I live in BF Wisconsin where there is not a lot going on as far as the literary community goes. I recently finished a short story collection that I am trying to get published. I've had a few agents look at it and say that it isn't "mainstream" enough for them to handle. I've got it sent out to a few publishers (Soft Skull, Manic D) that will accept unsoclicited manuscripts. I was wondering if anybody here knew of any others I could check out? It would be a great help!! Thanks

1. Try picking up the latest Writer's Digest, it has a lot of info, published every year.

2. Maybe get an agent first? (see above)

3. Look at the books/short story collections that you have that are similar to what you write, or is a writer/house that you respect, and target them.

Good luck.

Also, most short story collections I have were published in magazines first. If the above 1-3 don't work, try getting them published FIRST in a mag, then try to get a collection out.

Last resort: self publish (ie., http://www.lulu.com)
