It's set to hit theaters December 7th. Just another item on the militant atheist agenda!

I've taken a look at the militant atheist agena, and there's some pretty fun stuff in store for this country. The giant robot battles in 2017 are going to kick so much ass.

How can this movie destroy America again if it hasn't even premiered yet?
Is it opening on the same day as Pearl Harbour got anything to do with it?
You ever see that movie the Philadephia Experiment where they go back in time on that army boat and the dudes are like fused into the hull and whatnot! it was awesome!

Well, that's the just the proposed agenda. If the Christian right raises enough money to build some kind of giant fighting chuchbot we might have to rush things. But I doubt they even know where to get giant fighting robot actuators, let alone the engineers to install them properly.

What do you think that whole "Star Wars" program from the 80's was supposed to be all about? They were gearing up for an attack on the atheist lunar domes, which, again, will totally rock.

They need to watch out though because I heard the militant agnostics are really good friends with Bruce Willis and he owns like sixteen dogs that were trained by Sang Yo'Fang the chinese dog-training Werewolf lord.

I might pay to go see this.

Quote:
Nicole Kidman, a Catholic, has defended her decision to star in the film, saying that "the Catholic Church is part of my essence. I wouldn't be able to do this film if I thought it were at all anti-Catholic".

That sounds a bit odd.

She can't be Catholic. Her Catholicism was just a part of her body-thetan implant, which was removed after donating a few grand to the Church of Scientology.

You should read about the guy who advised that dumbass Reagan on Star Wars, Edward Teller, who may have been the inspiration for Dr. Strangelove? I just read a little about him in Demon-Haunted World by Carl Sagan. Apparently he advocated the use of thermonuclear weapons to build canals and blow up mountains, and suggested we detonate one on the moon and on the far side of the sun to study their compositions. So a guy is using fantasy fiction to promote an atheist agenda? Is that supposed to be intentionally ironic?

Much like the Bible, it seems that hardcore Christians take fantasy far too seriously. I particularly love how they frame atheism as if it were some sort of drug. They use similar phrasing when children's movies have a character who smokes or promotes a "racist" agenda.

This is why I don't have kids. They're not allowed to get hurt, make mistakes, or ask questions anymore. Kids need to get the crap beaten out of them while they're still young enough to heal, to fuck things up while they're still just playing with toys, and to ask questions before their minds are brainwashed into subservient mush.

Nah, he has a kid I think.

Carlin's a bit of a sad case anymore. He's warped from being a comedian into the thing he hates the most: a preacher. I love the guy's work and it was hard for me to accept this, but if you watch "Life Is Worth Losing" it's really hard to call that comedy. He's preaching for the majority of it, and very few people are laughing.

I will probably be having a kid(s) in the next two years and I intend to mold them into questioners and hopefully eternally curious. I also hope they have better rhythm than their parents.

My wife told me I better not get our kids bones broken, I told her no promises. (Not that I'd break them, but activities that lead to broken bones like off-road biking!!)

That was some scary sad and pathetic shite. People are so afraid of sexual innuendo, do they never have sex ever in their lives. How could anyone be offended by Transformers? It was SO unrealistic, it would've been hard to watch if it wasn't so visually stunning and fun. (Of course I may be a little biased, Megan Fox is the wallpaper on my home computer now.)

I hope we do find evidence of alien life, intelligent or not. I'd love to see those crazy ass fundamentalist wrap their heads around that, with their warped sense of science.

If we find ONE microbe on Mars, that completely disproves biblical creation, provided of course we didn't bring it there.

Also:

1. The Earth is not 6010 years old. It is older than that.

2. There's no "firmament" above the earth which keeps the "waters of heaven" where they are.

3. The earth revolves around the sun, not the other way around like in the Bible.

4. There are no giants, dragons, or unicorns, all of which appear in the Bible.

The truth is these are not children's books.

and they are really good actually.

there is no denying his atheist views could be sensed in the pages....... and my question is whats wrong with that?

other books written from jewish, Christian, catholic, and exct..... all do the same thing. A writer's personal feelings about life is going to eventually show in his/her work.

