A Girly Thread For Girly Things
my girlfriend has this stuff. it really does smell like it should be eaten. what's with girls products having that i-should-eat-you smell about them?
I don't know but I don't like it. I have some leg tanner that smells like toasted coconut and I literally walked around for an entire day with my mouth watering and no idea why.
hahahaha. this is a hilarious image.
seriously though. why? why do they do it? there's got to be some kind of motive for this.
i'm sure some bright sparks had an idea something along the lines of:
"ok, so girls want to be attractive to guys, right?"
"right"
"and what do guys like?"
"um... beer?"
"yeah.. but girls won't go for that"
"ok.. uhh.. um.. food!"
"that's it! we'll make our women smell like food!"
i wish i could be a girl again lol
I know I'm about two years late, but I bought some red FitFlops and love them! Not sure if they are toning me or helping me lose weight but they're so comfortable.

Any tips on getting rid of stretch marks and extra skin after one has lost a lot of weight? Some doctors are telling me that surgery is really the only option for my case since I used to be so fat and lost it so quick.
I know there has to be another way though.
This is a pretty girly question right?
i often wonder about those kind of things, like those sneakers with the weird soles that are supposed to tone you up. i suspect a lot of women are walking around looking like they have boats on their feet for little payoff. those flip flop ones aren't so ridiculous looking though.
My mother in law has some of them, the sneakers. She doesn't need them to have everyone notice her in the room.

I don't see what the problem is, they look cool, they're comfortable and more durable than normal flip flops. I mainly got them because they're shaped like my insoles (can't wear flat shoes).
so she sticks out already .. but for good or bad reasons?
I can't criticise her too much, she likes me a lot and we get along nicely, but she tends to be all over the place at times. The Alexes could testify about it. I think they had a good time at her place.
These are the shoes she has, more or less.

did you look at the rest of this thread? This is not what this thread is about.

yeah i can't imagine a day when i'd ever let something that looked like that on my feet. i think i'll stick to running up and down stairs.
levi i'm listening to Blue Monday and those slaps are synching perfectly with the drum beats!

hahaha awesome. umbrage loves her Blue Monday.

Maybe I did something wrong, but I recommend NOT getting a Sally Henson Nail Art Pen for those of you who may be contemplating it. It tends to pool into little dots rather than staying where you've marked. Also, when I used nail polish remover on it (because my nails looked like little ladybugs), it left my nails with a slightly blackish tint that did not look good at all.
On the girly side...
I painted my nails red (mostly to cover up the ugly black stuff) for the first time in a loooong time. I love red nails against pale skin.

that sucks! i saw those pens advertised and wondered if they were any good.
red polish is always impossible for me to do myself, for some reason. (on my hands anyway) i always make the biggest mess of my fingers - which is really a shame because i like having red nails. the girl at the manicure place i go to every so often told me that darker colours take longer to dry.. maybe i'm just impatient, i don't know
I have the same affliction. I end up with red all over my cuticles and fingers and probably appear to have just eaten a raw steak with my bare hands.
But I just bought these and I am drowning in a sea of girly happiness.
Essie makes nail pens, too. I've never used them but I'm partial to their polish.

In other news, what daytime eye creams do you all use? I want one that's more for moisture and less for things like wrinkles or age.
There is hope, but not for us.
yeah you really don't want to use a too heavy eye cream at your age, jane. it can have an adverse affect and you get those little white dots known as millia, because your skin can't handle the extra moisture. then you'd have to get them lasered off or something. eek.
in other news i have to find shoes to go with a dress i'm wearing to my brother in laws wedding, and its proving difficult. why are most shoes so ugly? do you guys shop for shoes online or in stores or what?

Laura Mercier makes a good day cream that is super light. Costs an assload though. I buy $3 eye cream with vitamin E and it works just as well as my Mercier cream does.
I use a vitamin E eye cream from Body Shop right now but it's not really moisturizing enough. That'll probably be less of a problem going into the summer. Or maybe I should just switch to a straight up vitamin E oil.
There is hope, but not for us.
I find the Body Shops lotions to be ineffective. They seem to sit on the surface of my skin instead of getting down in there.

i sing this to my little sister
“if you want to be a bird,” you said once, “with colorful plumage and buoyant trills, you must also be ready for hollow bones."
I used to love the Arisocats when I was little. How old is your sister?
how is it possible that i went to nordstrom and didn't find one single pair of shoes that i liked, not even really expensive ones? i think i need to become a shoe designer.
step-sister. she's seven. it's funny being an older sister in adulthood.
“if you want to be a bird,” you said once, “with colorful plumage and buoyant trills, you must also be ready for hollow bones."
finally found some shoes to wear to the wedding

They are nice. I am such a klutz, could never wear such high heels.
I bought sparkly gold nail varnish because I saw it in a fashion shoot and thought it looked cool (famous last words, right?). Painted my toes but I think the colour makes me look like I've got jaundice? Disappointing!

And to top it off, I told my sister I wasn't sure about my orange nail varnish, and she didn't only agree, but told me my fingernails look radioactive.

Back to mint green methinks.

PS I REALLY WANT THIS WATCH I SAW IN ELLE!

I like the orange, Hattie.
The gold is kinda bad though.. us pale english types can't really wear gold
I'm all about orange polish in the summer. Winter is plum.
i have an orangey colour i like to use in summer too.. but lilac purple is my go-to summer colour. i have a nice dark turquoise green that i also like. Though most of the time i just keep clear polish on, because its not so obvious when it chips!
I got a pedicure the other day. Why do people get so weird about hearing a guy getting a pedi? They are awesome and I think girls are just jealous cause I found your secret. Oh and they did a hot stone massage on my legs and feet as part of it too. My toe nails are black cause I'm a rock star..lol

hahaha hey look it's another guy who paints his nails!
I just gave myself a mini pedi today. I hate going to get pedicures and manicures though. They always hurt my hands or feet and I never like the way they come out.
Girly moment: I do love this soft pink on my toes. I'd share a pic but i hate my feet.
that watch is sooo in. I want a manlier version.

dude, that's awesome. my only problem with guys getting pedicures is when some really old guy comes in and they start shaving all the dead skin off his feet with one of those file things, and it all piles up on the floor. eeew. they need to put those guys in a special room or something
i'm getting my haircut tomorrow. i haven't had it cut since february
I know! I am getting my ass over to Selfridges this week because I deserve a treat!
Anyway, don't say I don't ever give you anything...

Lol that was me the first time I had a pedicure. She was shucking my foot with this foot shucking razor thing for like 15-20 minutes..lol I tipped her pretty good though for having to go through that..

Hahaha!Oh Zach.
Thanks kit. I guess it is a French manicure. I haven't done my nails like that in such a long time but they are really growing on me. They look a lot nicer then the day I did them. I may be turning girly!
haha
BUMP
Are there any women's sneakers/casual shoes that don't look like corrective footwear or clown shoes? (Or some combination of the two) I want something that's going to be comfortable to walk around in when we go to CA for a couple of weeks in January. Preferably in leather/suede - just not canvas.
What do you all wear for that sort of thing?
New Balance has some nice sneakers but hmm...really i guess you just have to find the right fit for your foot. And if you're worried about looking strange for the shoes you're gonna be wearing in California don't everyone here wears some funky ass looking shoes (Crocs)(UGGS)

But I've heard they're comfortable so yeah.
oh god those are my two most hated types of shoes ever! I think I found some puma ones that aren't too bad. I just hate shopping for sneakers, I guess I'm picky.
still no pictures of cult girls in their pajamas, painting each others toenails and having pillowfights, huh?
Guess not
yeah i hate both of those shoes too. I would definitely go with New Balance, Pumas, and some Adidas are very light weight and perfect for walking around a lot. I haven't been able to shop for a new pair of shoes in a long time but here's what I'd buy if I had the money.

They aren't the cutest style of shoe but they have different combos of colors to choose from but overall they are super comfortable. Not to mention they have my name on them

These are alright too.
I don't care much for the color but New Balance has really light airy shoes
Feels like walking on clouds so your feet hardly get tired.

usually i prefer everything to be non-scented but some scents are better than others. i detest anything with fake-fruit scent, like all of those bodywashes and moisturisers that smell like air freshener. ergh. at least the cocoa butter/coconut/shea butter/avocado type things are at least somewhat derived from natural scents. anything too perfumey gives me a headache.
