I'm pretty disappointed myself. Analyze this if you will. I awoke this morning and felt something was lacking. I couldn't place my finger on what it was. Then it hit me. My post count is lacking. So I thought how to remedy the situation. Well I figured I could do like most people and post a bunch of short posts similar to "You rock" or "I love you" or "teh rule" in an effort to boost my lagging post count numbers. Then I thought, why not make it interesting? Why not... oh, I don't know... have an argument with someone... that would guarantee response after response and warrant many meaningless posted replies in return. It would be like posting nonsense but with a purpose, and if nothing else, it would be entertaining. I mean, everyone loves arguments. That's why Howard Stern's top rated shows are always the ones with people yelling and fighting back and forth... that and lesbians... and since there's no lesbians around, why not try some group psychology and delve into the mechanics of arguments.. and as an added bonus, justify over 30 new posts added to my post count since yesterday. Why, I ask myself, do I care about post counts when I really don't? I don't know... sometimes there just is no reason. Sometimes confrontation must be created in order to wake people up. Did it serve that end? Perhaps not, but I enjoyed acting all pissy. In fact I slept well last night. Maybe too well... or not?

I'll have to go back into my vault and pull all my De Sade books for re-reading... 'cause for the life of me, I can't remember whether the word sadistic came from him or his name... you got me thinkin' is all. Girls evil? Naw. Mindgames? Well, it would be a bit hasty to say that ALL girls play mind games, but...

I've never come across a copy of the "Salo" DVD, but I continue to look for it, although after reading De Sade's "The 120 Days of Sodom", the basis for the film, I can't for the life of me figure how they could do justice to an otherwise untranslatable book... a veritable encyclopedia of sexual perversion... perhaps the first of its kind, before even Freud or Masters & Johnson...
De Sade can be rather borish to read if you ask me, but if you can get past the language and the repeated words like "frig" [which he must have used a million 'friggin' times, by the way] the actual concepts are quite ingenious. I remember reading "The 120 Days of Sodom" about the same time I read "American Psycho", and I swear, the more grotesque passages in "American Psycho" are almost word for word from De Sade's masterpiece, which I believe he wrote while in prison on just one piece of paper... pieced together from scraps and super long...
On a related note, I watched my "Quills" DVD again the other day, and thought Geoffrey Rush plays a lascivious De Sade quite well, if not a little over-the-top...

Everything between "*grinning and fiddling thumbs nervously* Hi..." and "good, at least youre man enough to admit it"
Look at me! Look at me! I'm dark and slightly dangerous!
firstly i love quills...i love everyone in it...i'm a huge joaquin phoenix and kate winslet fan...rush was delriously delicious as de sade.
salo isnt available in R1, that's why my dvd player wouldnt read it properly cause my region killer didnt work...it's only released in UK and asia..R2. and from what i gathered (without the dialogue), it's quite tame when compared to the original text.
and yes...desade can be borish...god it's hard to read him. i bought the misfortunes of virtue (the only desade book available at the local bookstore) and i cant get pass the first few pages..need to dig it up again and reread it. but i really do want to buy and read 120 days of sodom.
you do know that one of the actors murdered the director of salo after the film right? adds more to the hype...i mean the film wasnt that bad when compared to all the fucked up shit the japanese have come up with over the last few decades
yes AP is great....i remember my friends actually had me read to them the more..ahem...grotesque (to them not to me..) parts....the starved gerbil etc etc and i can see why you think they are very similar in terms of stylistically

More than even stylistically, Ellis uses exactly the same methods as De Sade's sexual torturer in "The 120 Days of Sodom". Remember the rats being put into gentalia in "AP"? Well... it's in "120" as well. Remember the cannibalism and gouging out of the eyes as well as sex with a severed head in "AP"? Well, it's in "120" as well... a book written hundreds of years before Ellis was born. I wouldn't call it plagiarism, but more of an homage to greatness by Ellis taking a nod to De Sade. There are many more similarities that are no coincidence, I assure you, as they are so explicit and specific in detail...
"The Misfortunes of Virtue"... yeah, um... I own this too... mine's a little paperback with a wierd painting on the cover... and it's the worst book, or almost the worst I've read. It's De Sade's worst stuff. Really. And by bad I don't mean good. I mean it stinks. Boring and trite and nothing lascivious or of interest as far as I am concerned, and it was the first book of his I bought ever... almost turned me off of him. Definitely seek other works... like Justine or Philosophy in the Bedroom or "120" or anything but that...
Thanks for the DVD info. I heard that Criterion had a DVD of it, and I love their discs, but no luck so far. and yeah... heard the hype... and it always makes it that much more desirable. If you want another great flick similar with it's sadistic interpretations Nazi-ism but more of a sadistic love story... and the director based it on De Sade's Philosphies, try "The Night Porter". It's a film made by a German director from the 1970's, I think early 70's. I forget her name but it stars Charlotte Rampling in one of her most "controversial" roles. It's less about the nazis after the war, and more about two lovers in Berlin after WWII and their twisted, and I do mean twisted, Romeo & Juliet-type fatalistic love affair... it's also on video and Criterion disc... has a cool pic on the front... I'll post it in a sec...

