It can be a "you know who" appreciation thread.

i don't really understand what kind of reply this post needs, so this could very well be one of those second-post-thread-jacks but, the fuck!?

Nobody writes cursive anymore...I actually don't like cursive, I like print, but I also like things no one else likes, and nobody likes cursive anymore...it's a tough one, I don't know how to address this...

I love cursive. I write in cursive. I think people who CAN'T write in cursive have something wrong with them. Those who WON'T are okay, if a little silly, but I love the way nice cursive looks.

I got hit on at the bank the other day due to the quality of my cursive.

Her name was Fiorella.

I get many compliments from women about my handwriting, so I'm disinclined to change my ways any time soon.

When I was like, 10, I read that criminals are often profiled based on their handwriting, but block letters couldn't be traces. I never wrote in cursive again. Just in case...

There used to be a very good reason for it - handwritten correspondence. In the age before the personal computer, most people didn't have daily access to a typewriter unless it was a part of their profession--secretaries, journalists. Anyone else who wanted to communicate in writing was writing by hand. And if you slide back a little further in time, to the 19th century and the LolCats of Yore, people wrote letters instead of making phone calls, because they didn't have telephones. All the more reason to have decent penmanship. Your handwritten correspondence was an intimate form of communication across great distances, and the only one you had.

Hand printing in a child's single block letters works well enough for a grocery list, but try writing a six-page letter that way - your hand will cramp. Plus, you'll likely have unevenness creep into the lettering style. In contrast, a smooth cursive hand is fluid and relaxed, elegant. It's easier on the hand and the eye, when you're practiced.

These days, of course, kids hack at computer keyboards when they're barely out of their cribs. The personal computer has become indispensable regardless of your career choice, in a way the typewriter just never was. So, not being particularly obsessed with calligraphy for its own sake, I see the decline in penmanship and the loss of nice cursive handwriting as sad on the grounds that we've lost something more than a pretty bit of scrawl here and there; rather, we've lost handwritten correspondence as an elegant medium for exchanging our concerns and ideas.

If you look at history, we know the intimate thoughts of notable figures from so many previous generations through well-preserved handwritten letters, as well as diaries. For example, president John Adams wrote terrific letters to his wife Abigail--and she to him--whenever they spent much time apart. In addition to the value of those letters as preserved physical artifacts of our history, they convey a balance of serious thought and kind personal feelings that e-mail almost never conveys. We have the technology to say more things to more people with terrific ease and instantaneous delivery, an advancement that outstrips the invention of the printing press - and we use that great miracle to say less and less.

Sorry, I waxed all serious and totally neglected to post this so not-funny Victorian lolCat.  After this, you can commence with the funny again.
