Yeah, I've Full Sail, but I can't remember where. A roadtrip somewhere, probably. Good stuff.

Also, Random Cult Tidbit: I've only ever had Yuengling once, and that was in Pittsburgh, and it was bought for me by Tuffy back in '04 or so. I wasn't a big fan of the beer but I didn't know anything about anything back then.

Michelob? Even though they are owned by AB/InBev, its a solid line of brews.
To me any beer that acts as a gateway beer to 'better' beer is a good thing.
Like Blue Moon, its decent for the style, but people who are drinking it are trying other wits and thats a good thing.

No, I moved up to Utah, but there's a slim chance I'll be going to the Bears/49ers game in November, and if so, I'd love to get a meetup going. Between you, me, Mirka, RachelGita, Federov, MexiCretin, and whoever else decides to show up, I think we could have some fun.

Yeungling is nice. Straub is superior. Neither is to die for. Both are my every-day beers.

I have had their Full Suspension Pale Ale and I thought it was pretty tasty, have never had the Polygamy Porter but have heard good things.
Now if you want a huge porter, try Stones Smoked Porter, its big bold and smojy, but a word of advice, unless your smoking a cigar, share this beer with someone (it comes only in 22oz bombers). Its a huge beer that will kill your palate after one.
My fav porter is Maui Brewings Coconut Porter. That beer is just outstanding. Its a great porter with just a hint , a small hint, of toasted coconut. Its not sweet at all, just that little hint of toasted coconut as you drink it and it compliments teh style so well.

Glad to see Dos Equis getting some love in this thread.

There are Mexican beers other than Corona (which is icky!) Anyone else like Tecate?

Never cared much for Negro Modelo myself; found it too sweet, but since my tastes have further broadened perhaps I should give it another shot?

I'm not a fan of Negro, but I did dropped a 32 oz bottle of Modelo Especial through my foot once. Bloody mess, tendon damage, fun times.

Also, there's nothing more wonderful on this earth than attractive woman who love good beer.

That one is a personal favorite of mine. I really love that beer, but most beer people do!

You want a really mind screwing Stone beer? Next year when their seasonal 'Cali-Belgique' comes out, do yourself a favor and grab a bottle. Its an IPA fermented with a Belgian Trappist yeast strain. The beer tastes like both styles combined in a good way! Le Freak by Green Flash brewing is also similar and sold year round.

I like Negro Modelo, Bohemia and Modelo Especial when the time is right. Other than that, Mexico doesnt have a lot to offer beer wise.It is all about the light lager and Bohemian style pilsners in Mexico. Their craft industry is pretty much non existant .
Funny, they actually make a truer interpretation of a bohemian pilsner than the Germans do right now.

The next place coming up , craft beer wise, is Italy. They are jumping all over the craft scene and apparently producing some top notch beers right now. These beers are sloooooowly trickling into the US and I hope to get my hands on some!

Xingu Black Beer. A full-bodied beverage. Several years since I've had it, but I remember it fondly.

this is in reply to question about Unibroue from many posts ago. I don't know what kind of Unibroue it is, it says Ale on Lees on the bottle and is 10%.

Going to Lees Liquor right now, probably get some Lobotomy Boch. Was drinking IPA last night, "Metolius". Didn't care for it very much.

That doesnt help, all their bottles say Ale on Lees.
Lees is the leftover sediment from secondary fermentation.
Unibroue has a handful of varities. IMO they are the best brewery in Canada by far.

Ahh good ole Xingu, a schwarzbier. They look heavy but arent, the color is just for that, color. Basically, they use just enough dark malts to get the color and a slightbit of flavor.

as for the unibroue, the bottle of the one I still have just says 17th Anniversary, nothing else. It's the only one I ever see on the shelf at the store.

That Dolly Varden IPA gets bad reviews, Ive never had it but I trust the people who review it.

The Unibroue 17 is their 17th anniversary ale. They have done those for a bunch of years (other breweries do to, the most notable are Stone and Firestone-Walker). Those are limited edition once a year release, when they are gone, well, they are gone. Their anniversary ales are great for aging and can be aged up to five years (cellar temp). The style is a Belgian drak.

I've tried all the beers at BJs chain restaurant, and they're all pretty good. I'm a fan of their red and their blonde, and that one beer they had that one time that had like 13% alcohol. That was good, but I forgot what the hell it was.

Hah I can answer that an dnot go blarrrggghhh

beer is split into two catrgories - ale or lager.
ale is a beer that use a yeast that ferments on the top on the wort. Wort is un-fermented beer , pronounces 'wert'. These yeast strains ferments at a higher temp than lager strains. It also produces a stronger beer and is easier to deal with.

Lager is a beer that use a yeast strain that bottom ferments. All lager means is 'storing' but the beer style has come to mean its overall name. Lager beers, like Spaten and Heiniken, are light , crisp and mildly flavored because of the lagering of the beer. Lager yeasts ferment at low temperatures, as low as 32 degrees in some cases.
A lager yeast strain cannot ferment at 65 degrees, nor can an ale yeast strain ferment at 35 degrees.