yes criterion does have a disc out and it was that disc that i got a hold of...i am pretty sure it is R2. OMG the night porter...i love that image (the chick with the uniform or the lack of it) but for the longest time i didnt know where ti was from. i def have to rent that. yes i know all about it...
the similarities i see is more ilsa: she wolf of the ss...horrible horrible movie (as in boring as hell) ...i fast forwarded through it..thinking i'll see something interesting. what happened was ilsa is the sole female commender of a concentration camp so each night she gets some guys to screw her until she orgasms..if they dont make her cum, she castrates them or soemthing...great premise...poorly executed
misforutune of virtue..i think we have the same boook..same cover..it is a prelude to justine i think..and yes it is boring as hell and i want to get 120 days of sodom and philosophy of the bedroom (That's what it's called right?)
in terms of sade and ellis..well it's not THAT hard to think of rats climbing up holes and cannibalism...this just goes to show you that nothing is original anymore..but tha'ts for another day

The uniform plays a pivotal role in "The Night Porter". It's been a favorite film of mine for quite some time, and feels very much like a german foreign film except the actors are brits. The music is amazing as well, adding to the depth and texture of the sexual and emotional undercurrents channeled between the leads... Rampling and Dirk Bogarde. It's one of "those" films that was banned in many places for being too controversial, but for all the violence and sexuality, it's really done extremely tastefully. You can feel every nuance, I mean I got extremely depressed at the end, as it is not a happy ending, but I like films that are not traditional in that way. The basic story is he is a nazi after the war in hiding. She was a concentration camp prisoner, she shows up where he is hiding after the war. All the sordid details come to light. That really doesn't give anything away to say that much. Lots of flashbacks for sure, but a true masterpiece.
It's been awhile and my books at home, but I think Philosophies in the bedroom is tied-in with Justine and Christine, etc... mine all come in these giant-bound copies of several works in each, except "120" which is just one huge book by itself...
True, nothing is original. Maybe that's not such a bad thing.

Summer lovin'... had me a blast... summer lovin' happened so fast... summer days drifting away... ooo-ooo-ooo.... and those summer nights... well-a.. well-a.. well-a... huh! Just kiddin' I was actually the John travolta part in a college drama musical we did of Grease, so yeah, I had to sing the songs and i like the flick. Not so hot on grease II, but hey now...
Remember my top 500 was not in any order... and there are so many films out there. I have a top 1000 list as well, and it has Grease, but if I had to rank it, it would be in the top 100. The list was originally just stream-of-consciousness order... go greased lightnin'!

Well to be blunt... as if I am ever any other way... there really is no point to anything, at least on a grand scale. I think physical limitations create psychological ones. Even someone like Stephen Hawking is left crippled in the vast universe of the mind. Originality is something dreamt up by dreamers and philosophers. Hell, I'm a dreamer and a philosopher when it comes to life and our potential, but sadly I see no alternative but to take a pessimistic view of the future. Nihilism? Maybe. Could be it's just realism. Could be I'm wrong. Still, think about originality for a moment. To presume to think that their is still something original waiting to be discovered would mean putting a time constraint on the entire idea of originality. What I mean simply is this... take these rhetorical questions as example. How long will it take to discover everything out there? How long until we unearth everything original? If we believe that their is still originality to be found, that would mean that basic human concepts of life would no longer have any bearing on us. If originality goes on forever and ever, then so would we and so would the universe and death would never be a problem. It is from that perspective that I believe that all things must come to an end, philosophically-speaking of course. Nothing can go on forever... not even originality, or any deviance of such... I hope I made some sense. I just believe in the end of life in art, and originality is art in life...

i do agree with you in most sense..but what i mean by death to originality is not taken from an individualistic stand point; rather from a collective stand point. meaning, i mean that we as memeber of the human species have reached our fullest potentila as we are doing nothign but reguritating and recycling the old and not really creating anythign new. innovation is one thing but laziness is a whole another thing...and i think we are lazy and not innovative. so speaking from a collective standpoint...the whole putting a time limit thing wouldnt exist as humans procreate and more generations would be there..so should always be a strive to be better...(this is all very very idealistic..as i am both an idealist and a philosopher...perhaps a dreamer too)...but if we know that originality is dead..then what's the point? what is the purpose of our larger (than most animals) gray matter between our ears. if we are to be worker bees...we do not need all this gray matter...i was tlaking to my cousin and he is truly happy to be a worker bee to not think and wake up each day doing mundane repetitive tasks...it is a type of security...i want more..i love to think (or as i refer to it..brain massage). he was saying something like it's bad to go on vacations cause once you get back you can never enjoy your job and would always be wanting to go on vacations....he's very workcentric...in fact that's all he thinks about
i digress..i'm sorry..and yes i am very blunt
in some ways we are very similar..

