, I agree for the most parts about barley wine)
I always feel Shire-like and cheerful like a hobit when I drink barley wines, the name mostly, just seems do novel to me.
Barleywine, mead, sarsasparilla... Drinking archaic beverages is fun.
This is why we can't have nice things.
I want to make mead.
Once at Renaissance Festival, this crazy costumed guy with an accent told us about Loki, which i want to make sometime. At least, i think it was a costume.
According to the mixologist and creator, the name is
properly 'Loki's Revenge', and the "secret" is a secret no longer. In fact,
there are Loki Competitions and a wide variety of flavor variations these
days, but the original recipe (and my personal favorite) is as follows:One gallon of Water
One 4lb bag of Sugar
One cup of Vanilla Extract
One cup of Almond Extract
1,500 ml (two fifths) of Everclear1. Mix Water and Sugar together in a large pot over a medium heat. Ensure
that all the Sugar melts.
2. Allow to cool completely.
3. Add the Extracts and Everclear.
4. Bottle and store for at least a month, three or more preferably. This
will produce about two gallons of Loki, so be prepared with enough containers.
5. Drink responsibly. For some reason the phases of the moon and the mind set of those involved in
the mixing seem to have an effect on the outcome of the potency, flavor and
smoothness of the finished product. Try this as a group effort and see what
you can come up with...
The dude said you'll lose 20 minutes of your life when you drink it.
For some reason the phases of the moon and the mind set of those involved in the mixing seem to have an effect on the outcome of the potency, flavor and
smoothness of the finished product.
Well of course they do, that is just common sense.
Do you have any idea how expensive a cup of pure vanilla extract and a cup of pure almond extract would be? Probably as much as the Everclear. (I don't actually know what everclear costs, but still)
Two ounces of quality vanilla can cost $10 or upwards.

I'm not really a stout guy, but I drank a few of these the other night and really enjoyed it.
Green Flash is always pretty good.
You know in all the years I've been here I've never been sigged?
Green Flash is apparently popular here.
Drinking a Coronado Mermaid's Red Ale
[Pretend like this is a picture]
I've grown to appreciate them more than my original opinion. Still not really to my taste though.
This is why we can't have nice things.
I tried this place in Sacramento called Rubicon Brewing. The food was some of the worst i've ever had but their beers were really good. They were doing an Alaskan beer tasting at the time and all of those beers are great. Perseverance is my favorite.
Oh no, my fiance's brewing company is called Rubicon
I've been drinking what I call Bloody Beer the past couple of days, not sure if that is an official name, but it is what my friends always called it. Really good. Few shakes of Tapatio, just enough to make it really burn (alternatively tabasco works too, but not as flavorful), about four or five ounces of V8 and fill the rest of the glass with PBR.
Really, I'm just trying to mix it up and can't wait until I can have something nicer than PBR for a change.
Pizza and Beer

mmmmmmmmm

This is why we can't have nice things.
