I like SCAD but it's really expensive. I live in SC but I've accepted that I'll most likely have to go out of state (I don't even know of any colleges in SC that have these as majors), so that doesn't bother me. If you know any please mention them.

I'm considering journalism and writing (creative or normal, some colleges offer a class just titled writing, hmmmm).

Thanks a lot.

(I mean it but hate how if you ever type thanks a lot online it seems instantly sarcastic)

If you really want to see how you'd fare with the big dogs, USC or UCLA are the places to go, but that's gonna cost you a LOT of money. There are plenty of good writing programs around the country at smaller places, which is good because you'll get more attention from your teachers and hone your craft. I went to Wyoming, and William Missouri Downs, the playwright in residence there, is an amazing teacher.

So, you know, choose little attention and great networking opportunities, or maximum attention and huge school debts and uncertain job prospects.

you did go to UW? i knew you lived here, but I didn't know you went to school here. I wonder if he is still there. I have a lot of friends doing Musical Theatre majors down there....would he have anything to do with that?

I just graduated from UW and had Downs for Intor. to Lit. and it was by far my favorite class the whole time I was in school here in Laramie.

Heh. Sorry, Levi. Couldn't resist that.

I have a lot of friends in Musical Theatre, too...

Ooh. Gaga's playing Pittsburgh like tonight or something. You know, btw.

Gaga had a donut in my friend's donut shop the other day here in San Francisco. She's apparently quite nice and normal out of character.

Levi: Yeah Bill Downs is still in the theatre system, which of course has only grown more awesome since my departure. Chances are your friend has had classes with him. I know one of his students recently wrote a musical that won some national awards at the collegiate level.

And hey, look, another Wyomingianite!

i bet he was the playwright who wrote the sequel to the Laramie Project. It was written one or two years ago, and it's about the state of Laramie with gay affairs ten years after the fact of Matthew Shepard. It debuted on campus. That's sort of cool.

I was there when Kaufman came through to interview a bunch of us about the Shepard killing. That was possibly the weirdest small-town moment of my life, that murder and the aftermath, and how it kind of exposed a lot of people I knew as viciously homophobic. I have friends who made it into the movie version of the play, along with Bill's wife and some others.

Anyhoo, Kaufman did the sequel as well, but there was a large group of people who worked on it.

Ya thats the main problem, all the colleges that offer dramatic writing are usually very nice art schools so by defult they're very exspensive. They're are a couple nice colleges around for normal writing or journalism (in my city is the #1 rated liberal arts college in the south but it's a girls college honestly it's like laughing in my face).

But I'll check out these colleges, thanks guys.

Doesn't UT have a pretty good screenwriting program? I think Robert Rodriguez and Richard Linklater went there. I forget who all went there. Wes Andersen, that's a good one.