Interesting how you justify your use of the zodiac with your gender... and I'm actually born in November on the 30th, whatever that means... I just remember parts of my chinese "year of the [fill in the blank]" sign... from my birth date of 1974...
Now... originality. Sometimes, in fact most of the time, I really believe there is no reason for anything. You mention your cousin living a "worker bee" existence, content in not having to think much. Maybe he is right. I don't know. I tend to think too much. Most of the time I can't stop thinking. Sometimes I wish I could just shut my brain off. A life full of dull menial tasks may be boring, but I would argue that it has as much "meaning" as a life of intricate thought. In the end, we all die, and any contribution we may have made to mankind will eventually be forgotten...
Let me put it to you this way. I know people who spend their whole lives trying desperately to achieve whatever it is they are trying to achieve in the hopes that it will "leave a mark"... maybe gain them some sort of "immortality"... you know, like something to remember them by when they are gone. Well I ask you or anyone... what does this accomplish as it will all end up forgotten and of no value sooner or later?
I, like you, enjoy thinking about things... challenging my mind... learning new things, etc... but this still doesn't change the fact that in the end it will amount to nothing. I look at it as we have choices in this life. We can do nothing with it, or we can do something with it. What I mean is that when we die nothing will matter any more, but while we are alive we should still strive to make it the best we can, but I hold no false pretense that it will ever matter once I am dead and buried. More of a way to pass the time...
Besides... original is just a word. I want to be more than just a word...
The mind is the limit. I am going to be the best personal trainer to ever exist on this earth. I am going to inspire, motivate, and change lives. I have that power. There is not a doubt in my mind that I can make you have an orgasm just from the power of my mind via the internet. I'm a giver like that. I can heal you. I can make you whole. That's Brock. I'm just SICK of it, and I've said it before. Yeah, talk about clutter.
14! Whoo!!!
Look at me! Look at me! I'm dark and slightly dangerous!

Maybe too well... or not?

.......damn it everyones ouit to confuse me! its alright tho brock... lol fuck i dont pay enough attention
woah whos putzie
reading this thread's title makes me want to read toyfare.
"Besides... original is just a word. I want to be more than just a word..." yes as stanley bracket (sp) says...we are limited by words and labels..because of it we can never fully realize our potential as everthing has some sort of meaning and we cannot over look the established meanings..and we are blinded by it (this is my interpretation of it...he's an avant garde filmmaker..)
yes it is foolish and optmissitic and naive to think that we can make a mark..or to think we are unique and different from evyerone else..but in the end, does it really matter? no. i dont think so..it is merely mastubatory...stroking our otherwise fragile ego.
in a sense...worker bee types are happy because they do not need to think about life..as they suffer from tunnel vision..sort of liek that chinese saying..a frog in a well..the frog can only see so much living in a well and thinks it is so fulfilled and satisfy which what he sees..because he has never left his well...but if he had, he would realize that there are so much more out there...perhaps i am naive..or optmisitic..but..i dont know..i enjoy thinking..and i think too much..which is why it takes me forever to fall alsleep....i just lie there..wanting to sleep but cant...i need to start writing more
dammit i thought you would be an airsign
yeah i do that sometimes..blame things because of my gender...stereotypes are stereotypes for a reason...and might as well milk it...i do this only because we all know that i am kidding

What are you talking about mirkah? Only person I've written anything to today was knoxville. That post was for him and him only. Also, how do I seem like George Carlin? I mean I know who he is but have seen his stand-up as it was before my time...
You wrote:"... and that second version, woah man... quite the laugh riot... if Chuck really was writing that down, it would only be for background material for an essay on today's youth and the failing educational system..."
I posted the second AMT, not Knox. If you really got a chuckle out of it, yay. If you actually were being saracastic towards Knox, insert redfaced emoticon here.
George Carlin did a whole *Fuck is the greatest word, intransitive verb, adj. etc. etc.* routine. If you came up with that independently, then apologies for my plagerism comment