Stouts and Porters are ales.
The only beer that blurs that line is Anchor Steam. Steam beers was invented in the late 1800's in California during the gold rush.Lager yeasted is used in the beer but it is brewed and fermented at ale temperatures. back then, lager yeasts held up in transportation fromt he East Coast to the gold country. But they had no way of keeping the beer cold during the lagering phase. So the basically said eff it, and still made beer. The fermentation worked but gave it a stronger profile, hence the steam beer was formed.
Fat forward to 1970's and Fritz Maytag, of the Maytag applaince fortune, bought Anchor brewing and started what is considered the first craft brewery. He found htis old style and started brewing it, called it Anchor Steam and patented the name steam beer.
Now , other companies cannot call their beers 'steam beer', and the proper term is now called 'California Common Beer'.
Dont be mad a Fritz for that, because he is considered the godfather of the craft industry. The man is friggin royalty in the craft beer world. You dont talk bad about Fritz, ever.

Yes it is, its an old fav of mine, always good on standby. Anchors Porter is great but their Christmas Ale is fucking outstanding. That stuff goes so fast , I only got two 6 packs last year before it was gone. They change their Christmas recipe every year, so you never know what your going to get.
Fritz also has a cheese factory- they make Maytag Blue Cheese, which is hard to find, awesmome and expensive. He also makes grain alcohol under the Anchor Distilling name, they make the famous Junipero Gin and some bad ass whiskey.

Another fun fact, the Junipero name is a play on a Bay Area icon, father Junipero Serra (Anchor is in SF). Gin is made with juniper berries (and other things) and Father Junipero Serra settled all the missions in California in the late 1700's. Mission Carmel aka -Mission San Carlos Borromeo
del Rio Carmelo, is the mission where Father Junipero Serra is buried and is one of thr only basilicas in the United States.

Just got back from a local microbrewery restaurant place called Tracks. Tonight's special was a beer called Light Rail that was pretty awesome and only $2/pint. Pretty dead in the place, though. There was one attractive bartender, a not attractive bartender, a couple of frumpy, out of town lesbian types, and a couple of frat boys who were playing pool and discussing loudly whether or not homosexuals were born or made, and whether or not there were really such things beings as bisexuals.

The bar closed at 1 PM, and knowing that that was the latest I could buy beer around here, I made a stop at 711 beforehand and got a 6 pack of Bud Light. I should've swung by Walmart instead and got something better, but I'm an idiot.

Thats because mass produced American style lagers, like Bud and Corona (even though Mexican, they copied the style), are made with adjuncts such as corn and rice. AB started this years and years ago as a way to cut down on their grain bill as corn and rice are cheaper than barley. Under the BJCP guidelines Budweiser is an adjunct lager and not considered a pilsner.
Corn and rice are added to the mash to provide fermentable sugars like the barley, but they impart no flavor, making the beer lighter yest still having enough sugar to make alcohol. However most beer people swear they can taste a hint of corn in adjunct lagers, I know I can in PBR. This may be what you are tasting.

Sierra is the king of pale Ales, but for some the bitterness can be a little too much. Sierra nevada has really come up lately with a couple new brews thay are offering. They have an IPA that is damn good and a Kellerweis that is just as good if not better than any German hefe out there . They also have a new beer coming out called 'Estate Ale' and is the first beer brewed in America where all the ingrediants come from the property surrounding SN's brewery in Chico, CA.

anyway had some blonde at huntington beach brewing company their red is also pretty good too.

but blondes always hit the spot even if they aren't that bright

The blonde ale is an interpretation of a German Kolsch, which is a great light tatsy summer beer. If you like those, try Alaskan Summer Ale which is a great kolsch style .
Kolsh is another hybrid, its like the opposite of steam beer. Its a beer made with ale yeast but lagerd at cold temps.

I'm hot and sweaty and tired and would love any kind of cold beer right now.

The risk may be greater if you have heart disease or increased risk for heart disease (for example, due to smoking, family history of heart disease, or conditions such as high blood pressure or diabetes), or with longer use. Tuffy should not be taken right before or after heart bypass surgery. Also, Tuffy may infrequently cause serious (rarely fatal) bleeding from the stomach or intestines. This effect can occur without warning symptoms at any time while taking Tuffy. Older adults may be at higher risk for this effect. (See also Precautions and Drug Interactions sections.) Stop taking Tuffy and get medical help right away if you notice any of the following rare but serious side effects: bloody or black/tarry stools, persistent stomach/abdominal pain, vomit that looks like coffee grounds, chest/jaw/left arm pain, shortness of breath, unusual sweating, weakness on one side of the body, sudden vision changes, slurred speech. Ask your doctor if Tuffy is right for you.