I have a bigger problem with a writer like dan brown, who inserts anti religious ideas at the very end of a not so special typical mystery novel not cause its his view point but just for a selling point.

now thats the kind of scum the Christians should be bashing. Leave idealistic genuine talented writers alone.

And if a fantasy fiction novel is it all it takes to ween your perfect angel children off your own personal religion then maybe you should focus on making your belief structure stronger and allow it to evolve and adapt into something a current generation can actually tolerate and accept.

were a different culture and the carrot on the stick method of recruiting is going to fail in a society driven by instant gratification.

Why havnt religious groups figured out yet that "boycotting" something just makes it sell better? And why do they believe that if they were to successfully end the playing of this particular movie, that another movie, or video game, or book will not be released? They are just barking at what they see, but aren't out to stop anything. No one complained about Final Fantasy 10, among a whole mess of other fictional stories that mean fuck-all.

I'm tired of God altogether, I guess. Sometimes. I go to the science essay section in a bookstore, and there are books about God. Fuck.

Yes, he should make more jokes about blow jobs like DANE COOK!
It's interesting if you read about Lenny Bruce's obscenity trials, how the most "offensive" part wasn't so much the vulgarity, but the parts about the church. Bruce, who Carlin knew, never really considered himself a comedian, but more like a social commentator. The problem is now that "cocksucker" really isn't all that big of a deal, you get comics like Dane Cook and Sarah Silverman whose entire schtick is just racial humor and sex jokes. It's a fine line to walk: being intelligent and a "comic". Jon Stewart, Patton Oswald, and Lewis Black (to name a few) do it extremely well. The problem is that 99% of comics are retards that just want you to laugh at how retarded they are... which just usually makes me feel sad for them.

I big problem with being a comic is how hard it becomes when you get popular

if you listen to the newest george carlin cds you can get a sense of truth to this qoute from one time king of stand up Steve Martin:

When asked the question of why did he stop doing standup comedy by some media figure during an interview steve replied with something along these lines.

"After My Success with CD and tour sales i felt that my crowds were coming to my shows prepared to laugh at anything i say just out of expectation and fan loyalty. When i felt this my writing and execution suffered"

the second i read this quoute i notice this in alot of popular comics acts..... especially in dane cook, Eddie Izzard, George Carlin, and even robin williams.

Maybe becoming a stand up comic pop star is a kiss of death.

Social commentary is one thing. Preaching is another. The former details the status of society and lets the audience figure out that it's stupid. The former asks good questions and lets the audience squirm while they look for uncomfortable answer. The latter makes assertions, puts stakes in the ground, and makes little appeal to the intellect.

It's showing vs. telling, and applies to pretty much any form of communication. Carlin's routine has slipped into the latter with his most recent material. Not completely, mind you, but definitely the quality has suffered. Too often he sounds like a bitter old man rather than an insightful observer.

The PR machine is rolling.

I have seen tons of action packed commercials. and posters everywhere!

and the book stores have taken a "harry potter" approach with large table displays at the front of the stores.

Once the mass media finds out that this fantasy fiction novel/movie is loosely based around a theme of "god/religion is the enemy"

seriously i could go into more detail but i dont want to ruin it, but the books are awesome!

Armored polar bears kick ass!

No one ever answered my "alternate universe" question.

I probably will end up both reading and seeing this, as I have a soft spot in my heart for really good YA fantasy (like Harry Potter and A Series of Unfortunate Events).

Anyways, I remember seeing more anti-Dogma stuff than this film is getting. Dogma wasn't really anti-religious in any way though. I have no plans on seeing this film just beause it looks boring, like 95% of everything else Hollywood churns out. They love the controversy because it gets the film attention it otherwise wouldn't have received. Those Christian publications don't stop people from seeing the movie that would have, they just make people bitch about it who otherwise would have kept their mouth shut.
Yeah you're a Narnia person or a His Dark Materials one.
I'm both, but if one calls to me more it would have to be His Dark Materials. I Loved them! I read them as a fifth grader, and found them to be very inlightening. I was sort of shocked about the whole god part in the end, but I decided I liked it. The book isn't really anti-God, it's anti-organized religion, and those should be two separate things.

I'll be seeing this. The books are right up there with Harry Potter and for me, that's saying a lot!:biglaugh:
