It is also my half birthday.

1 1/2 more years until I'm out of my teens. I am counting the days over here.

I'm in a completely different pair of shoes. 9 days until I turn 20 and I'm dreading it. I'm going to miss being a teenager. Sad

Sorry for the double posting, but I just realized what the topic was. What's the problem with 4/20? So some people smoke a little weed, no big deal. Perhaps you disagree with their habits, but I wouldn't call it stupid.

no problem with smoking weed. big problem with jizzing all over yourself when april 20th roles around, like its an excuse to smoke pot, when you do it all the time anyway.
the phrase 4/20 is fucking stupid. smoking pot, on the other hand, i have no quams with.

A girl named Kelly Fleming died on April 20th. She was in the library at Columbine High School.

She wasn't a real popular kid; the kind of shy, introverted type you usually find involved in the arts. And she was. Kelly was a writer. Her friends said that she always wrote stories that took you through a certain degree of sadness, before you realized the happiness and joy at the end.

Kelly had it kind of hard; anyone who had to move around a lot as a kid would understand what it was like for her, as her father's job forced their family to regularly relocate. She never felt settled, never felt... like maybe she had a constant place with contant things and constant friends.

One of her friends was interviewed soon after the shooting. Kelly was working on her autobiography, a story about her life, and moving and moving and moving. It's history began the moment her Mom's water broke.

When she was shot, she'd gotten up to age six.

Her friend, the one they interviewed, said that Kelly always talked about having ONE big goal. ONE big thing, that she wanted to do with her writing. Not money. Not fame. She was a good kid with a good heart who didn't care about that stuff. She'd had it hard, and she knew it.

All Kelly wanted, she said, was just to know that she had a book up there, in stores, on sale. And that maybe someday some other kid who had it hard would find her book, and it would give them the comfort she never had. She wanted to help others.

And everytime I sit down to write (and especially when I don't, and I get hit with guilt pangs all over), I try to remember her. That I'm here and she's not. And that's not fucking fair. Because she sould be.

She should have been one of the greatest writers of our generation.

She just never got a chance.

You're missed, Kelly. I think of you all the time. And I pray you're well.

Diary of Anne Frank, by Anne Frank

Zlata's Story, by Zlata Filopovic

Please Don't Kill the Freshman, by Zoe Trope (If I wasn't cut in the final mss. edit, I might be a little "walk-on" character in this one)

All three books, all written by incredible teenagers who've seen incredible hardships and managed to accomplish incredible things. Talent and ability know no boundries, and that includes age. In fact, if your profile isn't lying, Zoe and you are about the same age.

And she's amazing. People ask me whom I want to be when I grow up (a funny question being 26, but one I doubt I'll outgrow), and I say Zoe. There is no one in the world like her, and her work is world's more mature than the mere number of years she's been here.

So don't be so quick to judge, why don't you? Especially since you're talking about someone who's no longer here that I happen to still care very deeply about.

No big deal, Wes. I think it's an American thing.

4/20 (April 20th) is supposedly "stoners new year." It's just a big fake stoner holliday.

will, i'm so glad you chose to memorialize someone OTHER than that "she said yes" martyr girl. ugh i'm so sick of ppl focusing so much on her b/c of her religion.

i never knew about that girl kelly. glad you brought it to my attention.

i can't remember her name right now but the story i've heard is that she was hiding under a table in the library and eric harris leaned under the table and said, "do you believe in god?" and she said, "yes." and he said "why?" and shot her. so now she's this big christian martyr according to some people. can't remember her name for the life of me tho. i could google it, but then again, so could you.

If you read, "No Easy Answers," the new book about what happened at Columbine (endorsed by Michael Moore), there are several, several police reports that Cassie DIDN'T say yes, and that it was another kid. Heavy reading, but worth it.

And Kitty, Kelly was a writer and we'll never get to read her. That alone fucking breaks my heart. My first book will be dedicated to her for sure. Because I want people to remember names as well as numbers. People, not just statistics.
